What I do is get their PSN identity, and place a PSN block on them, and then switch servers. PSN will not place you on the same server as the little sociopaths that you've blocked. If enough people do this, then eventually the little losers will be whining that "The servers are dead! There's no one to play with except some assholes!"
But more importantly, R* needs to fix this. The game isn't fun to play except for the losers that enjoy griefing. There should be separate PvE servers. Place the griefer losers in their own little ghetto so that they can die off, like every other MMO I play.I didn't know a PSN block would affect matchmaking in a game like this. I'm going to try that because the trolling has gone from bad to absolutely unbearable for me at this point.
IMO, they need to implement a similar model as GTAVO with passive options, invite only sessions, etc. I'm confident they will given some of the code data miners had discovered back in October that already indicated a direction toward this.

Shooting bots and hunting/fishing is a part MP online. It literally is.
PVP is just one aspect of online.. And currently, IMO its the worst part of online due to auto aim. (This is just my opinion)
But really... Where the fun of constantly being locked on to by asshole with auto aim just because they see your blip?
Thing is this is just a beta. They don't even have PRIVATE/INVITE only lobbies yet. So once thats added players will be able to play in peace.
But this game does need friendly lobbies for PVE players.
I agree with many of your points.
Multiplayer encompasses PvP and PvE (and everything in between) where real people are able to play the game together. .....either cooperatively, as adversaries and/or a mix of both.
There are plenty of games out there that include coop MP gameplay in them in some form or another that include NPCs as adversaries. .....GRW, Destiny, Far Cry, the Division just to name a couple of the top of my head. This is ALL considered online multiplayer.
Even R* markets RDO as a game that supports all of these types of playstyles including solo (which at this point is essentially a death sentence). R* chose to incorporate all of these playstyles together in a public session and that needs to be balanced in order for them all to survive. .....which I'm sure it will whether through passive options, private sessions, both or other types of solutions. RDO right now is more of a deathmatch than anything else.

You do realize RDO is currently in beta, right?
If you really want to help effect change, I suggest reporting it to R* as they have been asking their customers to do during this beta period.

No idea but a quick Google search gave this approximation on some popular games:
QuoteApproximate data usage for popular games
Title & Data Per Hour
Fortnite data usage 100MB
PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG) data usage 40MB
Dota 2 data usage 120MB
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive data usage 250MB
Team Fortress 2 data usage 80MB
Call of Duty: World War II data usage 40MB
Overwatch data usage 135MB
World of Warcraft data usage 40MB
Destiny 2 data usage 300MB
League of Legends data usage 45MB
Warframe data usage 115MB
Rainbow Six Siege data usage 70MB
Rocket League data usage 40MB
Hearthstone data usage 3MB
Just remember that usage can vary and depend on a number of factors including the # of players in a session, whether you're hosting on a peer to peer connection, etc. THe big data users are streaming services (Netflix, YouTube, music, etc.). Plan for the worst and hope for the best.
Sounds like you're capped on how much you use a month? If you have a way to tell what your usage is in a given period of time, play a session or two and see how much you use.
I honestly don't know how that whole limited data model works as I have always just paid a flat fee and never needed or even cared to know how much I use. Good luck.

Same happens to me. It was much worse last night.

Tonight turned out to be a hot glitchy mess. Missions wouldn't show up half the time, tons of lag, etc. .....and the trolling was of epic proportions. Absolutely horrible. I may have to shelve this game for a while.

Has nothing to do with the game directly, just taking the opportunity to rant a bit. But what really chaps my hide is when players ride past you, wait for you to go by, and then circle back and shoot you in the back of the head. When someone is riding toward me, I draw my gun and wait to see if they act hostile. If they do, I draw up on them and we go to town. All civilized like. The way it should be. But when some squirly assed chicken little waits for you to go by just so they can shoot you in the back... man, you can bet I've got your name on a list. I cannot abide cowards and cravens.
Yeah, had this happen several times. Even when we were being cool with them and they were clearly outnumbered. One guy pissed me off so bad I shot and killed his horse as well.
......but then the vicious cycle continues and the respawn, come after you again, etc., etc., etc. Boring as hell. ....and the crap talking is absolutely infantile. It would be funny if it weren't so sad. Trolling in its purest form. Trying to provoke people.

