  1. ^^^^  What Krow said....

Here are the latest details in the update from R* as to what some of those anti-griefing measures will include:

    Quote
    • Law and Bounty Upgrades: Some changes are coming to the way the Law and Bounty systems work in Red Dead Online to reduce the enticements for griefing. Soon, players will get a bounty for committing crimes and will be incentivized to pay them off within an allotted time. Wait too long and bounty hunters from each of the states will track the player forcing them to either pay up or escape.
    • Parley Changes: We’re making the Parley system easier to trigger so that you can avoid aggressive players more quickly. In addition, it will be easier to trigger Feuds, Posse Feuds and Leader Feuds to take on attacking players in structured competition.
    • Proximity-Based Player Blips: Player location blips will soon appear only over short distances, reducing the range at which you are visible to others, decreasing the likelihood of being targeted by another player across large areas. Down the line, we’re also looking to introduce the ability to identify players who grief and kill indiscriminately with a progressively darkening blip that becomes more visible and at a longer range, so everyone in a session can identify potentially dangerous opponents at a glance and from a safe distance.

Ya know what ,I think I did see a trailer for this. Isn't there something stuck in your side  when you wake up from the crash? I gotta you tube this and blow the dust off of my steam account.

No. You wake up in a portion of the plane that broke off from the rest.   You collect what you can in the plane and then outside with the luggage.

The trailer may have shown something different though.  .....you know how that goes sometimes.

Never even heard of it. PC or consoles?  I was straight-up addicted to ARK, just wish it was more in depth with the survival aspect of the game.

Console....  If I were still gaming on PC I would be playing SCUM and probably dabbling in DayZ (along with all of the milsim titles we will never get like Squad, ARMA, etc.).  ....also Insurgency which (luckily) is coming to console this year with their newest iteration Insurgency Sandstorm.

The Forest was a PC game that was launched on PS4 last November IIRC.  It's not on XB1 so if that's your platform it may be why you've never heard of it.  .....although there are a lot of folks on PS4 that never heard of it either.  Only by word of mouth.

You're in a plane crash where you find yourself on an island.  There are a lot of the same kind of ARK mechanics in this game.  You chop down trees to gather logs to build structures.  ....stones, sticks, leaves, sap, etc.  You have to find drinkable water that requires being boiled or you can catch rain water by using a turtle shell from one that you catch.  You craft weapons and improve them (spears, bows, clubs, slingshot, etc.).  You hunt animals for meat that you can cook or dry.  .....skins to craft, etc.

The kicker is that after the first day or so, you realize you're not alone.  The island is inhabited by cannibals.  Once you have your first encounter, you begin to realize the small shelter you built may not be enough so you get started on building a fort, walls with fire pits, torches, water collection, etc.   A place where you can collect and store resources and be a home base as you explore.

It doesn't end with the cannibals as you also will encounter mutants as the game progresses.  The sounds and atmosphere make the whole experience very creepy.  I've been playing for a while and still get startled when you hear distant yells, footsteps and rustling.

I'm just comparing it to GTA5.  6 years old and it's still going strong online.   I've been playing since launch, you? lol

Same here......   I actually owned the game on PS3 and bought it again on PS4.  I still log on from time to time to run businesses and check out new content.

Whether you like it, hate it or are indifferent to it, the fact is that GTAVO has been wildly successful and continues to be.  I recall all the detractors saying that game would die too.

R* hasn't abandoned PvE in RDO simply because PvP content was their first priority for the year.  They have already announced new challenges coming soon as well as changes to Free Roam (to address the griefer issues) and "lots of new content that we will be releasing this year" (which includes PvE).

Oh believe me, I know it. I had so many support tickets with Wildcard studios when I played ARK that they gave me a level 175 quetz as a thank you when the max animal level was 150. I bred that thing with the whole server.

Have you played the Forest?  Best $19 I've spent on a game in a while.  Something about those survival / build games....

I think they are trying to give the PVPrs something else to do beside  kill people in free roam. A little grief relief until they add the other stuff.

Hadn't thought of it that way but that makes sense.   Of course, those looking for easy kills will still prefer Free Roam, but more PvP activities may lure them away from the rest of us.

Only a battle royal added as content...sad really, they should at  least address all the issues players are having before adding more PvP content. You need pve content/freeroam content to keep this game alive.

Other great games are coming soon and if they don't fix this, people will migrate to other titles.

