  1. RED DEAD ONLINE BETA UPDATE

NEW EVANS REPEATER RIFLE, FOOL’S GOLD FREE ROAM EVENT AND MORE

Last week we implemented our first round of significant updates to the Red Dead Online Beta including new gameplay systems, experience balancing and over 300 bug fixes, another step on the road to building out what this world will become. This beta period allows us to shape and improve the fundamentals of that world before the journey of Red Dead Online truly begins. As Red Dead Online evolves, we will keep adding and improving features to give you a deeper connection to the world, your character, your horse and your weapons, as well as adding new gameplay that will help players carve out their own fate across the lawless frontier.

Here’s a look at two new additions launching today, including the return of a powerful weapon from the original Red Dead Redemption, and a frantic new addition to the list of Free Roam Events to experience as you move across the world. In addition, everyone will also get a package of useful items for playing this week.

    New Weapon: Evans Repeater
The Evans Repeater is a powerful long-range rifle that’s known for being in John Marston’s arsenal during the events of Red Dead Redemption. The Evans Repeater has a high bullet capacity and is deadly at medium and long distances, with an especially high rate of fire. It also has customization options like Stocks, Sights and Wraps – to make this an essential part of your character’s weapon inventory. You can pick one up now directly from the Rawson, Wheeler & Co catalogue or at any Gunsmith.

You always need to be prepared to go out in a blaze of glory, but a little armor can delay the inevitable. This is the idea behind the Fool’s Gold Free Roam event. Fool’s Gold is the latest addition to the rotating roster of Free Roam Events, a selection of special competitive game types that periodically invite you to participate as you roam across the world of the Red Dead Online Beta. When you opt-into a Free Roam Event you’ll automatically join the event location before it begins. Like all Free Roam events, Fool’s Gold is a quick and easy way to jump into some fun competition and rack up a little extra XP and cash. It’s also a great way to quickly complete weapon, kill or combat-related Daily Challenges without attacking players in an open session.

In Fool’s Gold, you will battle other players to wear the Golden Armor, taking down opponents while wearing it to earn points. You can also score points by taking out a rival player that’s wearing the Golden Armor, which then puts the armor up for grabs to whoever reaches it first.

In addition to Fool’s Gold, there are a range of other Free Roam Events regularly taking place across the five states in the Red Dead Online Beta:

    • Cold Dead Hands: Fight for control over a target for the longest amount of time.
    • Competitive Challenges: Compete to get the highest score in a given, randomly-selected challenge within a set time limit (currently includes Bow, Headshot, Horseback, Longarm, and Sidearm Kill Challenges).
    • Dispatch Rider: Posses compete to be the first to deliver a horse to the assigned destination.
    • King of the Castle: Compete to gain and maintain control of the castle area by staying alive inside of it - whoever controls the active area for the highest percentage of the event time wins.
    • Master Archer: Compete to score the most points by hitting the most targets as accurately as you can within the time limit.

Like all Free Roam Events in the Red Dead Online Beta, Fool’s Gold can be played as individual free-for-alls or as skirmishes between Posses. To join Fool’s Gold, look for an alert to pop-up on screen while in Free Roam and then accept the invite. If a Posse leader accepts an invite to Fool’s Gold (or any other Red Dead Online Beta Free Roam Event) then their Posse members will automatically join the event with the posse leader. As the Red Dead Online Beta continues and we gain more data and feedback from players, we will continue to add new Free Roam events and a lot more.

    New Care Package
We appreciate all the support you’ve shown thus far during the beta period, and this week all Red Dead Online Beta participants will receive a special care package (redeemed either at your camp’s lockbox or at any post office across the five states) as a show of our appreciation. This includes a host of items to help you survive life on the frontier and tackle any new Daily Challenges in Free Roam or Free Roam Events, on mission or in a Showdown Series:

    • 60x High Velocity Pistol Ammo
    • 60x High Velocity Repeater Ammo
    • 2x Fire Bottles
    • 8x Fire Arrows
    • 2x Jolly Jack’s
    • 2x Potent Horse Medicine
    • 1x Lake Lure

    66aca1e18a22d1c1dd794d5a9bc284290e5170f7

As an added bonus, anyone who completes five Daily Challenges at any point between now and March 11 will be gifted one Special Spinner next week. The Special Spinner is a handy lure to catch fish of all sizes that cannot be lost if you ever cut the line.

Please do continue sending us your feedback about all the latest updates to the Red Dead Online Beta by submitting it by category via the official Feedback website – let us know what you think about Free Roam Events including the newly added Fool’s Gold, about the Evans Repeater and weaponry in general, and any or all other aspects of the Red Dead Online Beta.

Stay tuned for a raft of updates big and small including gameplay like the Fishing Challenge, new Showdown Modes, and Target Races – along with new weekly bonuses and a lot more.

lol they nerfed hunting entirely. You dont just make animals have a lower spawn rate and then make the most profitable birds (the best way to make money in hunting) only give one feather regardless of quality.

