Man this pissed me off so bad yesterday because some kid was doing this to me, that I stopped hunting and murdered him over and over until he finally left the server. THEY HAVE TO FIX THIS ASAP!
Your best bet for now is to team up with friends if you can. ....safety in numbers.

I kind of figured a lot of people would be complaining and crying over spilled milk already. Do you all not realize this is IN BETA? It is meant to let them work out things and see how everything works with multiple people playing. I am sure issues will get handled with trolls. Just give them more than a few days, damn. I can tell some of you never worked on video game programing before.
As some of us already mentioned, most are fully aware that this is a beta and things will be added, removed, improved as time goes on. I even expect private / friends-only sessions to become available in the future.
Folks are simply sharing their experiences and suggestions.

The big issue is that R* tries to blend coop and PvP together in public sessions without restrictions. Those who like to play cooperatively, engage in the activities, grind for cash, etc. simply become the prey for those who make it their life mission to kill other players.
Trolls are at an advantage here. ....and I say "trolls" as there really is no benefit or reason to hunting down and randomly killing other players in this game. They do it out of simple enjoyment. .....to cause grief.

I am overall impressed. I noticed there are a few buggy bits but I guess that is why they said it is in beta. I only had an issue with one group of people so far which was rather annoying. I was on by myself doing some hunting and a group of 4 dudes just kept killing me. I ended up just taking a break and when I joined again I was on a much more passive server. Most people were keeping to themselves.
Unfortunately, that's the reality of how RDO will be without consequences for these types of actions. I can see people creating posses of kill squads that go around eliminating the weak simply for (as they see it) the fun of it. There is no challenge in actions such as this nor any benefit. .....it's simple, textbook trolling.

I'm looking forward to playing more tonight!
If you need someone to tag along and help mitigate the possibility of being trolled, hit me up. My PSN name is the same (Kean_1). I just got on last night and plan to go on again tonight. .....just trying to make some money to buy a better rifle at this point.

Yeah..... I expected increases in the cost of items and a decrease in what items are worth but it is lopsided. I'm sure there will be adjustments but I still expect cost to be higher online for balance / longevity reasons.

Animals seem very scarce. Or at least, they don't seem to spawn in the same manner as story mode. The landscape seems a little desolate of life.
Really? That hasn't been my experience. I was killing several animals last night with friends. They seemed easy enough to find in my case.

Well the you won't get boring... Seriously though, all this talknig from us and they're going to zero our progress after Beta anyway...lol
R* simply said that to cover their butt if they have to clean the slate at some point. Funny how some of the game review sites and personalities have made a big deal about it.
They had to say it in the event they need to make an update that would affect player stats, etc. Not particularly unusual in betas but I'll wager R* does what they can to retain player progress.

Just a friendly reminder to all......
Please feel free to join my Community on PSN named "Red Dead Redemption 2 - TeamUp" if you wish to find like-minded players to team up with. Don;t be shy. No commitments, just a way to help us all find folks to join with instead of taking our chances alone in RDO.
Also, please feel free to send me a friend request if you wish. My PSN name is the same as my member name (Kean_1). I suspect that I will be on most nights and I'm always looking for others to join with while online. Had a blast last night with two friends. This was our first time in free roam and we got jumped by two trolls. ......we wiped them out. I don't think they realized we were together.

It's funny. I'm at work, and I've accomplished nothing because I've been building my character in my head all day, and drying to figure out which voice (Ultimate Warrior, Lennie Small, or Forest Gump) to use....
I suppose I better brew a whole pot of coffee when I get home.
Sorry to say but your character is mute just like in GTAVO. You can adjust your whistle though.
They do have more extensive options to change certain characteristics like your nose, ears, cheeks, jaw, chin, etc. You just have to select "X" when to further customize. I missed that the first time and started my character all over just so I could customize him even more.

I suspect it ensure the server doesn't get overloaded with masses of players creatings new characters like I heard when it happened with GTA 5
That's exactly the reason. They staggered it to avoid issues with RDO being overwhelmed and at the same time added a little bonus to those who bought the Ultimate Edition and the rest who supported the game at launch.

