Honestly, it all depends on what you're looking to do.

as far as your main objective, that's actually a setting in the PS4 system menu once you have a headset plugged in.  You can toggle between chat, or chat and system sounds (i.e. gameplay).  I paid $15 for a pair of cheap plastic over-ear headphones paried to a mic, but the bass and levels are all spot on--better than coming out of my soundbar, and it has the bonus of no ambient noise from the rest of the room/house.  Just the game sound and party chat.

As an added bonus, if you pump all the sound through the headset, the PS4 automatically cuts the audio feed to the television; sound only comes through the headphones, so you won't disturb anyone else.  It's been a lifesaver for me during late night sessions on The Division when I don't want explosions waking up everyone else in the house.

Given that you want others to hear both in game sound and party chat, what you may want to do is see if the PS4 has a setting for only the mic to be active too (I think it does, but I'm at work and unable to confirm).  You'd then have a Mic, with all sound coming from your TV speakers, including chat audio.

Thanks for your reply.  I plugged the crappy headset that I have into the PS4, and went through the settings.  Under 'Devices' I chose the output to TV/AV AMPLIFIER. However, in the Quick Menu, the only option I have is Chat Audio or All Audio.  This is where the problem is.  I can have either all the chat in my headset while the game sounds come out of the tv, or have both chat and game sounds coming through my headset.  Basically, I have to choose one of those options.  As far as adjusting the settings for only a mic, there is no option for that, which I can see.  I'm sure there is a way because I made a video of Resident Evil 7 with commentary and my wife was even sitting beside me jokingly arguing with me and all the game sounds and our comments came through really clear.  Anyhow, I definitely will have to learn how to switch it all back to everything coming through the headset as I am starting a 2nd shift job next week and need to be quiet while gaming at night.  I'm going to do some experimenting and see if I can figure out the settings.  I'll let you know if I figure it out or have to patch a hole in my wall lol Again, thanks for the info!

  2. My big thing is people not knowing where I am.  It is unrealistic anyhow, at least for that era.  In addition, I wish they'd stop with the big 'heat score' logo hovering above my head.  In fact, I think it would be awesome  to walk through a town, or ride past someone and not even be able to tell if that is an NPC or not.  Would make it more intense as you would have to really be on guard.  I agree that having the option to be a bounty hunter/lawman would be super cool.  Camping has ruined so much game play for me in the past.  I think this game will have a much better online experience than RDRO.

ALSO: I apologize for the previous post that I messed up.... I just woke up and  blood is not flowing to my brain yet lol

I have a feeling they will be toning down that element in RDR2.  As it is, I believe it's already been leaked that players will not have knowledge of where everyone is on the map like they do in GTAV (based on proximity rather).  I wouldn't mind PvP.  Actually, I think it would be cool if some players could assume the role of law enforcement or bounty hunters, giving other players the option whether to engage in behaviour that would open them up to PvP encounters.

  4. There are really only a few things I can think of, and they're really just 'features'. I hate the logo above your head when you're trying to hide from someone. Have the option to take it or leave it. This is why I always played HC mode on RDRO.  I would also like to have the option to not appear on the map. I can't even start to think of how many times I've been snipered by cowards while clearing a gang hideout. They snipe you and then leave the session. Besides, in that era, people could not just open a map and see who's where.  Also, in RDR if you shoot an NPC, if there are witnesses, you most likely will have the law on you, plus a bounty. So, how come there's no bounty on you for shooting an online player? Should the law not pursue them too?

  5. Ok so in celebration of the big day in October, I've decided to treat myself to a descent mic/headset for my PS4.  I have a standard $25 Sony mic/headset for my PS4.  I don't know much about them as I've never dropped any real amount of money on a good mic/headset.  I want to spend around $100.  I have been looking around some of the Turtle Beach units as I heard they are pretty good.  Basically, my wife loves to sit and watch me while I'm gaming.  The problem is, is that she can't hear what other people are saying to me. I also have buddies come over and hang out too.  I think my main objective is to be able to hear the game AND what people are saying to me through the TV.  * I'm not concerned with my voice coming through the tv.)  So, I am guessing that I would need one that hooks up to the tv?  Any help will be appreciated!

Same here. I watch the Cowboys during football season on my digital antenna, then mostly watch Netflix and recordings on Philo in my downtime. (Well, not as much nowadays since I've started the RDR single-player campaign over again. I beat it in 2010, and am trying again now eight years later to re-sharpen my skills for the October release. Even though I probably won't get it until Christmas!)