I've said it before but the spawn rate of animals in sessions I and my friends have played after the update haven't changed.  They are still plentiful.

Now, I'm not saying some are not experiencing drops in these rates, but it's not because R* purposely reduced them otherwise we would all be having the same problem.

Oh I know it's been the other way around, I'm just talking from personal experience. I've never died to an assassination so I can't say what people do sorta. Except that they do sometimes try to kill me BECAUSE they couldn't catch me.

Or once, I've had a whole posse get mad cuz they lost (they were the targets) and then call in 5 more friends (making it 11 vs 4) to gang up on us even though we were trying to start another mission and get on with ourselves. Had to switch sessions cuz they had us boxed in.

Yeah, I think the activity itself is rather toxic.  Forcing players into mission they may not have wanted, etc.  I do like the idea of players who have bounties to be targets for other players however.  ....but again, if they could iron out the problem with bounties for those who defend themselves.

Oh yea, i remember you telling me im wasting my time posting here, Thanks and i did, more than enough other games to play.

Sorry, but I never said anything of the sort.  What i did say back then:

If you guys really want to help effect change, submit your feedback to R*.   Provide them with the details of your experience with the gold bar system.

I suspect it's an oversight if it is occurring as some describe and not intentional deceit but then again, some will automatically assume the worst regardless.

As I said, no one here is trying to chase you off Smurf especially me.  You're more than welcome to stay if you like.  We're more than happy to have you here.  It's your choice.

If not in the mood, just ride away from assassin until timer is over. They rarely give it the effort.

It's funny.  I've only had one group quit.  All the rest, regardless of the distance, have pursued me.  I think to myself that they must know that there is no chance in hell that they'll catch me but they keep coming.  It is easy XP though.

I've been wondering why 9 times out of 10 whenever my posse and I do player/posse assassinations, that after we kill them they are super butt hurt and end up following us around trying to kill us. Like we don't keep killing them after the mission ended, once and then we move on to another mission. People acting like it's personal or we actually chose them when it's completely random.

Kinda wondering if others have this same experience or those that have been the target and lost and how they feel about it.

In all fairness, it also goes the other way.  I've had pursuers who would not stop after I escaped or after I killed them several times while waiting for the timer to run out.

Personally, I believe I only accepted one assassination mission that I ever set out to complete but I prefer not to do them.  As far as being the target, nearly every time I get one the player(s) are far enough away to give me plenty of time to escape.  IMO, they are annoying 1/2 the time as I'm usually in the middle of doing something else or on my way to.  ....and then I have to travel all the way back afterward.

R* said that players who have been tagged using the new blip mechanic would be the likely target of such activities but I caught an assassination attempt while there were red dots in the same session.  Personally, I think the activity should choose those of less honorable status regardless.  ....if they can get the whole self defense thing worked out.

That's a fair assessment, I'd say.  Most of the changes have been to some of the core mechanics to increase the value of tactics in the phrase "tactical shooter", and it's going to be interesting how endgame builds develop once players progress to that point.

....and those changes have had a big impact on the gameplay.  The damage model has forced players to utilize cover and tactics.  It's way more fun in that aspect IMO.  Well placed shots will also take down enemies that once would have required several magazines.

I would say the game feels familiar but not necessarily the same.

What I have been noticing are some folks who loved TD1 but don't like the changes in TD2.  .....nothing new there  but then there are a lot of folks who (like me) welcome many of the changes and additions they have made.

I have no doubt TD2 will succeed for Ubi regardless of its detractors.  .....pick any title and it's the same story.  I thought FC5 was a hot mess as well as all my friends (it actually killed the franchise for me) but I still knew it would be a success in terms of sales.

Who says that is all anyone wants to do? Perhaps we want to level up, hunt, fish, pick herbs and kill NPCsin free roam (without di*ks killing us mid animation or a millisecond after leaving a cutscene, or sniped when trying to go to the shop etc) so we have money and experience when we choose to enter structured PVP events such as showdown modes, or free roam missions, or other times when there is an actual reason to enter into combat with other players and everyone is in on the pending gunfight...

  9. The only reason I never finished the main story is because RDO released before I got to that point.  I'll wager many were in the same boat.  I will finish it one day but all of the other analysis in this story is pure assumption IMO.

Personally, I think a lot of these "Debbie Downer" perspectives in articles about RDR2/RDO, YT videos, etc. are more about aggrandizing or sensationalizing issues rather than looking at them objectively.  ......but I guess that would be boring and not really newsworthy to some.

So when I first got the update I noticed that all my outfits were gone... So I went and bought new stuff and made all new outfits and save them I had three outfits saved... Then when I login the next time the only one I have is the one I'm wearing the other ones are gone and a lot of the clothing that I bought was gone... I spent a lot of money and time to get those outfits and they're just gone! Does anybody else have this issue?

