I think he meant until you've finished the game (story).

I would say this is unlikely to change.

Go for head shots without using dead-eye.

Auto aim full and just flick the stick when you lock on. Get your sensitivity right and you'll always get head shots.

agreed, the gold stars for the missions are something to try for after you've completed the game and the content.

Headshots are simple doing it this way.  Learned this trick in RDR.

Well then....carry on with your journey....but if it took you 12 real time hours to accomplish your goal, maybe you should do a little research on the proper way of doing it right? It never took me more than a hour maybe 2 at best to get a perfect pelt. Buy the way I did not quote your statement, but just stating that sometimes you have to work for it.:)

You have a trick to make the game spawn a 3 star wolf, or any other animal? I'd love to have it.  12 hours and the best I could find was 2 star.

Just now went to hanging dog ranch, camped to the east till evening, road around a bit, ran away from a grizzly, down towards the creek.  3 perfect wolves jump me, dropped 2 but messed up the shot on the third.

Finally got the pelts for the legend satchel.

You have to farm for that perfect pelt, and it should be that way.....if you got a perfect pelt on everything you killed, hunting wouldn't be important part of the game and it would effect the immersion aspect?

Guess you didn't read the OP.

12 real time hours farming for a hide isn't really that long. But I'm getting nothing but good wolves in that area, not even poor unless I screw up the shot.

Never hurts to ask if there's a better place to hunt.

Thanks @GarthAlgar and @elmZ. I'll head that way tonight when I play.

Will say some of the best scenery is up in that northern area, and I love the weather effects, got caught in a white out, and some really dense fog.  Almost peed myself when a grizzly roared and rushed out of the fog lol

  4. Spent the last 12 hours real time trying to get the damn perfect wolf hide to finish my legend satchel.  I swear I've turned in over a hundred good hides hoping the trinket might just bump one up to perfect.

Been hunting wolves up around Colter, is there a better place?

Guides online say tall trees but I haven't got that far in the game yet.

Is there anyone else that pre-ordered the physical copy of the game and couldn't redeem the PSN codes for the outlaw survival kit and the warhorse? Because I tried multiple times to redeem the code but it says Everytime that it might be incorrect or expired! And this is indeed a new copy not a used one ! And I made sure that I put the code correctly.

Sounds like time to call ms and/or Rockstar

  6. I'm the opposite, i have more fun playing single player than online.  I get too frustrated my old reflexes can't match the kids playing online 24/7 lol  makes it less fun for me.  Of course i'll have to check it all out when it goes online, gta5 was fun for a while.

My buddy had this happen to him. He contacted Rockstar about it and they didn't give him a straight answer. Just suggested that it would be saved and still in the stable, which it was not and still is not. It has been weeks. The horse is long gone.

That's because horses die a permanent death.  You don't get them back except the DLC horse.  So save often!

I have PS4 but I can try that also.  Haven't played for a few days.  Real life getting in the way of my playtime.  Hopefully tonight!  Thanks again Kormath!

the holding LB/RB down is for the PS4, do that after the first splash screen, when it goes black.  That doesn't work on the Xbox, just have to exit the game and hard boot the console.

I should also mention that I just got back from Guam (sp) so I wonder if I missed my opportunity to go after the legendary alligator

is there a timer on that one?  that would suck cause i've probably missed it too then.

That's a big step.  While not old (mature) enough in my mind yet to wield a firearm (he's a little younger than yours), I still quiz my son on the 4 basic rules that all children should know about when they encounter them "in the wild".  .....stop, don't touch, get out of the area and tell a family member / adult.

As he gets older we'll be talking about the 4 basic rules of gun safety when handling firearms.  My dad taught me on BB guns in our backyard.  Nowadays I have been entertaining the idea of Airsoft guns as a decent alternative for instruction.

I have my old Ruger MkII and 10/22 when he's ready to move up to the real thing.   .....fun times.

That's what i did with my boy.  Airsoft/BB gun when he was 6, .243 youth at 10 to go hunting with me.  Then when he decided hunting wasn't for him i swapped out the stock on the .243 and it's mine :)  Can't have too many rifles...

His first hunting trip was a draw hunt for Pronghorn.  They're worse than rabbits around my brothers ranch.  So we went there to hunt some in his fields.  First time we saw a herd we snuck up on them and used the brush around a power pole as cover.  Till my son sat down on a thistle and yelped and scared them away.  Jump back in the truck, drive across a couple fields to the next herd, he slams the truck door on accident and they go running off.  found a 3rd herd in a field a few to the south.  Had a great big Case tractor in the corner we hid near for cover.  Had a perfect line on a doe broadside but then he got buck fever.  Sit and aim and fidget, aim and fidget, then the doe turned and trotted off and he called it.  "Dad my butt hurts and i'm done, lets go home" lol

Gotta love those first hunting trips :D

Is it one of the outfits you have to have high honor to access?

    Spoiler

You get it in the start of "A Fine Night of Debauchery" mission.

From what i'm seeing online this happens a lot.  Looking like it's just for that mission and when you remove it it's gone, doesn't look to be a bug/glitch.

You get feathers if you take the carcass apart. There is one stranger mission which requires a perfect carcass and I don't think you can get that with the varmint rifle. Bow + small game arrow + deadeye works pretty good. I've found that you need pretty open areas in order to hunt the little bastards. The plains around Emerald Ranch is perfect and so is the plains around Blackwater if you have access to it. Also, it has to be daytime and sunny/overcast.