On the other hand, we don't know the numbers or the feedback they have been receiving.  PvP events could be one of those things a lot of the RDO community are playing more of than Free Roam and perhaps have been asking for more content.

I get it....  I'm a PvEer too and would like to see more missions, side quests, PvE mechanics and content.  ....and that's coming.  If I have to shelve RDO at some point, I will.  I still play GTAVO after all this time as new businesses become available, etc.  I don't believe RDO will any different for me as a title that I come back to from time to time.

I would encourage people to let their opinion be known by submitting their feedback on R*'s website.  I've submitted all of my suggestions and complaints I've had here over there as well:

No,  I put that I thought they were cheating in my  submission. The response read very much like a template. I didn't even think to respond,. I was pretty annoyed with the blow off email. I will check later though.

It's scripted.  Not unusual for any sort of customer service.  A lot of times it's just easier for them to cut and paste the best answer to the problem than to type out a new and different response each time for essentially the same solution.

I only mention replying if you're not satisfied so they know that this doesn't resolve it for you.  At least it's on record and who knows, maybe they'll investigate further.

Either way, seems the whole parley system is getting a bit of a overhaul in the near future so maybe that will fix whatever this was.

They did wish me best regards though, so there's that.

So they suspect the other team was cheating then?  You know you have the option to reply back, right?  They also send you an email to ask if the issue is settled or not. Let them know what you think if you're not satisfied with the answer.

As a former Division player, I love the idea of standalone modes like this to change it up a bit.  Even the most ardent PvE player gets the occasional itch to try out something new, and having a limited scope application like this is going to be good for the game's longevity.

I played a few of the PvP events last night with a friend (his choice).  I have to admit that while PvP in this game really doesn't appeal to me because of the gunfighting mechanics (e.g. auto aim, rolling around, etc.), there were a couple PvP modes I found pretty fun.  The "capture the flag" style mode was one of them and the "Most Wanted".  .....depending on the map.

I just wish there was a way to choose the mode you want instead of the way it cycles through modes / maps randomly.

I tend to like the co-op / team play modes more but again, this game turns into a free for all in most cases as its really difficult to coordinate any kind of tactic other than what's happening in the immediate vicinity.  Other downsides is that in some modes you use your own ammo and resources.  Also, there is no balance in player abilities / experience.

Last night there was a player who was level 140+ who was unstoppable.  One shot head shots and when you tried to shoot him he went into this perfectly choreograph of rolls and instant, precise head shots.   .....not my idea of fun PvP play.  IMO, auto aim and the dive/roll feature completely ruins the experience and looks downright silly.

For me, I'm just waiting for Insurgency Sandstorm to release on console to get my PvP fix.  No markers, lethal TTK, the ability to use real tactics, etc.  RDO is more about the Free Roam / PvE for me.

  12. I'm a little leary about the proximity blips.  I wasn't too sure about them before but definitely not sure about them now.  I like that griefers will have a disadvantage by having their blip gradually change color and range but now players won't know if a town is infested with other players until they get there.  Curious as to the range.

As it is now, I simply avoid populated areas when solo and trying to play missions like wagon retrievals, mail deliveries and similar where you are exposed to potential threat from other players.

Griefers and kill squads could also have the advantage of being cloaked until they find a target rich environment as they rove around the map.  I guess I'll have to see how this works before I pass judgement though.  This may end up killing the advantage the phone app has been giving me to avoid them.

Not all pvp is toxic like people make it out to be.

Yes, it is IME.  Wagon retrievals, etc.  Any PvPer who has participated in trying to stop me has always stuck around to kill us over and over again instead of vacating the area after the mission.  One group actually followed us to another session.  I don't know how, but there they were griefing us all over again.

As far as everyone else in the session, I would agree.  They are typically not toxic as they don't really care to ruin your fun.

I don't blame people for participating in missions as the game encourages it (I think they should save that for specific PvP events, but ok).  However, I also believe it encourages toxicity and griefing on unwilling participants.

  14. Submit the incident to R* through their Support as a Bug / Technical issue.  You can get to it from their feedback site but here's a direct link:

    https://support.rockstargames.com/categories/115001624507?redirect_lang=en_us&_ga=2.230675868.1434278383.1547147164-1719606522.1525287356

Someone will respond rather quickly in most cases although their answer may be that they will simply send it up the food chain.  They will let you know if it's a known issue or not though.

@Kean_1 there is already a griefer measure in place. If you "report" the player, Rockstar asks what type (of 4)  activity occurred and specifically, in writing, mentions griefing,  regards it as offensive behavior for disrupting the normal gameplay of others.

