I have no issues letting my 8 year old and 5 year old watch while I play. To me it is just a game and I had myself very liberal parents that had no problem letting me watch violent movies and such. If I as a parent tells my children that it is just a game and game, movies and such are not real. Then I think they will understand because I remember myself able to understand the difference between fiction and real life at a very early age.
That is not to say that all children are equally good to understand the difference between fiction and real life. But I turned out quite well and I have no doubt that my children will turn out just fine and that watching me playing a game will not harm them in any way. In the end it is all up to how the parent explains things and what behavior and personality the child has.
I would also like to say that none of my friends has any problems with their children watching this game and my friends are not exactly trailer trash. I am myself working as an historian with the Abrahamitic religions and their history as my main focus. My friends are mostly in the same field and I have two brothers whom one is a lawyer and the other one is a soon to be police officer. None of them has any problems playing violent games and letting their children watch. This may be a cultural issue!? I am from Sweden and here, at least in my social circle there is no panic if there is violence or nudity in a movie or a game. Children these days discuss Game of Thrones at school so I am quite certain RDR2 is not such a big deal.
agreed. My friends and I had a blast playing GTA5 when it came out for hte Xbox One. My son and their son also played wiht us online. It's all on the parents to educate and make sure their children know games and movies apart from reality.
Take a look at the kid that wanted to play GTA5 for real, stole the car and and wrecked 2 others? that's a parental failure.

Like everybody else, I purchased the special edition and I am not getting any of the items I'm supposed to. After over 2 hours of troubleshooting with Rockstar chat, and sending them multiple pictures for proof, they basically told me they can not do anything for me, and I need to contact the retailer whom I purchased it from, which is Amazon. I don't understand how it isn't their issue to deal with, but they refuse to do anything about it. I told them how unsatisfied I was and they didn't care at all. I've tried uninstalling everything, and of course that didn't work. Very frustrated with all of you guys. Let's hope they fix it.
I would think this would fall on MS, have you talked to them yet?

They do. Which reminds me: I need to do more of those "suicide by horse" videos.
you mean like running into a map glitch at the edge of a cliff and hoping you'll learn to fly before you hit the canyon floor? lol I wish i would have known how to record game clips when i did that. Sadly my son just showed me how to record them last week

Knife doesn't work?
Or you don't know how to use the knife?
Super odd that it would be the only thing that "doesn't work".
Occam's Razor folks. The simplest explanation is usually the right one. User error versus broken game play? User error wins every time.
No offense to the OP but some of this game's "problems" are fabricated.
way to tear a guy apart for coming looking for help and ideas.

Don't you have to press B as its a melee attack? I can't quite remember, haven't used the knife all that much to be honest
Yep, it's a melee weapon. Press B (or the PS equivalent) to use the knife.

They look like hay cubes for the horse. I found a box at a camp that had these cubes in it and that's what they were. Really tough to pick up, you have to move to the perfect spot to get them. took me like 5 or 6 tries inching over this way then that before the X popped up in the corner so i could pick them up.

I do the gambling and others when i get tired of hunting or looking for treasure or the many other world things there are. Herbalist is the one i have yet to do anything with, i think i'm Herbalist 2 still lol.

Be extra careful while brousing RDR2 topics and tutorials on YouTube. There are tons of spoilers, especially in the comments. Some are clearly planted there to mess with your day, using one short line that you really can't help seeing even while quickly skimming over the list. If you hate spoilers (who doesn't) I'd avoid the comments altogether!
No suprise there, it's that way whenever a new game comes out. It's why i never look at youtube for game tips or hints until i'm on my 2nd play through finding out what i've missed. Forums like this or the online guides/tips pages are what i look at the first time playing through.

I don’t remember what my highest down he was I had one about $1500. But what I’m tired of his getting bounties for trying to be good. Somebody was shooting at me in town and I disarm them and still got a bounty. What are you supposed to do let them kill you just not to get a bounty. Or shoulder bumping somebody and getting a bounty. I don’t mind when I do something but these little bullsh*t bounties are pissing me off.
wear your bandanna or mask when you bump the pansies on the street

Did you start the conflict that had the guy shooting at you? like antagonize him or something? You shouldn't get a bounty if they start it and you shoot back. I've done that many times trying rob stage coaches. Hit the button to rob them, holster all weapons when someone passes by and they start shooting, then you can kill them and won't get reported. However if you loot the body, they'll report you then.

I used the round table knights names for my horses. Because you know, I'm not original or creative. Got a full stable with: Guinevere, Galahad, Lancelot and Tristan... Lancelot was going to be named "Austin Powers" originally, because goldmember (the horse have gold coat) but I got profanity on the name and I don't know why, btw anyone knows why would toggle the profanity? (I'm not a native english speaker, I don't see anything wrong with Austin Powers)
no clue on that one. i know you can't name your horse Dumb sh*t, i tried that with my original one lol. Austin Powers triggering profanity huh? that doesn't make any sense to me.

Always keep an eye out for the tips in the top left corner, they're full of useful information like that.
Yep that's how i saw to plant the sticks of dyno to blow the safe.

Looks like this depends on the area you're in? I thought it was on the chapter you're on.
I haven't done much in Saint Denis, but in New Haven you max at $500. Have to see what i can get in Strawberry, see if there's a good spot in town I can hole up in and go on a killing spree
After i finish hunting anyway, i hate having a high bounty and trying to hunt lol
-
congrats! I'm almost there, so close lol i need a perfect elk skin and i'll have 3 of the 6 satchels done. Should have that tonight. I would have had it last night but i kept letting things distract me and didn't hunt as much as i had planned to. Tonight it's all about hunting.