I am a Giants fan so I stream their games as I only have a cheap, cruddy cable package lol I have multiple consoles to keep me busy and I'd rather do some gaming in my spare time rather than flip through the channels.  Once Oct. 26th hits I won't even care about the tv, except for hockey.  I finished RDR probably 5 or 6 times now, most recently about 2 months ago.  I still play online a little, but there's still a lot of glitches.  Like I show up at Warthington Ranch and as soon as I set foot on the hideout, it says it's complete.  Makes leveling up easy, but it's kinda pointless lol

Reality TV and talk shows have to be the worst. Next to those are try hard comedy "talk shows" that try to take jabs at only one political side. I really gave up on most television like 5 years ago. Have not missed it.

Ironically I don't find too much realism in reality shows.  Most of them are scripted and the people really pour it on to make the show.    I don't watch a whole lot either.  News and hockey, that's about it.  I stream stuff on Hulu and Netflix mostly.

I couldn't help but notice your Avatar.

. . . what are your thoughts on John Carpenter's newest Halloween venture? Taking the reins back from Rob Zombie, and such?

I'm super excited about it! John Carpenter was the original creator of the Halloween series, and I think that his direction will be a major factor in this film succeeding! I wish they'd bring back Nick Castle or Dick Warlock to play Myers, but I will settle for at least just using the original mask. I love Zombie's music but his movies are terrible, imo. He butchered Halloween, (pardon the pun), and I won't even have it in my collection. Why does The Shape (Myers' nickname among cult followers), have a purse with a strap, a hoodie, and what's with that dumb mythical horse? What's next? Maybe one of those figdet gadget things you can buy at Speedway? lmao Yeah, I'm excited to say the least....now, if we could get Rock* to make a Halloween video game, THAT WOULD BE AMAZING!!

The format of most American TV shows.

Open with 5 minutes of recap from last show.
Then 5 minutes of spoilers for this show.
Then 5 minutes of actual footage.
    5 minute commercial break
    5 minutes of recap
    5 minutes of spoilers
    5 minutes of footage
    5 minute commerical break
    5 minutes of recap
    10 minutes of footage.
5 minutes of "next week on..."

Ok, I LITERALLY almost said word for word EVERYTHING you just said last night watching Shark Week!!!! My wife would say "Hey, it's back on!", and I was always like "Meh, I have a few minutes, I just saw that crap 10 minutes ago!"  I literally got up at the break, had a shower, and came back at the END of the 're-cap'....didn't miss a thing! I think I will time how much of the show is not commercials, re-caps, and coming up segments tonight.

Never knew that - this is true?

According to the Playstation Network support page it is.   Just search for  'How to Pre-Order and Automatically Download Games'...You can download it 2 days before the release date, you just can't actually play it until that date.  Soooo, if this is true, I can see me starting at 12:01am on the 26th of October! (Not sure if this is the case with XBOX or not....I'm a PS4 guy)

  11. I just find that the quality of tv shows has really dropped in recent years.  I can't stand any talk shows that are trashy, like Steve Wilkos, Maury, those kind of shows.  One person tells their side, and without hearing the other person's side, the audience automatically 'boo's' them as they're walking out.  And then of course Steve Wilkos tries to intimidate them and act like a tough guy.  Talk shows are fine like Dr. Phil, and Steve Harvey, but the really dramatic 'over the top' ones really annoy me.   Also, shows like Judge Judy who I find unprofessional and rude, I find really annoying.  I've been to court so many times and have never once heard a judge be even half as ignorant as her.  I know loan sharks that are more polite than her!

  12. I clicked option 2, as I am taking the Friday off and more than likely will have a bad headache and stomach ache on the Monday.  However, I am not sure if I want a digital copy or hard copy yet.  I think I will more than likely go digital, so I can play it asap.  One thing I like about a digital copy is it is pre-downloaded and installed before the release date.  I want to start playing the second it is available! Don't wanna be coming home @ 10:am and having to install and everything.

Homemade chicken wings beat out most restaurant ones. I do enjoy some places but when you can do it yourself, you can adjust everything to your own taste and it tends to be cheaper. I make some now and then in bulk and freeze um.

I agree there are some descent places around for wings, but value wise it's clearly better to make them at home.  I do like the atmosphere now and then of being at a bar and grill style of restaurant, watching the game and having a few beers with my overpriced wings lol I don't mind paying a little more when you're out with friends watching a game or something

I'm ok with a later release of RDR2:O as I usually prefer to play the campaign first.  ......but on the other hand, unlike past R* games, I'm coming into this one with good, co-op friends I didn't have with past titles.  Given that, I guess I also wouldn't mind a same day release.  ;)

I guess the main point here is that I won't be heartbroken if it is delayed a bit.

Yeah, I'm definitely going to dive into multiplayer with RDR2 more than I did GTAV.  I found it easier to find people to play with in RDR MP.  With GTAV I didn't have a whole lot of people to play with but never had a problem with that for RDR.  GTAV was fun but I constantly had situations where 3 or 4 guys would just stand across the street from my apt with bazookas waiting for me to come out.  You can't do that on RDR Hardcore.  RDR was a much more enjoyable multiplayer experience in my opinion.

