And I felt so clever when I suggested it...
i thought the same thing - what a great idea! i'll try that tonight. then i googled and saw the post on gamefaq "I tried to lasso and it didn't work". Ah well, i'll try it anyway, maybe that person is bad with his rope skills?

I have progressed with a story and uncloked ability to slow down time every time I press Right dual-shock thumb-stick, the time slows down but I am allowed to shoot once only and time comes back to normal. I could paint multiple targets before this progression unlock and it seems that I have lost this ability. What do I need to do to mark more than one target please? Thanks.

Did you check the stables in Valentine? i remember reading (at least i hope my memory remembers) that special horses are returned there.

Thanks!
read on another forum searching this just now that nobody has found a way yet to get the gun from the cave hermit. Lassoing doesn't work. Haven't seen much about the other hermit that supposedly has the shotgun also. Something i get to check out tonight after work

Location ?
From vgr.com
SpoilerRare Shotgun
Despite its name, there are actually multiple locations where you can find the Rare Shotgun. The first is Hanging Dog Ranch which is north of Wallace Station. Head a little ways west of the ranch and you’ll encounter a cave hermit wielding the shotgun. The second location is Manito Glade which is north of Annesburg. Again, you’ll have to take the shotgun by force, this time from a hostile recluse who calls the glade home. This is a good weapon to track down if you’re already a fan of the Pump-Action Shotgun.
-
Oh another thing i just remembered. If you auto-aim like @sLLiMM suggested, then press up quickly (like just tap it up) on the joystick it will switch to a head shot.
-
like @Poggy said if you fail enough you should get an option to skip on the screen where you choose to restart at the last checkpoint, etc. I've seen it there on some missions i had a tough time with but haven't used it yet, so not sure how far you skip ahead or what is skipped.
There's no timer for freeing Micah that i ran into. I had to do that one a few times myself. Make sure to use cover, and use the repeater or the volcanic pistol if you have it. Also, use the cross cut bullets, you make them in camp from regular bullets. they do almost as much damage as the express (i think that's the more powerful one) and you don't have to pay for them, you usually pick them up looting people.

Do you have to equip/wear them to get the benefits? or does just owning them give you the benefits?

People should always do this when they're done playing (instead of just turning off their xbox). It prevents a lot of bugs.
like the rider on a Pegasus (not really) that i found last night trying to get the long shot challenge. Once my OneDrive account is unfrozen i'll have to post that clip.

The last fish I need seems to be stuck, or dead under the ice in Lake Isabella. Is anyone else having this problem? I don't know what I'm supposed to do...wait for an obscure patch that might not come?
more info would help.
I found this one swimming in the shallows near the bank between the ice. hooked it and it broke my line. took 3 days in game for it to come back.

Maybe I just not being clear enough. Tracks stop, horse GONE. If you use Hunters Vision. It stops with the tracks. It is GONE. No where to be found. Disappeared. Zilch. No be there. Totally not on the map. I haven't seen it since. Been up there a dozen times since I saw last and it just won't appear. Yet the wolves dead carcasses are still there and it has been over 2 weeks in the game since I saw it last. I am getting to the point where it is just simply ticking me off. My son showed me a video of some kid who rode up to it and jumped from his horse to it, broke it in a few seconds and rode it back to town.
quit the game maybe? meaning (if your on xbox) hit the home button, start button on the game and quit. then restart it. I've had to do that a time or 2 to clear dead animals that wouldn't despawn. Had a dead cougar just below the trapper up near Lake Owanjila for over a week game time. Couldn't find any others up there at all and the cougar wouldn't decay. A week on the ground and i could still pick it up and move it around. Quitting and restarting fixed that. next day in game the cougar was decayed and couldn't use, day later it was gone and i got my 3rd of 5 that night near there.

yep i tried stealing the train. When you leave the engine it slows down and eventually stops. I did finally finish the challenge with the 2 flocks of ducks that were spooked on attempt 15 or so lol. So far that's been the hardest challenge i've come up against.
If you stand on the passenger cars you can shoot twice before committing a crime, the first shot scares all the passengers, the 2nd shot is reported, or maybe it just took them until my 2nd shot to report the first one.
-
Huh guess you have to be lucky. No matter which car you're on you commit a crime shooting from the train. Just happened I had 2 large, flocks? Of ducks fly over before they stopped the train and I completed the challenge.
-
I'm stumped on this one. Every time I try I get the guards in the train reporting a crime and the train stops. I ride back to emerald station pay my bounty ($835 so far) and sleep till morning or whatever to catch the next train. Jump on a different car the guards aren't in but I still commit as crime somehow.
Even tried Sterling the train but once you leave the engine it slows and stops and once again I have a bounty.
What's the secret?

