Hyperbole much? The system works fine. It's a bit... strict, but it works. That's on you. ALWAYS kill the witness, too. This one got me on one of the raid missions. I won't go into specifics, but I lingered at the raid site too long looting, and suddenly, I was like Butch without Sundance, holed up in a cabin with nowhere to go. That's a button layout issue, and R* is to blame. It was idiotic to have the "interact" toggle (L2 on PS4) be the same as the aim button. Look, I don't ride my horse unarmed; O'Driscolls are constantly riding out to ambush you. I've had at least half a dozen instances of trying to talk to someone that ended up becoming a fight because I pulled a gun unintentionally. Once I'm in a town, I always manually switch over to bare hands to avoid this, but only a fool rides through the wilderness unarmed. For God's sake, there's out there roaming in the woods. Omnipotence must be a heavy burden, bro. BOOOOOOOOOOOORING! Ol' double barrel shotty to the dome is much more satisfying. That's how I handled the drunken Frontiersman in Valentine. They're still scraping his brain matter off the ceiling of the bar.3 points

Thank you lot for some answers, I managed to save up some more money in the end and bought myself a new Arabian. The struggle there was real as I took some bounty hunting trips and finally managed to save up 950$ only to realize when I got back to the stable that the sale was over and the price had gone up to 1050$ instead. Had to run around like crazy a bit more to save up some more money but got there in the end, now I've done as BropolloCreed79 suggested and save each time I'm basically afraid I'll lose my horse. But yeah I mean I don't think I've ever felt such frustration and sadness in losing something in a game as when I realised I had lost that horse.2 points

In my experience, you'll actually want to press R2 twice after filling up the meter. Lightly hold R2 to fill up the meter, then press and release R2 to draw your weapon and bring up dead eye, and then aim and press R2 again to fire. I practiced how to duel on the mission The Noblest of Men and a Woman. You'll get into a couple duels and if you die, just restart the checkpoint and it should restart right when the duel starts2 points

I'd be lying if I said I didn't snicker every time I have Arthur take a bath. I always opt for "the help", and her hand continually dips into the water near his crotch and lingers. And Arthur usually sighs contentedly when she does. That's close enough for me.2 points

This is why I always create a backup save before starting a new mission. It's saved my horse three times now. With some missions, you can't save during, so I try to do it before I start off on anything new, even if I'm in the middle of nowhere.2 points

It's weird, but although I still get the occasional accidental issue as noted above, I've been managing to get away with a lot of killing lately, plus looting, with no witnesses at all - right in town. There was no one obviously around, it was dusk, but two guys started a fight, they drew, they got shot to death. Not even an investigation. It really does seem to play differently to what other people are reporting. Might it have something to do with honor level? Or location? Or just pure luck?1 point

I genuinely think it will be patched and sooner rather than later we just have to keep on at them1 point

Take a breath and relax cowboy. First I am coming from the PC world. Second I have a 2000 dollars LG OLED bought this year, and after that I recently bought a PS4 Pro because although I know from previous experiences that consoles normally moves games like sh*t, I was attracted by some of the PS4 games that I really wanted to play. One clarification, Uncharted 4 looks great... while moving slowly or while not movin. When playing, 80% of the game, moves like sh*t. There you have my measure bar, you don’t like it, no problem. You don’t respect my opinion, then go **** yourself.1 point

It's not gonna reel in if it's fighting you. As soon as you hook it, it fights you, so you don't reel just yet, you move left stick left/ right to fight back and tire it out. Once it tires out and the controller stops vibrating (assuming you haven't turned off vibrate), then you start reeling in. Usually, it starts fighting again at least once before you get it in, so you have to stop reeling and tire it out again. Repeat until you have your fish.1 point

I saved someone in the middle of nowhere who had been bitten. Two days later, he gave me my choice (of a limited selection, sadly) of firearm from the gunsmith in Valentine. Now, I save EVERYONE if I can. Free guns are fantastic.1 point

I just saw a Tweet mentioning that R* is apparently aware of this issue and is working on it. Source: https://rockstarintel.com/rockstar-games-working-to-fix-red-dead-redemption-2-hdr-issues/1 point

I'm still fairly early into the game, but outside of actual missions, these are a few encounters that have been memorable: (possible minor spoilers?) The Nite Folk first encounter was interesting. I mean I knew it was gonna be some kind of ambush but the mystery of it and what lays in store for future encounters is what intrigues me most. Finding a house full of the remains of a suicide cult was pretty cool. Trying to rob the back room of the doctor in Valentine ended up with me killing half the town just trying to escape lol. That sh*t went south in a hurry1 point

During a party at camp I took a minute to try on some outfits. While I was changing, I heard what sounded like people having sex nearby. I looked around, and figured out they were in a tent near mine. I targeted the tent and chose "antagonize," and Arthur started yelling at them and making fun of them. Eventually, they came out complaining and looking very sheepish.1 point

If you don't watch what you do, you will always be on a wanted list. Like Rick mentioned, you have to pay off bounties. You can't just break the law and make a run for it, eventually, you will be too well known of a criminal.1 point

It amazes me how quickly people are to call things "bugs" because they don't like how they work. I may be wrong but it seems like this is a result of your play style? You have to pay off your bounties. This isn't a run and gun shooter. Commit crimes and you will attract attention.1 point