Only thing i would add, If you chose passive mode you will have to stay for the remainder of the session to avoid "Passive mode trolling" like in gta
and could you elaborate on the "fantasy" part i didn't quite understand
Yeah, good point and I agree. There definitely needs to be ways to mitigate the issue of exploits like that.
What I meant by "fantasy" is the idea that everyone can enjoy the multiplayer experience in this type of environment. .....in its current state. The marketing by R* and even some of what a couple individuals have said in these forums is a pipe dream IMO.
QuoteRed Dead Online is an evolution of the classic multiplayer experience in the original Red Dead Redemption, blending narrative with competitive and cooperative gameplay in fun new ways. Using the gameplay of the upcoming Red Dead Redemption 2 as a foundation, Red Dead Online will be ready to be explored alone or with friends, and will also feature constant updates and adjustments to grow and evolve this experience for all players.
It's fast becoming a deathmatch instead. ....and forget about trying to "explore alone". IMO, it's a fantasy unless they do something to drastically diminish the advantage trolls have in the game.
.....and I know there are a lot of things missing in RDO at the moment that they have already planned to add later and likely left out on purpose at launch for the sake of simplicity while they make sure the game is stable. I just hope the coming changes and additions including things that support / encourage more cooperative gameplay and discourage griefing.

Idk about everyone else, but I'm good playing story mode. If I ever get the urge to deal with trolling and constant whining, I'll have kids...lol
If I were happy with just playing the story mode, I wouldn't be posting here in the online subforum.
....so yeah, I'd say in answer to your question that most everyone else here is interested in RDO to some extent.

I wouldn't like that. I shouldn't have to restart entirely just to join my friends that chose to play in pvp.
I still think removing players from the map would be all it takes to stop the trolling. That way, everyone can still play together without any segregation or separate servers. Trolls can still troll, but they'll have a much harder time finding people to screw with. Casual players can actually play the game, while still having to watch their backs.
Yeah, the whole idea of having people create a separate player for PvP sessions doesn't fly with me in this game. The issue is that R* chose to incorporate all of the MP elements together in a public, free for all environment. In GTAVO, you have to join a public session in order to play missions, buy and run businesses, take advantage of money making opportunities, etc. ....and right now, RDO is the same. The idea that players can feel free to explore and engage in cooperative activities, missions, etc. while being subjected to random, persistent trolling is a fantasy.
I like the idea of removing player tracking and I agree it would help to an extent with the trolling. I've even been an advocate of it. .....but the more I've thought about it and been exposed to these RDO trolls, I'm beginning to think that it could also make it worse as unsuspecting players can be more easily ambushed as trolls cap mission objectives, towns and stores, post offices, etc. where players need to go to acquire items and progress through the game. They can follow people who they hear hunting and snipe them from cover, etc., etc.
Perhaps there is a happy middle ground that is proximity based but then again, fast movers would be undetectable until the very last minute and so on. I'm beginning to think a passive mode and more severe consequences for random killing may be a better solution in public sessions. Maybe if towns and mission points were safe zones as well? I guess the point is that they are really going to need to do something to take the advantage away from these trolls.
If R* would make everything available in invite-only, I'd be happy enough at that point. .....but if not, then something needs to be done with the public session.

I've only played around 3-4 hrs of Online play over the last 2 nights. I've done a few missions. Mostly been playing the Showdown series matches. The cost of items is so much more expensive when compared to the single player game prices. I have less than 1 unit of gold, and around $50. It will be grindy to afford better gear doing side missions like this. Maybe there is a better way to earn money?
You can mute individual players. Tap left directional (PS4) and select Players. Or set voice chat options to to hear; Everyone, Friends Only, Crew Only, and Posse Only. Tap left directional and navigate down from Players to Online to access those options.
Thanks. I already knew about the mute option and had to use it on several players. We also reported about 4 trolls who were using racial slurs and abusive language. Anyone who thinks this kind of online experience is ok needs to have the head examined. It got to the point that our team of 4 went to PSN party chat. This is textbook trolling.
I know new session options are likely on the horizon but I hope they implement them sooner than later because if it takes too long there will only be this toxic element left playing in this game. At this point, I am even advocating for passive modes simply so players can navigate past the constant, hostile actions of these griefers.
Currently, the best bet is to travel in packs and avoid others when possible which is hard when they cap mission points, etc. We still had a lot of fun but also several frustrating moments. When you fight back, they simply respawn again and continue their assault. .....there's no end unless you run away.