I don't remember seeing an option to pluck the smaller birds, i must have missed it.  I'll have to check that out when i get back from the holidays.

Having fun isn't the question?  Just curious why players rush through a game?

Fun is different for everyone like @Poggy said.

it can be fun just doing the story line.  That's how i played RDR, i did the story line and had a blast just doing that.  I loved the story, it was entertaining and captured me so i just played it through.  Then i went back and played the side missions and whatnot that i missed along the way.  Then went back and played again to get what i missed on the last play through.  And then i did the whole game again, side content, etc along the way with the story line to refresh before RDR2 was released.

I've played other games that had story lines and side missions and open world stuff like this, and they weren't near as fun, the side content got boring so i just played the story line and had fun.  I can't go back and replay those, the story line wasn't captivating enough to suffer through it again.  RDR2 i'll be playing numerous times through.  First to do the other side of the hat, i'm playing red this first time, i'll play white next time.  Then i'll have to play through and get gold in all the missions.  Not to mention the hunting in this game is phenomenal.  I've been loving it, it's mostly what I've done since the game was released.

Probably far more a simple correlation between stupid kids in dysfunctional environments spending lots of time on a phone.

    That's exactly it.

I went out with friends for pizza and beers last night.  Brought the conversation here up with my teacher friend as i was curious what he did with the papers.  He gave those kids an F on their English essay.  One parent threw an epic fit about her child getting an F.  Something about that's how English is now, look it up online they're real words.  'Cause anything on the internet is true right?  Just ask the state farm insurance girl and her french boyfriend.  He said the mom was looking at urbandictionary.com  because it's a real valid dictionary so everything in it is real English and should be allowed in their papers she thinks.

Parental failure, idiots breed and teach their kids to be idiots.  And that family is very dysfunctional, she was a problem teen, knocked up at 15 had this kid at 16.  Her parents took custody as she got into drugs and had a new boyfriend every other week, not to mention the guys she slept with for her drugs.  She finally cleaned up her act, at least enough to get custody back, and now she's the vengeful, my kid is a saint, type parent.  Really feel sorry for the kid, but what can you do.

I wouldn't worry about it unless I was stuck at like 99.9% and couldn't find anything else I was missing.
You could always goes back and try to catch it again if you're concerned about it.

I caught the muskie yesterday and dropped it. Luckily it got caught on a rock and I was able to retrieve it. I sent it in (and checked everything to verify) but it's still not crossed off. I'm guessing it's a bug with dropping the fish before mailing it. As long as everything says you've caught it, I would assume you got credit for it (especially since you got the reward).

    is that the one

    Spoiler

    at Lake Owanjila?

I swear i've caught it before and when i went back last night as it wasn't crossed off i spent an hour fishing and couldn't catch it.  Did get a 20 lb muskie though, but i released it :(  i'll have to check the progress and see if that one is checked.

  16. Many reasons to race to the end.  I've done it before just to see the ending, then replay and focus on everything else.  This game i'm focusing on everything else first, then i'll finish the story line as i'm forced to, like

    Spoiler

Progressing in Chapter 3 to unlock the Horse Fence

My son is leaving for Job Corps next week, he rushed through just doing story line so he could see the ending before he had to leave, now he's playing through again doing the side missions and challenges until he leaves.

I don't get the people that have to brag about it, what are they 10?

Edit: Googled a bit more, says I just need to manually restart the game through the menus. I'll report back once I get the chance to try, away from my console right now.

THat's what i was going ot suggest.  Always a good idea to exit the game when done playing for the day.

If that doesn't work you can do Rockstar's famous solution of clearing your cache.

On Xbox exit the game (if you don't know how to exit hit the home button, then move to RDR2 and hit start button, then choose quit/exit)  then hold the power button in on the console till it shuts down, wait 30 seconds and restart.

On PS4 after the initial splash page, when the screen goes black press and hold  R1 and R2 until you see the screen resizing option and darkness setting.

  18. I knew it.  Rockstar's answer to my ticket on the disappearing horse  was to clear the cache.

But then i got looking online for more info to send them as i've seen other's post on this. and here's what i found -

    Quote

Rockstar Games wanted the horses in Red Dead Redemption 2 to play a more significant part in the game rather than just a cool way to travel. The studio confirmed that players will be given the opportunity to bond with their noble steeds, which will serve as a beloved companion. Of course, the more loyal the horse is to the player, the better it will perform and behave in combat.

Moreover, it seems that players must also ensure the safety and well-being of their horses as Phil Hooker, the director of technology at Rockstar Games, confirmed that once horses die in-game, they will remain dead forever.

Guess i should should read more on the game huh?  :P  And why the hell couldn't the Rockstar rep tell me horse death is permanent?  If I offered my customers the round about support they do i'd lose my job.

I am guessing this is an issue with one of your wire then. I had this happen with an HDMI cable before. It would do it once in a while and then suddenly all the time. I had no idea what it was till I spotted the wire. It got damaged somehow, I am assuming my bearded dragon had something to do with it that little bastardo. lol

agreed.  I just had to replace my HDMI cable for this when i got my new xbox one s (i'm too cheap to buy the X still) a few weeks ago.  My other Xbox One S my son is now using worked fine on that cable, but it gave me these weird color flashes on the new one.  So either bad cable or in the OP's case possibly a loose connection.

  20. Actually weapon doesn't matter on Legendary, you won't ruin their hide like you would shooting a regular animal with the wrong gun trying get the perfect hide.  Use your biggest gun, shoot it in the head till it drops.  or the ass.  doesn't matter.