You definitely can. I plugged in a 1tb hard drive, but it said I had to reformat it. Never got around to doing that, but I'll look into it this weekend if I remember.

    Good shit! Keep us posted!

Edit: It's always nice when the useless information you've acquired actually helps someone loland my PS4 is up and running , and currently re-d

So it took me a grand total of one hour!  (Would have been faster, but I had to dig out a USB drive, a screwdriver and the new HDD) Everything went as smooth as it possibly could, and the bonus is that the HDD I put in was a 1TB, so I doubled my hard drive space!  So far so good, apps and games are re-downloading atm.  Time will tell if it was really a hard drive problem or not.   If it works for 5 or  days straight without having to remaster everything again, I'll be convinced.  Either way, I learned how to do something I assumed would be difficult, but was incredibly simple.  Thanks a million!

Grand Theft Auto V was the first Rockstar title where there was a gap between the initial release of the game and it's multiplayer component, I don't know whether they'll do the same for Red Dead Redemption II.

With GTA V, the gap insured people were familiar with the controls, map and mechanics before they played with others. It also might have been done to provide time to make changes and fixes for GTA Online even though GTA Online was a mess at launch anyway.

One of the problems with releasing GTA Online later was that everyone jumped on at the same time, when you release SP and MP side by side your gonna have some people go straight to SP and some people go straight to MP meaning there's less stress on MP. Hopefully Rockstar realize this and release them side by side.

Thanks for your help.  For reasons you stated about GTA, I personally will finish the story line first, for those exact purposes.  While I'm doing that, multiplayer is not going anywhere, and there will be years of it to come anyhow.

@Jackthestripper I remember the hard drive being much easier to replace on the ps4 vs the xbox. You also don't have to void the warranty to replace it (if I remember correctly).

    Teardown Video

    Repair Guides

You could probably also try just using an external hard drive, but I'm not entirely sure.

Wow,  I just watched the video and it's super easy.  I have a spare HDD that will fit and already started downloading the latest firmware, so hopefully this afternoon I will basically have a new PS4!  Sony told me for $100 I could ship it to them and they would replace it, but this is much cheaper.  Thanks again for the info!

  18. 16 hours ago, Truth said:

@Jackthestripper Look up a teardown video (ifixit). These new consoles are pretty simple to swap parts out. If you know what's defective, you can order the parts directly from them and use the videos to repair it yourself. Might be worth a shot rather than buying a whole new console.

Thanks so much for the info.  I will definitely look into that.  Always good to save a few bucks! Not entirely sure what it is, but I think it's more than likely a faulty hard drive.  It boots up great and works one day, then the next day it boots into safe mode telling me I have to remaster the hard drive.  And usually that means re-downloading any digital copies of games I had.  Gets to be time consuming for sure.  Sony have guided me through this about 5 or 6 times, usually with a different answer each time as to why it is doing this.  In any case, I'll look into what you recommended and thanks again!

  19. I have been loyal to Playstation for a long time.  Nothing against Xbox, except that I don't like the offset analog sticks.  I know I could probably buy a descent generic one or something that is compatible, but think I will stick with PS for now.  Even though after approximately 2 yrs of owning my PS4 it is completely dead and only good for parts.  I was fuming for awhile but cooled off in recent weeks and think that another PS4 is what I'll buy, probably a week before RDR2 is released.  If the next one craps out on me with no mercy from Sony again though, it'll be the last Sony product I'll ever buy.   I do play a lot of Nintendo as well, but only the 8-Bit original NES.

  20. Every Friday I go to the local Meijer grocery store and get a pack of these super huge chicken wings.  I make my own batter with my own spices, drop them in my fryer, and sauce them up.  Better than any restaurant I've ever had them at, and they are super huge.   Wings in restaurants are usually puny and expensive.  I am a sucker for a big t-bone steak too.  That's usually Saturdays, mainly in the winter, right before hockey comes on.  Also, beer. lol

  21. I don't really have any 'fears' (except my wife getting upset I am playing too much lol)  I am not worried that the game will be disappointing, I think it will be really awesome.  I worry about little things that will be more or less annoying than anything.  Like horses....I hate in RDR when I whistle for my steed, and when I run over to get on it, it starts galloping until I get like 2 feet behind it, and then it takes off again. Also, I'm hoping they keep the 3 options of multiplayer. (Friendly, Normal, and Hardcore.)  I always play hardcore because you don't have that stupid neon logo over your head, which sucks when someone is tracking you or following you....makes it kind of unrealistic and difficult to hide when there's a bright colored star above your head.  Other than that, I have no fears.
