I think I was using some starting guns for that. I don't think anything was upgraded. I think I was using the standard ammo. Hosea may have given me some rifle, which I may have used, but I can't recall. For the actual fight ...

I recall having to shoot it many times. It charged me and was mauling me.

My cats in my living room freaked out and I had to pause and turn the volume down to calm them down.

I thought I was going to die. But manage to shove it off. And shoot off several rounds at its head before it charged me again.

I was a little surprised that the actual fight wasn't as hard as I thought it was going to be. Maybe that's coming from playing other games (Diablo 3) and thining Legendary was going to mean it has more hit points, higher resists, and hits harder. The animal did require more steps, with tracking, to eventually find it. And it does potentially get more complex with using scent concealers and bait, to help find it.

I've only gotten a few legendary animals, but so far i've found them much more easy to take down than trying to get perfect pelts from regular animals.

    Spoiler

Seems they have a pattern they stick to, if you chase it off and it runs, wait, it will come back to that spot and follow the pattern.  I've never had a legendary take more than 2 shots, other than the Bison, but that's cause i was using the varmint rifle by mistake.

It's different between Pearson and the Trapper.  Different inventories.

If you donate to Pearson in camp, it stays in his inventory until you try to craft with it.  Bearing in mind that only Perfect Pelts are usable for crafting (i.e. 3-star), any other pelt is simply donated for credit or sold for cash.

The Trapper keeps a separate, independent inventory from Pearson.  If you want to prioritize satchels, donate perfect pelts to Pearson.

If you are prioritizing clothing upgrades/options, you should focus on donating to the Trapper.

What we really need is a spreadsheet that shows which perfect pelts can go to whom for crafting, because there's SOME overlap, but many of the items needed to craft are different.

I made one. but i can't attach it here,  doesn't accept xlsx files.

    Chapter 7????

Bounty Hunters have never been an issue in either of my playthroughs. Ignore the bounty until it gets to the $100+ region then just pay it off. Once you clear ch 2 you're never short of cash. I always had $2500+ on hand and never had a bounty over $250, so bounty hunters were never even a slight consideration, let alone a problem.

I like bounties :)  I'm playing as red as i can get this play through.  Maxed my bounty up to $500 in chapter 2 in all 3 states.  just started chapter 3, not sure if it goes higher than $500 in chapter 3.  My son was in chapter 4 or 5 and had his up to $650, have to see if that's the max when i get up that far in the story.

That also explains why i'm always struggling for money lol.

99 times out of 100, that ends up being a snake in the grass.  Every once in awhile, it's a black bear, at least in my experience.  But unless I'm in 1st person mode, it's almost impossible to track the snake down without using Eagle Eye AND getting lucky.

Took me forever to get the 2 perfect snake skins i needed.  They're fairly easy to find in tracking mode, but they do move fast.  i found it was easier to run up to them and have them strike at you, or get bit usually, and then they will coil up and sit waiting for you to shoot them.  Just make sure you have ginseng on hand :)  My Arthur's legs probably look like pin cushions now as many times as i've gotten him bit.

What i don't get, is even after studying the snakes before killing them, they always show up in tracking as "unknown animal".

I have never had a pelt deteriorate... I always just throw them on my horse as I go.

The carcass will, but not the pelts (unless I'm totally oblivious which isn't exactly unbelievable).

Nope you're right.  carcasses will eventually decay and fall off your horse, if i recall it's 2 days.  hides won't.  I've ridden around for well over a week in game time and the hides were still perfect when i turned them in.

Also, if you kill an animal, then run back to your horse (cause it's being stupid and won't come when you whistle) and the paw print of the kill goes off the mini-map. it will be decayed when you go back to get it.  Had that happen twice this weekend trying to get the last 2 perfect deer i needed.

I keep wondering if some point for RDR2O we don't have the option for a companion dog, similar to a horse, that just follows us around.

Can you imagine hunting with a dog, and having it fetch the small game and bring it to you?  Or pointing out animals that you're actively tracking?

Holy hell, as if I didn't play the game enough already....

that would sell it for me.  I hate losing animals in knee deep water cause i can't get them in time.

Camp around the N or the E in New Hannover and save your game, head west toward the Dakota river on foot and creep around the rocks that surround the river banks. Woodpeckers, Robins, Cardinals, Sparrows, Bluejays, Songbirds, Oriolles and even the odd eagle or too will spawn randomly on the tops of them. I personally like following the river north as it seems to have more spawn points.

Protip: Using your binoculars usually causes them to fly away (stupid mechanic imo) so just use a rifle scope or aim your bow to find out what bird it is.

varmint rifle, you can sell what's left of the carcass for pocket change.  I've tried hitting them with the small animal arrow, and the smaller song birds are really hard or i'm a horrible shot.  you get no feathers or nothing from them anyway, take em out easy after studying :)

  8. another tip that might help is clearing the game cache.

    Exit the game

Hold the xbox power button in till it powers off

    wait 30 seconds

    turn xbox back on

load game, after choosing profile, story mode etc, the screen goes black, hold down LB and RB then until you get the option to recalibrate the darkness and set the screen size.