Same as @Truth The only carcasses i keep are for the few upgrades at camp. However, if i go to turn in stuff to Pearson and he says food is running low then i will go out and bag 3 or 4 animals and bring back the whole thing unskinned since you can't just gut the animal and bring it back like you really would if you're just going for the meat. Pearson can deal with the guts since he's whining about food and too lazy to help hunt.
Plus you can carry numerous hides, except for the larger animals, and only 1 carcass at a time.

Growing up around horses we've always named them on their color or personality. one of my favorite horses was a big brown super gentle horse. He was named Brownie. Another one was Badger, he'd turn on you in an instant for no reason, kinda like when a badger leaves it's den then walks away a few steps and then charges you. My cousin had an Appaloosa named Spot. I thought that was pretty obvious and lame, he also had a dog named Spot, he wasn't the imaginative type. Uncle had a horse named Red, matched his temper and demeanor, he was great at cutting cattle though. Friend in high school way back when had one called Bolt, originally because he was super fast as a colt, but the name stuck as when you tried to ride him he would bolt. if you weren't ready for that you were spitting dirt lol.
I name my horses that way in the game, well mostly.
My lost Arabian I called Snow, cause yeah he was white
The DLC horse i also lost to the horse glitch was called Shadow,
The jet black Standardbred I'm riding now is Death. After losing the legendary Arabian and going on the killing spree in Valentine i went hunting up north of Strawberry to cool off and get the perfect elk skin. I caught him up there and the name seemed fitting since i was killing everyone at the time lol.
Also picked up a grey/black something or other sometime along the way, big work horse looking thing, i haven't ridden it enough to remember what it is. She's called Darkness as her legs are grey and body/back goes to black. kinda like the dark coming in.

awesome post. Now you can see why i was so furious when the horse glitch took that horse from me
I spent my 4 hours of play time last night hunting for perfect skins for the satchels and camp upgrades. I loved every minute of it. even the 30 minutes when i went to Valentine for ammo and decided to try the Sharpshooter challenge i've been working on. I failed miserably but it was still fun.
That's probably one of my favorite things about this game. I fail a few times at what i'm doing but i've never gotten frustrated enough to turn it off or throw things. Even failing is fun lol

What are some good spots that can give you valuable fish? Currently looking for some right now. I got the bait, I got the lures, just point me in the right direction and I’ll be there
use the specified lures, like the lake lure or river lure for that area, you're guaranteed large fish then. you can use the special lures also, if it's not a spot where a legend is at the large fish will still take it.
Depends what kind of fish you want ot catch. the game is very similar to RL. lake fish are in lakes, river fish in rivers.

and I (foolishly) tried mine in the far north where the snow came up to my knees, and the damn thing was running a picket fence through trees. That white on white is pretty tough to track when you've been roleplaying Arthur IRL as a cantankerous middle aged man with borderline alcoholism.
That's where i caught him.
SpoilerHe spawned on the southwest side of lake isabella, i chased him from there to the northwest near that little fallen down shack and then north from that until i finally caught him.

I haven't bothered looking there... I'll check that out!
I finally tried installing that companion app this morning, but my phone is too dumb for it apparently...
i just installed that like 10 minutes ago myself. You can view the manual, achievements, progress, strat guide, etc. but for the good stuff like the live map you have to sync it with your game.

I haven't gotten around to that yet (haven't had much playtime this week...), but I did read and enjoy your post! That post is my only really motivation to go catch it, I've grown attached to My Horse (that's his name).
Are you sure that's an option? I tried to read into it but couldn't find anything...
just found this

i thought that was fairly easy. I got kicked on my arse once, had to chase him down 3 or 4 times but that was it. Took maybe 15 minutes. I'm still fuming that i lost him when i died in Valentine. I jumped off him in the auction area, maybe that was my mistake, he got auctioned i bet. lol

I enjoy hunting, fishing, and taming wild horses more than the missions LOL
Ditto that. But it was that way with RDR also for me. And i'm a huge fan of the hunting games anyway. Before this I spent a good portion of my week playing TheHunter: Call of the Wild. I was really happy the hunting in RDR2 is almost as realistic, and at some things more realistic, than the hunting game.

I strongly advise that you go for the Legend of the East Satchel. Holding 99 of each item feels like a cheat code.
It's only going to make the rest of the game easier and more enjoyable. As soon as I found out about it, I stopped working on the story and went straight to hunting. I'm still on chapter 2, but I'll never have to leave loot behind again. I can hunt/fish for days without worrying about space (really helping with animal fat). All in all, it's a worthwhile investment of your time.
i just started chapter 3, have yet to do any story missions in it though. FIgured it was a good time to get all the benefits from the challenges and whatnot before i continued on to make the rest of the story easier
And tonight i have nothing going on for once after work so i'll be playing from when i get home until i look at the clock and go "Oh @#$*!! I gotta get to bed!" lol

Miss-able Items, achievements and weapons.

Also some missions/people aren't available if you're playing the villian and playing for as much red honor as you can get. I'm guessing some of the missions aren't available for the white hat hero in the same way. I have to play through twice just to do both sides. and yes, i'll have to get 100% each time, i'm OCD that way lol.
