Don't take my response as some sort of excuse for griefing / trolling or the current design of Free Roam. That's why I used terms like "sad fact", "unfortunately", etc.
As for leaving a session..... If someone is getting griefed and doesn't want the leave the session or prefers to get revenge, etc. then that's their business but personally, I'd rather move on and continue enjoying the game instead of dealing with tools like these.
Having said that, I rarely run into trolls now using many of the tips several of us have shared in this forum and I've only had to leave a session twice. Most of my interactions with strangers lately have actually been good and I'm beginning to open myself up a bit to the thought of interacting more.
Anytime I see a post where a player is excused for griefing, because it is part of the "game's design". I think people confuse good PvP vs Griefing. We can PvP, without the griefing and it be part of the "Game's Design". Yes players will lose more often in a fair fight vs an ambush where you stack the odds against your opponent so they can't fight back. When we are done, we will "know" who was the better player that day.

No idea. It works fine for me.
Are you ordering from the catalogue or the stores? I purchased my cross draw holster with gold (from the catalogue IIRC) and some weapon upgrades at a store, a coat and a couple other things.
What exactly are you trying to buy? Some things will still be locked out by level and not all things can be purchased using gold I believe.
I have tried both, catalog and the stores/stable. It doesn't give me the option to use the gold at all.

Sure, they were jerks for trolling you but the sad fact is that they did nothing wrong and were playing within the game's design. Unfortunately, you broke the rules in your response.
Personally, I don't let people get me to the point where I would do that but that's just me. If someone is trolling me, I will simply block them and try to escape the situation (joining a new session if needed or when possible). .....but I also will report anyone who is using threats, slurs, etc.
In all honesty though, I have had very few problems with griefers overall and I've been playing a lot of solo sessions.
He did cross the line, but to say they did nothing wrong either. They spawn killed him. Why? Was he a threat? We understand the game allows that, but why must it be the only way players play it out.
Why is the answer have to be a person has to find a different server, just because player or players are just being asses? Oh, yeah cause the game allows it and they have no self control.
@Saltyballs If you don't get banned, I would probably try to avoid personal conversations with players you play against in the future.

I usually only look at my catalog inside of a post office. You're protected from griefers and anything you buy is right there to be picked up.
I currently didn't know there was safe places to do this. Then again when I spawned in, I didn't want to spend 15 mins traveling to an area so that I could do what should take me 5 mins and log off. Also when I spawned in, there was no one on my map even close. So instead spent that time just being trolled by a player that was useless in game as he is as a person outside of the game.
I just don't get players that don't clue in, that they aren't shooting back. Maybe, just maybe they aren't going to play with me. Instead they seem to think, "Finally! PvP that I can be good at. I can now tell my friends that I'm really really good player at PvP. Maybe they will come and help and make me a better player, by having 7v1."
-
Last night I logged in to upgrade some gear. I appeared out in the middle of nowhere, so I just used the catalog. Why in the menu, a player shot me dead. I re-spawned didn't see him around, went to back to what I was doing. Same player did it again. We went through this 5 times, the last time I just logged off. Figuring some assholes just couldn't help themselves. Obviously, I wasn't in the mood to play and had things to do. Yet, it didn't stop him from knocking out a few freebie kills.

Try pressing the left trigger when trying to purchase stuff. That should change the currency to gold bars, and then just buy stuff.
Been there, done that. Got ignored just the same. In the past when I didn't have the gold bricks it at least had the LT option. Now it doesn't.
-
I have been farming and saving, now I can't seem to spend it on anything. Even though I got the gold, it doesn't allow me to shortcut like so many others have. So am I the only one? Or is there a problem?

I also think people are throwing around the word grief too often.
Me and a buddy interrupted a posse of 4 doing a stranger mission and completed it instead of them all while killing them 10+ times...is that griefing? We stopped killing them once we completed 'the mission.'
You killed them once during a mission, which you doing is part of the mission. Now if they moved onto something new and you are following and killing them and they haven't fired a shot at you. Yeah, that is griefing. Now when you killed them once during the mission and they kept coming back and you kept killing them, well to me that is them wanting to participate in PvP and kind of asking for it. If your killing them is just to make sure they don't have any fun, is griefing.
Some of the missions, request outside interference. To me to participate in those isn't griefing, but there is a limit. Like one night I had to deliver 2 bags of mail and I was playing solo. Now what I got was 2 posses and both had 7 players each and they all focused on me. I don't feel I got griefed, but one posse of 7 players was more then enough to stop me from completeing it. Each group had about 5 apiece do nothing be keep me out of the mission once I got killed. While the others delivered it. Crappy situation, but it was part of the mission.
I have seen solo players fishing or hunting that had groups attack them. Then keep attacking them. Why? It wasn't required, yet they was hitting them hard.
Hell, I had one occasion this weekend. I loaded up and by the time I actually spawned in, I was dead. Re-spawned in and was dead before I got completely spawned in. I shut the game down, cause I felt that was horse sh*t.