I don't know if it's just me or not, but I never felt I needed to 'go out and make money.'
This game just doesn't have expensive things that require me to grind money outside of a few treasure maps I hunted down... I even bought 4 horses from stables and still don't have money problems. I have paid plenty of bounties as well and still have plenty of money.
What is everyone buying with all this money?
Paying off my bounties trying to get the birds from a moving train lol. $835 just tonight in the almost 2 hours I've been playing.
-
gold glitch doesn't work anymore, at least on xbox, tried it yesterday to help pay off my 2 bounties (450 and 400) and could only get 2 bars. Didn't think it was really worth it so i reloaded my game before then and just took the 1 bar to pay off my $400 bounty in Strawberry, since my favorite hunting at hte moment is just north of Lake Owanjila (sp?).
I hunt and rob lonely people out in my hunting areas for cash. Before the gold bar i got yesterday i had just under 1500 cash. I think I had in the neighborhood of 1800 after the 100 profit of the gold bar and hunting/robbing last night before i shut down the game for bed.
train robbing gets you big bounties on your head, but last one i robbed got me just over 200 in cash and valuables pretty quickly. Going to try robbing stores tonight after work, see what i can score there, and how big of bounty i get

i've killed numerous moose at Lake Isabella, just to the south of it where the legendary horse spawns. Killed a perfect Bull while chasing the damn Legendary Bison. By the way, you can't kill the Bison with the Varmint Rifle. Shot him 5 times before i realized i had equipped the wrong rifle.🤫 I see a couple almost every time i go up to the lake there.
There's a fallen down shack to the west of the lake, i see them in the that area often if they're not around the lake.

huh. I found it extremely easy to get to Javier, no encounters along the way. Guess i was lucky
I got the missions for Javier and John to pop up at the same time. I did notice that John's mission is daytime only, if you go there at evening or night it's greyed out, maybe that's the case here with the OP?

I"ve played many games of dominos at Emerald Station. Wonder if this will be like some other games as to when i get the challenge for dominos it will be harder to play/win than it is now. I guess i should start working on the gambling challenges and see. My record at Emerald Station is 4 game wins in a row. That's full games not hands, or rounds, or whatever you call it in dominos, 3 hands/rounds/whatever in a row is my best and i still lost the dang game.
-
i've seen the kicker cards are only the highest card, not both cards, lost a few hands that way i thought i should have won.
Poker is something i play in the game when i'm in town and the table is full, easy way to make $20 bucks and breaks up the monotony that can build up while hunting and doing the other world activities (i'm only just starting chapter 3). I find more fun in the side games like poker, and blackjack, and even dominos, than trying to complete all the story missions and finish the game. I figure it will probably take me a couple months to get through all the story missions. Then i'll have to turn around and do it again as the hero to see what i missed this play through as the villian.

I spent HOURS hunting a Panther this weekend. I was finally starting to think I had to progress in the story to unlock it when it jumped me from behind.
Came back and spent several more hours trying to spot it. I gave in, dropped some bait, and hid behind a rock. Spotted him within 2 minutes...
The animals behave very realistically for the most part, so you have to treat them like you would IRL. You can just run into the woods and gun down everything you see. You have to be patient. Be selective on using the bait (no need for it when hunting deer) and stay quiet/walk slow.
agreed, i've used bait many times successfully. It attracts whatever type of animal (herbivore, etc.) is closest.
That's what i love about this game, they made is realistic as possible, the hunting is awesome, I've spent hours and hours just hunting. What i don't like about the hunting is the animals almost always return to a spot, their run away path is circular unless something else interferes, like a passing NPC on a horse that chases the animal down the road a ways.
@Theflash1 The marks on the map for the animals are just a general location, not an exact spot saying one will be there. They roam, they get chased off by NPC's passing by on horses or in carriages, they get chased by other animals, etc.
-
I tried to lasso it, drug me around a bit twice. So then i tried the walk slow and calm it approach. Don't mash your X button (on xbox) to calm it, you'll end up jumping toward it and make it run off, did that twice
It does take a few minutes doing the slow approach, but i think that's more fun that lasso it and be done with it.
It's easy to track. leaves a big trail in the snow, when the trail ends just look around in tracking mode and look for the glowing horse. For me it was never far from where the tracks ended.
I never saw a wolf attack it, first time i saw it i was running through the area to go fish for the legendary there. I didn't even know there was a legendary horse there at the time. Wolves were near it but never bothered it. I spooked the horse and the wolves chased me. Found that wolves will leave whatever they're chasing alone if they spot you, and come after you. Had this happen numerous times while hunting them for the perfect hides/carcass.

They'll show up for $15, those greedy pricks...
You definitely had to have shot up a town for that.
actually you don't. $455 is the highest bounty i've had, and it started with a train robbery (they thought i was robbing it while standing on top shoot at birds.... go figure.) I didn't wear my mask so after the train stopped and the mini-map went red, i said what the heck and robbed 2 of the train cars, killed all the law coming after me, then ran away. Just for that i had almost $200 on my bounty, don't recall the exact amount. I might have killed a passenger or 2 shooting at the law also, and they killed 2 for sure, wonder if that gets added onto your bounty if they kill them?
I ran away from there to go hunt cougar north of Lake Owanjila (sp?) just happened that was the same state the train stopped in, so i was killing bounty hunters every time i turned around, and then killing witnesses that saw me looting the bounty hunters. Doing that bumped my bounty up to $455. Only time i set foot in town was to sell stuff or buy more ammo.
After selling all my bounty hunter treasure, and skins while i was hunting, i made a few hundred bucks even after buying ammo. Not a bad way to make some money, gets frustrating thought having to stop what you're doing and kill the bounty hunters. I really didn't like the dogs they send in first, took me by surprise the first time and I died.