Yeah, I know.  ......which is why I suggested folks us the report feature.

However, the anti griefing measures I speak of are what R* have announced will be implemented in a future update since they acknowledged the issue.

Reporting players is fine but griefing is still an issue they have received many complaints about and I for one am glad they are looking to add something to the gameplay to address it.

Does anyone no when we are getting a new DLC on RDR2 online? i getting pretty sick of hunting now...

No one knows any anything else is pure speculation right now.  Knowing R*'s usual 11th hour news about such things, it could come tomorrow, next week, next month or.....

The only thing we know for sure right now is that anti-griefing measures are in the works.

Personally, I can't see them leaving RDO untouched for too long.  We are however into the first solid week after the holidays so I suspect some news will be coming our way soon.

If you really want the latest news as it hits then follow RockstarINTEL, Rockstar Games and similar on Twitter.  That's where I go everyday to see if there are any updates.

I guess I should have clarified that it was from a monetary standpoint, I do enjoy clearing them and I wil admit I don't pay much attention to xp. It's just that we need other ways to earn money besides having to kill every single animal in the game.

......and we will as more components are added to this beta and then final release.

When playing with crew posse, we encounter this pretty much daily up to the point when one of us contacted Rockstar about it. According to their reply, they are aware of the issue.

I would certainly suggest everyone affected submit their feedback since the more that do, the more the problem will reveal itself to be as big as it is.

  19. Below is exactly what they said on the subject.  The first quote is what they originally stated and then the second is a follow up to help quell fears of a reset:

    Quote

We hope that all player progress during this early period of the Beta will be able to remain intact long term, however as with many betas for large scale online experiences such as this, there is always the chance that we may need to implement rank or other stat resets in case of issues.

    Quote

We appreciate all the continued feedback we are receiving on the Red Dead Online Beta. For players concerned about the potential for progress and stat resets, we currently do not have any plans to reset them as part of the Beta’s rollout.

    https://www.rockstargames.com/newswire/tags/716?page=2

The fact is that they never promised not to reset progress but they are also trying to avoid it if possible.  Bottom line is they don't plan on it but it is still a possibility depending on what needs to be fixed/changed in the beta.

They should remove the player assassinations.  It pays nothing and just bothers players for no reason.,

    ^^^^^  ....this.

I have only done two and been the target of one.  One of our posse was targeted and we simply escaped.  When I was the hunter, the first one resulted in the target coming after us after the time limit was up even though we disengaged (we never killed him in time).  The second, we disengaged after killing the target but then they started coming after us after the event.

This mission type breeds toxicity IMO / IME.  It's not even worth it unless you're a troll looking for an excuse to grief other players.  I simply don't do them when they pop up.  However, I do enjoy the NPC assassinations where you have multiple targets, etc.

I am enjoying them and some are even challenging. It's fun to do, a change from running missions and you can even boost honor with it, when not shooting their boss. My favorites are: The Loft, Shady Bell and Bacchus Station.

I've become really effective with the Long Block rifle so I like to find high ground whenever possible providing overwatch for my mates.  .....lots of fun.

Gang hideout missions are not worth doing as they stand as treasure maps are almost non-existent. As an alternative, R* should allow the selling of gang member weapons, horses and saddles.  What does everyone think?

    Not worth doing?

Matter of opinion I suppose but my friends and I enjoy doing them and (as mentioned) you get decent XP from them just like ambushes.  ....150 XP for clearing and then the XP for the kills.  They also drop other loot like ammo, tonics, etc. which helps. I never do them expecting I'll get rich.  I have had treasure maps populate with some of the dead though so it's always worth looting since those (although rare) can be very rewarding.

  23. This is an issue for as long as I remember.  Posses or no posses, I have encountered it.  I also still get those instances where all missions disappear from the map until you respawn or join a new session.  I also get issues where all players disappear from time to time and then later it is repopulated.

I think the idea that it may have to do with someone in your posse lagging or even yourself may have merit.

I have tried everything.  When I was alone and missions would not start, I tried respawning (in the same session) and it worked.  The mission started right after I spawned back in..  .....but then it didn't work the next night.  I also started moving around while the NPC was talking and I didn't have any problems with missions not engaging.  I also tried that with a posse and missions went smoothly.  .....then they didn't.

Personally, I would suggest everyone here submit their feedback to R* if you haven't already.