Well then, that's different than how the campaign game world worked.

Some real top fun aspects but then it annoyed the crap out of me that some troll can spawn kill me time and time again as I'm trying to complete a quest and there was nothing I could do other than close the game down.
I play loads of games and it's very rare that something annoys me so much I feel the need to log a website and moan about it so, kudos to Rockstar for that.
I would encourage you to submit your feedback to R* about trolling. I have.
https://www.rockstargames.com/reddeadredemption2/online/feedback?step=addb2b0b
Now is the time that they really listen to the community and if folks want to see certain things improved, added, removed, etc., submit your feedback. Get your voices heard.
It's fine and dandy to vent here but this is just a fan site. .....not an official R* forum.

I had the opposite issue last night. My friends voted to do a "bad" thing while I chose to try and be the good guy. The vote was 2 to 1 and I became "dishonorable" because of it. All in good fun though I could really care less. .....although in the long haul I would prefer to be honorable.
-
I'm on PS4 and haven't had that issue myself. I was running around with two friends and completed 3 missions.

I've been loving it. Not much trouble with trolls. Had one person shoot me when I was busy on here, just standing around in the open, and another that tried to get me in camp, but I had my white flag up so nothing he did worked. Mostly been moving around or in missions, keeping clear of people.
The only issues I have are because it's still early, lack of some content and such, and some bugs (butchers and some of the menus can get buggy). Still tons to do in the world. Other than not being able to get on right away when it launched, haven't had any connection issues.
Liking some of the features that are different from story mode, tho do miss my hair and beard growing. I like when I feel like doing a mission, can get into one pretty much instantly with the quick menu, loads quick (gta took forever), and if someone leaves, you can continue from a checkpoint, with the mission adjusting according to how many players remain.
Amazon Prime style ordering is kinda cool, order from the catalog anywhere and pickup from post office or your camp. Nice having any extra ammo you bought (this way at least) remain in your camps chest for later (hoping it stays after logging off)
Yeah, I wasn't too thrilled about the on demand catalogue option (vs. requiring a visit to stores), but at least they make the player go to the post office and/or their camp to retrieve the items. .....still would have preferred making people buy only in stores but it is what it is. At least the ammo that you can carry appears to be limited.

Fyi..... This is not an official R* site. Unless you're talking about the club / posse tool that is available here (https://www.rdr2.org/forums/clubs/) they have no control over what you're talking about.
Having said that, have you thought about creating a PSN Community and getting your folks to join that? Personally, I find that to be much more convenient as you can view who's playing the game, send messages, join others games, etc.
I guess I'm just old but I have no idea what a "tangent" posse would be.

All of those would be a huge help. The only thing I would add would be no bounties if you are defending yourself
.....until someone finds a way around it and causes the defender to become the offender.
The Division had something similar where an player would be labeled a rogue if they shot another player. .....until griefers realize they could goad victims into shooting them first and then wipe them out. It happened to me when someone came at me with guns blazing. I shot back and then was promptly killed. It wasn't until after I realized his first shots never contacted me. He purposely missed so that I would be the one who would be labeled the offender as I tried to defend myself.
Griefers are gonna grief. I believe they need to do more to encourage and incentivise cooperative gameplay. They also need to introduce (as I believe they will) private / friend session options like we have in GTAO for those of us who prefer not to play in a sandbox with randoms.
Personally, I like the idea of much more limited player tracking (think close proximity, LOS, etc.). This would not only make it harder for trolls but would also make player interaction much more organic IMO.
Unfortunately, R* uses the same formula for missions where players are encouraged to rob and kill other players to interrupt their progress. .....it's a downward spiral as people become frustrated and seek revenge on those other players, etc. The problem with public session in R* games in my mind is that they tend to encourage conflict rather than rewarding cooperative gameplay IMO.