You do know that there's CO OP missions in this game. That have ZERO PVP in it.
It's Mad Max in the 1890's. This public only session is essentially a lopsided deathmatch with these trolling "kill squads" having the advantage. Not what I call a fun MP experience at all.
-
I've encountered a few bugs but it runs good. .....trolling on the other reached epic proportions last night for me. Engaging them only makes it worse as they simply respawn in and continue their attack. We spent more time defending ourselves and running away from toxic players than actually engaging in any of the activities.

I was enjoying it two nights ago when the trolling wasn't so bad but last night was horrible and I can only see it getting worse. The verbal crap talking was just as bad.

I have to say that this is online mp. Therefore yes, players are going to want to kill you to stop you from doing stuff. If you want to do just missions, then player single player.
Think about what i say before replying with the usual childish comebacks.
.....as you dismiss others and imply their feedback is "usually childish". Yeah, ok.
HInt.... Don't insult someone and then ask them to do you the courtesy of listening to what you have to say.

This is great advice. I would encourage others to share their experiences with R* and their suggestions. Unlike certain individuals in these forums, R* is looking for your feedback both good and bad and that's what matters.
The issue is that public sessions provide trolls with a target rich environment. .....and yeah, they are "trolls" when there is no other benefit to randomly killing other players except for the simple pleasure (in their eyes) of causing grief.
Sure, this is multiplayer but it is also supposed to be a place where folks can play cooperatively while they explore the game world, engage in missions and other activities. The crux of the problem lies in the fact that trolls can ruin all other aspects of game play in the RDR world. Even the "solo experience" R* promotes is a pipe dream in RDO right now as those players are made easy targets by these kill squads that camp mission sites, towns, seek out players using the radar tracking, etc.
I am pretty confident that at some point R* will introduce private / invite only session options and perhaps even passive modes for public lobbies. In the meantime, I would encourage you all to provide your feedback here:

I understand what you are saying but with enough people that suggest it also and it gets out to a wider base of people then it may succeed as then in R*'s eyes it is what the players want
I doubt most petitions ever show up on the radar of companies like R*. I think your best bet is through the tools R* has offered but that's your choice. Might be better to create a thread with your idea and encourage others to submit it as a suggestion through the tool R* has provided if they agree. .....but that's just me. Good luck either way.

I'm not trying to discourage discussion but you appear to want to get you message to R* and I was just making it clear that RDR2.org is not an official channel that will lead to change. .....which is why I provided the link. I've submitted several suggestions myself.
There have been several folks who have mistaken this site as an official forum so I simply wanted to correct any misunderstanding if there was one.

A lot of things get thrown around including misinformation and assumptions.
Currently, there are no microtransactions but there will be. However, they say they will be cosmetic based as you can see with some of the clothing and customization options already in the game that require "gold bars". These "gold bars" will be what I am assuming people can buy to purchase such things. They can also be earned in-game although so far it seems gold nuggets are what you mostly come across (100 gold nuggets = 1 gold bar). I'm not expecting to earn enough gold bars in RDO to really buy anything but I guess we'll see how it goes.

I thought that too until I saw the additional options I had missed the first time around. I agree that they should have more head options but the fine tuning options that adjust depth, height, orientation, etc. of facial features does help quite a bit.

Actually, this is for requests as well as reporting bugs, exploits, etc.:

Fyi.... RDR2.org is not an official R* forum so anything discussed in this thread would simply fall on deaf ears as far as R* is concerned.
R* does however want to hear your feedback and have provided a site (located at the above link) to do that already.

I'd suggest reporting the exploit to R*.

RDO is currently as toxic as it ever has been since launch (only a few days ago mind you) and I can only see it getting worse until R* releases an update addressing the issue. I hate to say it but I may have to put the game aside until they do. I have friends who weren't able to play until this weekend and are really disappointed by what they encountered. The trouble is, when they put a game aside, they don't always come back to revisit it even if they do understand it's still a work in progress.