Most likely, it won't be 16 days. With the holidays and all, you are talking Jan 8th or later. Players are already getting a bet edgy. Making them wait, most of the kids will be out of school from right before Christmas to after New Years. That is if they aren't already out of school.

To quote Jack Nickelson in Batman, "I ask this of all my friends?" Do you feel your online playstyle matches you real life personality? I personally feel it does, but have always have had debates with those that claim the way they act online is nothing like how the are in real life.
Do you feel your online playstyle matches you real life personality? Not asking so I can judge you, asking to be honest answers.

The despondency is why I lash out at others, because I want to, (as the always eloquent Mike Tyson once said) " stomp on their testicles so you could feel my pain."
Pretty accurate analysis of the PvP DZ. I'd argue that playing PvE Survival gave you that same experience without the grief of the regular DZ. Sure, mobs didn't respawn, so it wasn't quite as farmable, but essentially, it's similar enough. It also provided (for me at least) the most fun version of the game.
They also made a critical change to the way the DZ functions to give PvE players an opportunity to avoid "kill squads". Anyone that goes rogue is visible on both the minimap and large scale overlay, so it's simple enough to avoid them. And if a player in your vicinity decides to go Rogue, the days of them simply bushwacking you from behind and unloading an entire mag into your back are gone. They have to actively select it from their menu and there's a cooldown. You get a notification that someone near you is going Rogue, and have time to prepare.
Griefers can't bait you into going Rogue by diving into your line of fire anymore to make you the aggressor. Sure, coordinated groups can camp spawns, but anyone going into the DZ has the ability to fast travel to any number of other spawn points away from those clowns and farm different landmarks. It's easy enough to avoid them with the smallest amount of planning and situational awareness--It's the DZ, and mobs will spawn right on top of you if you dither.
I'm in a different place on The Division, having only come into it about a year after it was released. My perspective is VERY different from people who were hyped up by the E3 presentations and promises that never materialized on consoles--I came aboard right as the critical patches and content updates were being deployed that made it a MUCH different game (exotics, sets, incursions, Survival, the Underground, etc...). If I was a launch player, I probably wouldn't have been as forgiving of the initial experience.
Looking more forward to the PvE online portions of TD2 more than I am RDO in it's current state, though, I can tell you that much.
Thanks for the translations.
As for TD2, you got the exact idiots from Massive making it, being controlled by the same idiots from Ubisoft, who are asking for the same idiot YouTubers who screwed up the whole PvP situation. Yeah, it will be a train wreck and don't see any reason to buy the game. My son wants it and may convince me to buy it, but I don't see it being a better game in PvP or the DZ. I don't see anything changing. In fact had a friend who played the Alpha, supposedly he was told not to speak about it. He stated improvements was made, but not enough to endorse the game but he believes that if you liked the 1st, you will like the 2nd. Wouldn't tell me squat about it beyond that.