You have repeatedly advocated for "keeping it the way it is", and played the victim, calling anyone who doesn't agree with your anarchistic utopia a "normie" (it's practically become a crutch for you) which is a pejorative term. There has been no interest in a civil discussion from this topic by you other than to denigrate folks who disagree.
....yeah, the "noob" and "dumb normie" remarks are belittling. It's not fooling anyone and when he gets the reaction one would expect when someone is being insulting to others opinions, he pulls the victim card. One more to add to my growing list of ignored users.
Fact is, the current state of RDO is in no way reflective of all elements that will be in the final product. I tend to take a wait and see approach but there have already been indications in the code that we will have similar session options like we do in GTAVO. If so, it makes sense that R* does not want to implement them at this point in the beta to stress test the servers and make it less complicated when dealing with issues. .....keeping everyone in one pot.
My guess is that when they feel the game is stable in its current form, they will gradually begin to introduce more options for players like (possibly) private / friends only sessions.

I'm going to be interested to see if the progress from the open beta is maintained, or if they're going to wipe the slate clean for the official launch. The lack of detail on this point is keeping me from using "Dr. Poop Juice" (I let my kids design and name my character) very often, so I'll continue to focus on the story mode for now.
I think R* added that blurb in their announcement to cover the butt in the event that they due have to wipe the slate clean before final release. I wager it's all dependent on just how significant the changes are that will need to be made. So far, it's looking pretty decent IMO with the exception of a few expected bugs.
I honestly believe that they will do what they can to help avoid a reset of everyone's progress. There is no benefit for them to anger their player base. .....I'm going to keep soldiering on for now and hope for the best although I doubt I'll be too broken up if they do reset (depending on the reason).
If you end up giving it a go, look me up if you need someone to tag along. Right now I'm just trying to find out how some of the online mechanics work and making a few bucks.

It's ok IMO but still missing elements, modes as you might expect in a beta if this scale.
I suspect trolls will become more of an issue especially for solo players. The only thing that saved me last night was riding with two other friends. We got jumped within minutes of our first time in the free roam world but luckily we were able to kill them. ......I don't think they suspected that we were together.
I'm hoping that they will offer friends-only / private sessions like they did in GTAO. If the October leaks regarding the code were any indication, there will be session options like this in the future.
As this staggered release continues, just be aware of randoms in game. .....and team up with friends when possible

I remember me making a huge "SIGH......" when i made my way into the barber, and i could (Just like GTA) go from bald, to long hair... There, i already knew what i went into.. And i really hope that they fix this in the final release of RDO.
Because.. Rockstar said way back, that they want to make it realistic in anyway possible.. And with this, i started to think... Maybe its not even a joke when someone says "I bet they bring in Rocket Launcher Horses in the future" -
Really really hope, and beg that they look into these things, even though they are small, and even though i know that kiddies / monkey players want to have purple haired cowboys... not me!Yeah, that seems to indicate that there may not be hair growth available but again, this is a beta and they haven't implemented everything they have planned yet.
.....including other modes like private sessions, etc. btw. It sunlikely the game will remain in it's current state without some options for team players like they had in GTAO.
Personally, I would suggest folks submit their suggestions to R* in the link several of us have provided in these threads.

I'm enjoying it. Had two players try to jump us but I don't think they realized all three of us were together. ......we decimated them.
Other than that, most others left us alone.

Yeah, I agree. I'm not advocating for PvP vs. non-PvP modes but simply invite-only sessions as there are now in GTAVO. What those folks choose to do in those would be their business whether its coop, adversarial, role playing, etc. They should be able to switch as they wish IMO. ....also as GTAVO is currently set up. I also have little doubt that these will appear at some point in the game.
I think it's obvious R* will go with the GTA model and keep certain money making opportunities in public sessions. I don't care for that model but it is what it is. My only hope at that point is that there is enough to do in private sessions so I don't have to wander into public one (if at all). The only way I can really enjoy public sessions will be if they begin to implement changes that will discourage random killing of other players (trolling / griefing) and further reward cooperative gameplay.
Make encounters more natural feeling. Take away the player "radar" detection and make it proximity and LOS based. Take away the clear advantage random killers have in the game.
I didn't like the griefing R* encouraged in GTAVO but I understood it. It made sense in that gameworld with it's "over the top", indulgent, tech laden and corrupt nature. ......not so much in the RDR universe.