Awe ha, okay. I just tried cycling my pistols normally but have not tried had my horse. I will try this tonight thanks for the help!1 point

I learned my lesson after being bushwhacked by some O'Driscolls while doing cinematic travel. Never again. I lost so much great loot, including a unique horse (I won't say where I got it because it's a spoiler for a side quest). It just makes sense. Besides, it's fun to have that save point when you want to blow off some steam after losing a bunch of money at poker by turning the other players' heads into canoes at the table.1 point

@BropolloCreed79, About killing witnesses. I had a funny thing happen to me in the mountains.... I ran across a campsite that appeared to be abandoned so naturally, I began collecting items from it (donning my mask as a precaution). As I was looting a box I heard a dog approaching. .......oh, crap. Seems the owner had been out for a walk and discovered me looting his belongings. He ran off as I chased him but I lost him in the trees. I ran back, continued the looting as the dog incessantly barked. Well, one thing led to another and two dudes happened across the scene. .....I forgot I had my mask on and they asked what was going on (with guns drawn). I tried to diffuse the situation with no luck so I took them out. After that, it was like digging myself into a hole. Was dumping the last guy off a nearby cliff and yet another comes along. After having to dispatch 3 more unlucky travelers, I decided to just grab my horse and make make way off the mountain as fast as I could. ......never got a wanted level or a bounty on my head even with the original witness getting away.1 point

Yeah no way to get around the law coming for you I don't believe. My question is what you do with the Mayor in Strawberry. Got a tip from a stranger I helped, but don't know what to do with him. Followed him around a bit, even saved than killed him, but he only had a letter on him.1 point

I think i have just found a way to remove it. Go hunting and collect 3 or 4 pelts then go back to camp and sell them, when i did that it seemed to take away the glitched one, I didnt get anything for it but at least it's gone. I removed the saddle and put it back, it still appears to be gone so try it out and let me know👍1 point

@Poggy, Yeah, I did the same thing a couple times. ....ooops, wrong button. I once opened up on the butcher in Valentine on accident. He didn't die but I think I was charged with assault. I escaped, payed off the bounty and returned. It took a while but the guy kept busting my chops about "not wanting any trouble", etc. I built up my reputation with the town though and get good discount / prices now. I quickly learned to take things a little slower as well (good point). ....also on the manual saves. I've had to restore once before and it saved me some grief. The $300 bounty from that mission was the highest I've had so far. I don't want to give anything away but other missions I played after that were not nearly as much. ......actually a lot lower than expected. I too have been keeping a reserve of cash on me. I've already upgraded all my weapons (the ones I could unlock), my horse, saddle, etc. ......so I'm tucking away some cash for bounties and other items I can buy in the future as they become available. I've had tons of fun so far.1 point

The game is full of these side quests (which are AWESOME) Two I've stumbled across: And I love these side quests. Sure they get me off task from whatever I'm working on, but they're so great--and now I have some sick gear from the first spoiler that I use all the time.1 point

Horse perma-death, while not as bad as character perma-death would be, really adds a huge layer of danger/risk to the game. This is the main reason why I'm not going to risk getting a high quality horse - just going to stick with the freebies. Then I wont feel the sting half as bad. Maybe I'll get a high quality horse last - after I've used money to get everything else possible and have nothing else to spend cash on. Brutal mechanic!!1 point

Not big on squashing dreams, but instead of begging for help from strangers. I would suggest going back and talking to your parents and discuss how doing something like this could help make you a better person by showing initiative. I would also set down and think about all of the reasons you feel this is a good idea. Go in with a plan not an argument.1 point

Yeah, I found it - got the tip off, checked, and its in the guide too. But the guide also says the law will inevitably come after you - so I guess no way to prevent that.1 point

I echo mostly what Kean 1 says. It's mostly about playing careful and cautious. The two biggest problems are: 1) accidental crimes - often through me pushing a wrong button (user error) and drawing my gun, hitting them with a horse, or aiming at someone I meant to talk to etc. It's annoying because the complexity of the controls make this a semi-regular occurrence, but I have just learned to play more slowly, be more careful about what buttons i press in towns, and as I get more used to the controls it'll get better. Dont ride through streets, walk slowly, keep guns holstered etc - what Kean says If I do make a terrible error, I just reload a previous manual save and start over (I strongly suggest regular manual saves because of this issue). 2) high bounties - yeah the bounties (esp after story missions) can be high. But not crazy, nor unplayable. To pay off the story $300 one, for example, I stopped doing missions for a couple of hours, just sold almost everything I had, and hunted for a bit plus robbed a couple of people without getting caught. Took about two hours (starting from about $10 and a bunch of regular items) - and although irritating, I enjoyed the hunting and exploration and found all kinds of stuff while doing it. then went to post office. Bounty cleared, job done. I now try to keep a bounty reserve fund in cash on me - about $100 - as I go, to make paying bounties off quicker and easier.1 point

The only times I've been unable to manually save from the Story Menu is when I'm within a mission. The only thing I can suggest is to make sure you haven't got some mission or bounty or story element active before trying to manually save. You could also try turning auto save off/on again. Sorry, no great ideas about this.1 point

I've got the same problem, so annoying having an Alligator skin permanently on the back of my horse. It's definitely a glitch as it's not appearing at all in my horse cargo so I can't sell it or get rid of it!! Any ideas? Did anyone else with this issue have it where the skin wasn't in their horse cargo?1 point
