  1. My fiends and I had no success with this either although as Krow mentioned, it could be something that is added later.  .....I will certainly submit my suggestions for it on R*'s feedback site.

It was always a good way to get some decent cash in GTA, would be nice to be able to steal horses or capture them in the wild in RDO for the same purpose.

I was hearing plenty of players, who while they was selling items or checking their maps.  Others would ride up and shoot them and then run off and avoid retribution.  Is anyone willing to explain why this is neceassary  for PvP?  This isn't the 1st game I have seen this, but it always seems to amaze me when I see this kind of thing and hear others complain about it like it's something to online gaming.

Yeah, this really sucks.  I try to kneel whenever and walk into cover if I'm doing things like that.  .....but as soon as you open the catalogue, your character stands up.  I'm not sure you can stay kneeling and off the radar and do this.  If not, it would be nice if you didn't show up on the map while browsing the book.  ....with the map, you can at least keep an eye on what's coming but with the catalogue, you have no idea until you hear something happen.

As far as skinning, they should let players at least break animation IMO.  I'm usually with people so we will watch each others back as we do.  ....and as long as other player blips are on the radar, I will keep checking the map periodically to make sure they are still a safe distance.

Now wait one minute; when a youtube video is trash, it deserves every bit of trolling it receives.

    Flat Earther video?  Troll time.

    Chemtrail Conspiracy Theory?  Troll Time.

    Fake Moon Landing?  Troll Time.

How dare you lump my hobby  noble pursuit in with those ruffians who shoot vulnerable players reading a map!

Wait a minute.....   The Moon landing was fake?????

You can also go into that player's profile and block them, but I have found in other games where I am up playing with the same players whether I want to or not.

Yeah, that's why I was intrigued when some folks were saying that (on PS4 at least) when you block someone, it won't allow the game to matchmake you with them.  I never really had to block folks like this so this is news to me (if true).

Funny, I logged in last night and spawned in the Grizzlies.  I knelt down and then watched the big map.  I could see a couple posses that were obviously trolling other players so I blocked them.  I might try this a few times before starting sessions and perhaps eventually my chances of being paired with such folks will lessen a bit.  .....which is probably a pipe dream when you think of just how many folks are likely playing (or will be playing) RDO.

.....speaking of which, I wonder if anyone has numbers on how many folks have been playing the beta this past week.

At this point, it's almost irrelevant, because I spent two hours trying to get online last night and being error-coded into oblivion, sometimes, with two separate error codes/messages in the same attempt.

Zero issues with other games.  When Friday the 13th: The Game has a more consistent online matchmaking system than you do, you're doing it wrong.

Luckily enough, I haven't had that problem (was on last night as well).  The worst I had was bad lag on Friday night which was likely due to the traffic from RDO being released to everyone.  .....but this is an actual, work-in-progress beta unlike some that are nearly a finished product and use an open beta for stress testing servers and/or marketing.

I hope those that are having problems (or have suggestions) are using the R* website to submit their feedback.  Personally, I look at this as an opportunity to help effect change in this game as it's still under development.  ....somewhat rare nowadays (on console).  Whether R* actually does take a direction I prefer is another story.  ......I'm just taking a wait and see approach right now.

Most companies want proof so that they don't have waste time replicating the issue.  You can also go into that player's profile and block them, but I have found in other games where I am up playing with the same players whether I want to or not.

So long term report and provide proof.  They will get around to reviewing it at their pace.

You're talking about reporting a player and that can be done from within the game if you wish to do that. We were discussing blocking a player so that you won't get matched with them, receive msgs, etc.  There is nothing for anyone else to review.

  7. 2 hours ago, YodaMan 3D said:

Yes, but they will require proof and it seems to be a wait and see type thing.  It also depends on the game as well.

So it has to be sent in for review first?  You can't determine who you don't wish to play with?  That doesn't sound right.

I could understand that process for disciplinary action but not blocking as that onky affects you and the player you don't wish to play with.

Fairly sure there's the option, I'll log in and check. I know you can buy any of the camp upgrades with gold. I think the level 90 tent or what have you was 800 something gold when I looked last night.

Okay, you were correct, it doesn't work with weapons until the rank is unlocked. When the rank is unlocked you can use gold instead of cash, ie, I can buy the Repeating Shotgun for $724, or 29 gold.

Tents are definitely rank skippable but apparently weapons are not. So, that's something.

Yeah....  I'm not diggin' the fact that they even allow weapons to be purchased with gold but lets see how it shakes out.

I read a lot of comments on here. I just started playing red dead on line today. And unfortunately I could not complete my first free roam mission, because I had one idiot who will not leave me alone. I was trying to meet a stranger in blackwater, and as soon as I enter Blackwater I was shot dead. I had no clue what happened, so when I respawned I tried to continue to the stranger. With the same idiot shot my horses and then shot me again. I respawned, went into my map to try to find him, and he shot me again. I just turned the game off, and came here to find a solution to this. And what I’ve read so far is not reassuring. I don’t like the ps idea. Had bad experiences with idiot switching to passive and you can’t retaliate.