I have asked the same question before for other games. Amongst most of them the answers these I felt most honest.
1. Boredom. I got everything, done everything, still enjoy the game. All I got left to do is keep others from doing what I have, cause I didn't find it challenging enough. So I am doing them a favor so they can enjoy the game more.
2. I am playing the game as intended and you aren't. The Devs designed so I can grief you, you don't like it leave.
3. I like the sound of your whine.
4. I want to see how many players I can personally get to quit playing.
5. You can't stop me. If my griefing you was an issue, you would stop me. It's really your fault, not mine.
6. This is a PvP game and you are a PvE player, that means you ruin the game for me.
7. This is my personal favorite and in response to me stating that I read an article about players' actions in a game is a response to how they are in real life. So I quote, "Because I am a psycho bent on your destruction. It's your fault I kill you in the game, I can't help myself."
IMHO, I think most griefers have had it done to them and see it as they have no choice. If they want to continue playing games they like. Unfortunately, it changes them and how they view games. They eventually grief to avoid someone else to the punch. You know the old shoot 1st and ask questions later. There is no honor in playing PvP cause most players have no respect to their competitors. They don't want to face off beat you in a fair fight, when they know they will lose more often then they can win. They also usually put it on their targets as if it's their fault.
For example, The Division perfect example. The DZ was The End Game, a PvEvP zone. PvP players would avoid actually PvP battles and focus on PvE players. Insults, swearing, the whole nine yards. When the PvE players stated the best PvE in the game was in the DZ and they couldn't enjoy it, cause a PvE build was useless in PvP. The PvP players continued with insults. So PvE players started leaving the game in huge numbers. Those who stayed had few options on how to enjoy the game. So Ubi/Massive started adding things to keep them interested, but would do nothing to give them the exact same experience in a PvE DZ like zone. In that regards, the stood by the PvP players allowing them to bully and pick on part of the playerbase. They never did anything to support the PvE players in the DZ. They just called them sheep, but constantly keep doing things to entice them to go to the DZ for rewards. Now Ubisoft is allowing Massive to make a sequel for The Division and allowing the same YouTubers test it. Then claim it will be a game for everyone. They haven't changed a thing and when I left those forums, the same people was still arguing about PvP and PvE. The PvP players don't want the PvE players to have a safe mode where they can enjoy the game. Those same players need those PvE players so they can effectively play PvP in their minds.
So to me, I have seen and discussed with Griefers, that will intentionally complain about how bad PvP is, yet they will run from it, change servers just to find those who don't want it. Then brag about how great they are at PvP.

While I was fishing a while back, had a group shoot my horse, so while I was trying to get out of the fishing animation. They just sat there shooting all around me and then ran when I started shooting back. It took several minutes waiting for the horse to respawn.

Last time I did it, one of my teammates kept trying to lasso me. I kept screaming I got this one, get one of the others. So I get him hog-tied and head to drop him off then I had to go fight to get the others. Meanwhile, my teammate stood at the tracks with his gun pointed at him. Like that was going to help.

....and my question would be, what makes you assume RDO will go the route of the outrageous like GTA did? ....because of GTA? Again, they already have a successful franchise in GTA and (personally) I see no benefit in trying to duplicate everything that GTA was. Sure, they will borrow some elements from that game but I still think they will go a more "serious" or "time period" route with RDO. GTAV was all about things over the top, indulgent, ridiculous and silly. An over dramatization of modern society and "what ifs". RDR2 wasn't like that and I don't think they would go that route with RDO.
The UFO reference was an Easter egg found in the main game. You find a note and then travel to a certain location and there is an event that you can witness. Personally, I don't see any indication from an Easter egg like that that would lead me to believe that they will put UFO's in the game that we can fly, etc. I never tried to look for it but there are videos on it and tutorials on how to find it.
That's not to say that a future mode won't come along akin to RDR1s Undead Nightmare.
I don't know what to say. I'm not going to dwell or speculate on all the bad things that can happen in this game that we don't know about yet. For now, I'm going to continue to enjoy it as is and cross those bridges as we come to them.
Same model and GTA makes a killing finacially. Why wouldn't they get outrageous and go crazy? It makes a griefers paradise. They sell copies of GTA and RDR2. Now they get the same yahoos bying both.
-
Griefers seek easy targets. Many claim to be great PvP players but run when a PvP player shows up. They generally concerned about their K/D ratio to the point that if you kill them easily that they will change servers and then report you for griefing them.