I noticed my saved outfits were gone but I still had everything I bought and could access it through my camp.  I re-saved my outfits and everything was fine.  However, the bug is there where the game will not remember what I was alst wearing so I still have the crappy outfit I started with.  I then have to changed my outfit at the start of each session on my horse.

If you have lost stuff you bought (especially with gold), make sure you submit a trouble ticket with R* and include details:

I bet you the number is pretty low...at least the number of well articulated suggestions.

If R* is only relying on comments on their website, they might want to re-think their strategy.  They need people to be scouring the internet (reddit and fan sites)  looking for common complaints and recommendations. They did not need to set up that feedback system as a much better one already exists.  I would scrap the feedback system and simply spend the time on the internet.  There's a ton of brutally honest opinions right at the very fingertips.

Believe me. They have employees who are responsible for monitoring social media sites like Reddit, Twitter, fan forums, etc. and not just what is gathered on their feedback website. Many companies do this although not all will openly interact with consumers on them.

They are also looking at gameplay data and other sources of information. .....but then they also have their own experience and goals in mind for the game that drive some of their decisions.

Maybe that is the best way to drive the point home to R* is a mass exodus until they fix this s##t show. I know I am.  TD2 is looking like a good place to land for me.

Gonna have to go back and finish that mission tonight. .....so close.

    How is it btw?

IMO, same as the Division 1 but improved. I liked the first one but wasn't a fan if the RPG nature of the damage mechanics. I liked GRW way better in that regard. TD2 is less spongy.

As for RDO, I still like the game but as I have said many times before, there may be times I shelve the game for a bit to shift priorities, etc. I will still play and I know there is a lot more to come, changes to be made, new options, content, etc. Personally, I don't but into any of this "fail" talk of late. Even if I eventually move on, I still believe R* will adjust accordingly,  keep this game going and make it grow.

Seems like just about the same amount of people even if they did increase the capacity to 40? There were always at least 20-28 on the sessions and seems to be about the same.

Did they increase it? I thought it was always capped at about 24.  Didn't hear about an increase

Kewl @Kean_1.. good to know. I wouldn’t have been bent out of shape if someone had deleted it. It amounted to an “I wish I could play” thread and I get if a mod would rather have a few less of those cluttering up the place.  :)

Naw, we don't delete stuff unless it's against the rules (e.g. spam, rude/insulting post, etc.). .....or it gets moved to a more appropriate sub forum.

As I mentioned in a post here yesterday (disappeared, unsure why, but not really important).....

Funny, I was just thinking the same thing about another thread I read early this morning and then went to look for and couldn't find.  It was not deleted by any of us (I checked). Didn't see anything recently deleted at all including your missing topic.

Last update just made me feel like hanging hat up, Im losing much more than i can make now with the little in game content and constant glitches and ALERTS, this game is starting to turn into a joke on the net when it used to be the next big thing. Are you trying to make me leave? Because your not trying to make me stay.

Are we trying to make you leave?  No, not that I know of.  ....but then again RDR2.org is a fan site which isn't affiliated with R* or 2K.

I think I told you this back in December when you accused R* of fraud, but if you want your opinion of R* or RDR2/RDO to be heard by them, I would suggest using their website:

    https://www.rockstargames.com/reddeadredemption2/online/feedback?step=f2e50892

Alternatively, if you want to hang your hat up in relation to the game, then hang your hat up.

They should never have nerfed hunting until they fix this despawning issue. I'm aware of that if trying to kill multiple animals, I should have them killed as close each other as I can, yet even though I do this they will despawn......

    Well, there's two things here.

First, the hunting economy.  Personally, aside from price adjustment on harvested carcasses, I personally haven't seen any "nerfs",  In fact, with the fix to missing payouts for some pelt I was experiencing I'm actually getting a little more money as I haven't noticed any price or qty reductions on the harvested materials.  I find hunting about as lucrative as it was before with the exception of the Lemoyne area where apparently the amount of plumes had been reduced from 3 to 1 on one of the more valuable birds.  Flocks and herds also spawn all over for me as well as my friends.  My hunting grounds have been as fruitful as they have been in the weeks past.  .....but again, if you're finding a noticeable decrease in animals appearing in the game after the update, I would report it.

As for despawns, I have a feeling this is more about game design limitations than something that can be "fixed" like a bug.  Even live animals and NPCs will disappear at times when outside of a particular range.

  19. I agree with @Xped. I don't get what you mean by cost.

I know some challenges will have do things that seem like a waste of resources, etc. but as he said, you don't have to do them all.  I don't do the player kill challenges for example.  I don't want the bounty on my head and the associated cost / hassle but I also don't like the idea of randomly killing unsuspecting players to fulfill a challenge.

However, even with any related cost to you, there is a payout in gold nuggets and a healthy amount of XP as mentioned.  IIRC, there is also some small amount of cash, no?