A current solution I can suggest is to find friends to play with.  Solo play is essentially a death sentence right now.  Trolls prey on the weak and if you're alone, you're weak.   .....safety in numbers my friend.  Until they introduce invite-only sessions and/or some form of a passive option, this is your best bet IMO.

Also, passive mode doesn't have to be the same as GTAO.  There are ways they can have the mode where griefers would not be able to switch back and forth so easily.  ....maybe not making the option switchable in the session?  .....maybe switching could only be done while in your apartment / business?

Anyhow, I won't play RDO in its current state alone.

You can use gold bars to purchase any $ item "early" I believe. So you can skip the rank requirement by paying real money, which would allow a level one character to use a repeating shotgun if they chose to purchase it with gold.

I never saw where this was even possible.  There are some weapons that are unlocked due to he version of the game purchased, preorders, etc. but I never saw an option to buy a weapon with gold (just in-game cash).  I know some items (like cosmetics) where you can use gold or cash and some where it's just gold.

Personally, I just wish they did away with the gold bars, stick with an in-game cash system and make the economy more fair.   .....and then go with a Shark Card equivalent, but that's just me.

What I don't like is things like horse insurance (for some types of horses) being locked behind gold bars.

But then don't you discriminate against the young'uns? Yeah, they can be annoying, but a lot of them just want to play. I've also run in to 'adult' griefers and trolls in other games. There should be a detriment to unprovoked killing of a player so it is dealt with in game in a way that makes sense for the time and setting.

Yeah, trolls aren't limited to just young kids.  A lot of others are doing it too, including adults.

R* chose to include and market all of these other elements into free roam like hunting, fishing, coop, solo play, story missions, side quests, etc.  ......so yeah, I do expect that I can do these things with friends (or alone) and enjoy them.  The issue is that trolls tend to dictate what players can do most times simply because the game lacks consequences for those that choose to troll.  ....and currently lacks alternatives for those that don't wish to be exposed to their grief-like actions.

I'm quite confident R* will introduce invite-only sessions and perhaps passive options, etc. to mitigate the issue.  In the end, that's all that matters to me.

EDIT:  btw, R* just posted this a few minutes ago on Twitter:

We want to thank everyone for their feedback on the first few days of the Red Dead Online Beta. Now that it’s accessible to all players, we’ll work to balance and fine tune the experience to make sure it’s fun and rewarding for all kinds of players.

I think most can read between the lines here that complaints about griefing is at the root of this response.

    ....and they continue to say:

RDRO is going to be a microtransaction-based game. Not just cosmetic items, you will be able to purchase advantages (like shotguns) .  It's where GTAO is now and the direction it moved from launch.

Curious......  Where did you get this information about gold bars being used to buy weapons like shotguns? R* announced that gold bars would be used for cosmetic items and I've seen them for convenience components as well like horse insurance.

  13. Makes total sense and who knows, I may also walk away for a bit while they update the game.

I was almost ready to do that after last night. .....horrible experience. Trolls were out in force, lag was awful, missions wouldn't populate or work right, etc. I felt bad for my friend sinve that was his first experience.

Fast forward to this evening and it was a totally different experience. Hell, it was the first night we never ran into a troll.  ......a couple questionable guys, sure, but no trolls thankfully.

It's hit and miss right now for me but I know they will eventually provide more session types, options, etc. that will improve the gameplay experience for all.  .....hopefully with exception of the trolls

I thought they prob would but figured throwing out the feedback never hurts

Make sure to submit your feedback to R* at the link some of us have provided in these threads. This forum is fan forum (not an official one).

  15. Back in October dataminers had already revealed that RDR2 would include private sessions and "seamless PvE" (whatever the latter means).  Their other leask proved to be true so it seems these will likely be as well.  ....and given GTAVO has invite only sessions, I have confidence RDO will too.

yep i now but still.  Have report to R* .  But 1  , why they take over 600 mil in 2 day's and they can't fix a game normal. 2 Let ppl play a Beta so we need to test it for them ??

3 Just like gta5 they **** up big time.  This is to bad for words. 4.Same as get shot most off the time when you doing your own thing spawnkilling kids. There is to many wrongs in this F game. In my eyes they are complete worthless at R* and only filling ther pockets.

Well, I'm not going to try to sell you on it but open betas are nothing new in the industry and I for one applaud devs who use the public to help improve their games.  Open betas also allow them to discover issues that may not have been apparent when testing in-house or in a limited scope.

R* is looking for direction from their fans and this is an opportunity for people like you to provide your feedback to effect change.  They want their fans to have a say in how RDO is developed.

R* has made it very clear that RDO was a beta.  It's still in development and they are actively seeking feedback from their player base.  While I don't particularly care for the current gameplay in RDO I do also realize that it's in a raw state.  I know that there are new modes, session types, improvements, etc. to come before final release (and beyond).

Seems to me you already made up your mind though so good luck.

By no means am I putting the game away. If they got rid of the ‘always on’ blip, things would change a lot. Personally I think the economy is worse than trolls right now.

Yeah, I wasn't suggesting your were or even should.  .....just mentioning that I might until improvements are made.  It's just the first week so I don't expect anything for another 2 or so.