Well, we already have evidence that they will use a similar, MTX business model with RDO. GTAO was proof that R* has the most successful GaaS model in the business. That's already happening now and in all honesty, I don't have a problem with it although I know some do. The way I look at it, it helps to keep the content coming and the game alive for much longer than it would without one. .....but then again, some are against any form of MTXs and that will never change. I still play GTAO and I've never spent a dime on Shark Cards. .....but I've got plenty of businesses, weapons, vehicles, properties and money. I tend to revisit after they add new stuff.
The wagons are no surprise. It was already leaked a couple months ago by dataminers that they discovered some in the code (e.g. small coach, chuck wagon, chuck wagon with gatling, supply wagon, utility wagon and a war wagon). ....and of course there will be new weapons and other types of new content as I would hope and expect they would have. It would be pretty boring if the current weapons were all they ever released IMO.
The data miners also uncovered possible evidence of properties people may be able to buy just like in GTA. Again, more content for people to spend their money on. IMO, what's the point in making the money if you can't spend it on things. A lot of which is going to be purely cosmetic fluff which people enjoy.
The same team also uncovered data in the app that points to private lobbies and "seamless PvE" (whatever that means).
R* only just announced last Friday that they acknowledge and will address the trolling issue with new anti-griefing measures after the holidays. It's only been a little over two weeks and RDO is still just a beta. I prefer to give them some time to see what they do. ....and even then, as long as people continue to provide their constructive feedback on their site, we could possibly see further changes.
I will say it again, RDO trolling is nowhere near the level it is in GTAO and there's a reason for that. Things tend to move at a slower pace. The fastest way to travel in this gameworld is by horse and even when the wagons become available, I highly doubt they will make them as fast or faster than our mounts. In all honesty, I see things like armed wagons as more defensive than offensive but again, we'll just have to wait and see how it all shake out. I'll reserve judgement until then.
Different strokes for different folks but I have to tell ya, playing with like-minded friends in RDO is way more fun and rewarding than playing solo. RDO isn't going to be everyone's cup of tea right now or even after the beta is over. ....and that's fine. Who knows, depending on the direction, I may end moving on to something else as well.
Ubi burned me on FC5 and the direction they took GRW / GW after release. They killed the AC series for me after BF. If there is one company that I can say I have the least faith in (other than Hello Games), it would have to be Ubi right now. Having said that, I heard they were going to reduce TTK in the Division 2 which actually caught my interest (the original was way too bullet spongy for me). Depending on what my friends do, I might just pick it up too.
So how long till those wagons have rockets on them, or they have horseless buggies. I read online that one dataminer discovered UFOs in his search, but couldn't tell how far that would go. Now if you have a horse and another player has a UFO, that can fly across the map in record speed. Griefing could get out of hand quick.

People who start late are always going to be at a disadvantage in a Free Roam mode like this regardless of whether there is an shortcut MTX system in place or not. If anything, one could argue that the gold bars will help some to get caught up when starting out.
....but like I said, I haven't played nearly as much as some folks around here and I've already got a lot of the good weapons in the game (all fully upgraded). I wouldn't consider myself at a disadvantage even while playing with people at levels twice or more than mine.
You've also got to remember that posses make a huge difference and I would encourage anyone starting out to group together with one. My friend and I took a new player under our wing the other night and helped him level up a bit and get some dough for new weapons in one session.
As for outrageous additions to the game, I simply don't see them doing the same thing as GTAV:O in RDO but I'm not going to try to convince you different. You've had a pretty negative view of RDO even before release and I can't say I blame you. ....GTAO didn't leave much of an impression on me either but I still don't believe R* is interested in doing a carbon copy of that game given that it still exists side by side with RDO.
Personally, I prefer to take a wait and see approach to find out how things will shake out. Even with some of the flaws my friends and I are having a blast with the game. Even though I think the griefing needs to be addressed (which they said they will), it is still nowhere even close to the levels seen in GTA and is mostly avoidable IME. In fact, I rarely ever get trolled anymore. It usually only happens when I spawn in or purposely take risks (usually when I'm with friends).
I'll wait and see how it goes before I make any final judgements on the game.
My view is that they will use a similar business model for RDR that they used in GTA. Basically same target audience. So far they have allowed griefers to run amuck with a promise that they will fix that. Hmmmm. This sounds so GTA like. Just waiting for the UFOs and flying Unicorns. To be fair those 2 things probably won't be in the game, but I expect tank like wagons and upgraded firearms.
-
For those who don't use the shortcut and play the game trying to earn, will be at a HUGE disadvantage to those who shelled out several hundred dollars and bought everything up front. Now you give it a year after they have released the flying unicorn with heatseeking missiles that come out of its butt. Those who start from scratch then have buy the Gold Cards or get griefed and left behind. Most likely they will just quit playing, then to try and catch up.

I spent money on a cross draw holster so I could carry two side arms. I think I spent it on a couple weapon mods as well, a coat and that's about it. I still have 6 or so left over.
The fact is, I'm not having a hard time collecting money for what I need. I've already got the main weapons I wanted (e.g. Lancaster, pump shotgun, 2 Schofields, bolt action rifle, etc.). .....and tricked them all out. I've got an Arabian for a horse and insurance on it.
How did you get the Arabian? I saved up the gold and it won't let me shortcut. It says I still have to get to like level 72.

So all of those that maxed their Gold will have that advantage, while those of us who didn't get there in time are just SOL. Well, guess that means I'm done with online then. Last night I was fishing had a player ride up on the black Arabian. Immediately, exited out of the fishing animations. He was standing there with his rope ready, when I drew my gun and shot at him. He hopped on his horse, I called mine over to give chase and he just took off and I wasn't able to keep up. Been waiting for the Arabian horse for just those situations.