Set those and play the game.

That fixed my issue of having the first horse you buy from replacing whatever horse i was riding.

  9. my experience -

Ambush on the road/bridge/etc, you can kill and loot and steal horses and whatever,  as long as they shoot first, without committing a crime.

Other gang members you can obliterate and not get a crime, doesn't matter who shoots first.  I killed a passing Leymoine Raider and looted him, guy riding by thanked me lol

Innocents that you antagonize, bump into, don't like your BO, whatever,  if they start shooting first, you can kill them, without committing a crime.  The crime comes if you take any action to them after you kill them - looting, kicking, moving, etc.

Best gun to use on the Legendary Grizzly?

       Thanks

i used the one Hosea gives you in the mission.  1 headshot it's dead.

    Spoiler

Legendaries aren't like perfect hides.  you can shoot them multiple times.  I accidentally tried hunting the Legendary Bison with the varmint rifle, took me 4 or 5 shots to realize i had the wrong gun equipped.

  11. I don't wear masks, no need for them with the bandanna already in your inventory.  I get the blood comments coming in from hunting, get told i need a bath, etc.  Only time i've gotten a hat comment was wearing the beaver hat from the guy that i knocked out and stole it from.

Get lots of comments about my horse.

Oh and if you're attacked by wolves in the road, and just blast them away without a care for skins, then the people passing by while you're moving them off the road will make fun of your hunting skills.

Came through town (I think Valentine) the other day when they were hanging some guy.   That was kinda intense to watch,  especially with his woman wailing right next to me.   Has anybody else seen this  yet?

yep saw that exact same hanging this weekend when i was working on the sharpshooter challenges.  Wouldn't let me shoot him down either.

Which trinket? I've got a talisman I think from the pre-order bonus. I've upgraded camp fully and got legend of east satchel but haven't made anything out of legendary animals yet. I need to get a bull for the legendary bear outfit but don't want to piss the farmers off by killing their bulls 😔

    Spoiler

Trinket you get from killing the Legendary Buck, a Fence will craft it for you.

And i think @Bonzai is right, i've seen 1 star animals carrying the trinket, if it worked the way i was thinking you'd never see a 1 star.

So I bought an American Standard. Called her "Bessie" 🙂 We did lots of miles and missions together.

I put PS4 in rest mode.

Fired the game up today, and now I've got a donkey old Tennessee Walker.

Bessie did not die. She's just gone.

Anybody else experienced this bug? I don't want to have to keep buying horses because they disappear.

yep, couple posts here about it.  You need to save them in the stable.  then if they die, glitch, etc. they'll return to the stable you saved them in.  To save just stable them.

Had that happen to my Legendary horse i tamed.  I had to go back and restore a previous save to get her back as i didn't save her in the stable first.  After restore and saving her in the stable, i lost her waking up from camp last night, but she was back in the stable when i went looking.  You buy them back for $0.00

Did you check the fences. Most of the arrow recipe's can be bought at your friendly neighborhood fence.

Yep bought everything the fence had for pamphlets, and from what i've read all fences have the same stock of goods for sale.

Looks like its not available for me yet.  One post on gamefaqs says chapter 5, the next says chapter 4.  So i guess i won't worry about doing the survivalist challenges for a while yet.

Edit: found this on google, have to go see if i can get there tonight and not wait for chapter 4 or 5

    Spoiler

    Dynamite Arrow Pamphlet

Can be obtained in a lock box tucked under a small wooden bridge to the South of the Wapiti Indian Reservation. There will be a ruined building nearby.

    Poison Arrow Pamphlet

From Bacchus Station, head to the northeast, into the hills. After you climb past the rocks and go on for a little bit, you’ll eventually run into a hovel that seems to be made of mainly rocks and moss. There’s a bunch of rubbish next to the right wall of the hovel. There’s a lock box among the junk, next to the broken barrel. Open it, and you’ll find the RDR2 Poison Arrow recipe

Edit: So this is wrong, I don't have the poison recipe and it's not at this location, maybe I missed something that unlocks it?

Not sure if I've got the fire one yet, definately haven't got the dynamite one. Got the others though and still in chapter 2. I had to Google the poison one to get it, it was in a lockbox next to a rundown shack. Maybe the dynamite one is mission related?

maybe it's the fire and dyno i'm missing.  i've made 3 of them.  I thought the fire was made like the bullets with the animal fat.

  17. One tip i wish i would have known before losing my horse.  Save it in the stable!  Save it by stabling it.  If it dies, gets stolen, etc. it will return to that stable where it can be bought for $0.00  Special horses like the DLC are returned to the Valentine stable.

Also if your horse does get stolen just whistle for it.  Takes a few times but it will eventually buck off the thief and return.  i'm just guessing it bucked him off, he rode over the top of the hill on the 2nd whistle and i couldn't see them, third whistle brought the horse running back.

  18. Wonder if this is where that clearing cache would work?

I'm one that never had an issue finding the treasure.  I got the map, don't think i killed Chick, i might have let him live, been too long ago to remember.  Looked at the map, found the tree and looted it.  Easy 5 minute mission.
