  1. Rockstar Newswire (official source) has been updated.  Here's the info they posted which has a few new additional details we may not have heard but more to come tomorrow:

    https://www.rockstargames.com/newswire/article/60711/Red-Dead-Online-Beta

    Quote

Now that everyone has had a chance over the past month to experience the story of Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang in Red Dead Redemption 2, it is almost time to begin the beta period for Red Dead Online. Early access to the Red Dead Online beta begins tomorrow on Tuesday, November 27, working up to full public access on Friday, November 30.

Built from the ground up for the latest hardware, Red Dead Online blends the classic multiplayer of the original Red Dead Redemption with the best of everything we have learned since then about creating deep multiplayer experiences. The result is something completely new and fun, and an experience that will continue to expand and evolve over time.

With the gameplay of Red Dead Redemption 2 as its foundation, Red Dead Online transforms the vast and deeply detailed landscapes, cities, towns and habitats of Red Dead Redemption 2 into a new, living online world ready to be shared by multiple players. Create and customize your character, tailor your abilities to suit your play style and head out into a new frontier full of things to experience.

Explore the world solo or with friends. Form or join a Posse to ride with up to seven players; gather around the fire at your Camp; head out hunting or fishing; visit bustling towns; battle enemy gangs and attack their hideouts; hunt for treasure; take on missions and interact with familiar characters from across the five states; or fight against other outlaws in both spontaneous skirmishes and pitched set-piece battles; compete with other players or whole Posses in open world challenges and much more.

The launch of the Red Dead Online Beta is the first step in what will be a continually expanding and dynamic world, and the beta period will allow us to deal with the inevitable turbulence of launching any online experience of this size and scale.

During this process, we will be looking to our dedicated community to help us report and fix problems, share ideas, and assist in shaping the future of the full Online experience. As with all of our releases, we will strive to make the launch of Red Dead Online the best it can possibly be, and we ask that the community share that spirit with us over the next weeks and months.

To help us ease into the beta and to mitigate major issues, we will begin the early access period starting Tuesday, November 27 at 8:30am EST, and gradually scale the player base up to full access beginning on Friday, November 30. This will help ensure that our servers can handle a steadily growing volume of concurrent players in the early hours and first days of the Beta and hopefully reduce the likelihood of any server crashes during the launch week as we get things up and running.  Full rollout details are as follows:

Tuesday, November 27th: All Red Dead Redemption 2: Ultimate Edition owners. Please note, players who purchased the physical Ultimate Edition must redeem the Ultimate Edition code in the packaging to be eligible.
Wednesday, November 28th: All players who played Red Dead Redemption 2 on October 26th according to our data.
Thursday, November 29th: All players who played Red Dead Redemption 2 between October 26th to October 29th according to our data.
Friday, November 30th: All players who own Red Dead Redemption 2.
The Red Dead Online Beta will be available to anyone who owns Red Dead Redemption 2 on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One starting Friday, November 30. When booting up Red Dead Redemption 2 and arriving to the title menu, you will see an option in the top right of the screen to select Online.

Stay tuned to the Rockstar Newswire tomorrow for more details about Red Dead Online modes, gameplay and more.

I reckon its simply because its a beta, gradual introduction of numbers over several days, saves crashes, and allows them to monitor and possibly adjust setting their end to accommodate us ..

You hit the nail on the head. Much better to roll it out than to launch with everyone on at once.  RDO is going to be huge.  I think this was a smart move to include this as a neat little perk for those who chose to buy the Ultimate edition and the fans / supporters who played at launch.

Looks like I'll be playing on Wednesday since I bought the regular copy.  I may have to stay away from the forums tomorrow so I can still have a sense of discovery when finally get to play myself.

There was some article last week talking about achievements/trophies in online were progressing for some people to like 1% or 0.1%, dont remember exactly (a bug from making the achievements/trophies live, maybe), which some people were taking as people playing already (not saying it didn't happen, may have been some alpha testers playing online, stress testing the servers or something).  But ya, the beta starts rolling out tomorrow, as people have said above.

It was actually 0.01% and likely attributed to playtesters.

It is going live tomorrow! I think a lot of people were jumping the gun and thinking it was already live. I got a text from my friend a little while ago telling me to check if it was up yet.

Just to clarify.....  It's not going live for most people tomorrow.  It is a staged release.....

Well shoot. I had no idea they would be doing it this way. I got all excited. I didn't get the ultimate edition. What is the difference between launch day and launch weekend?? Like if you played so many hours after the 26th or something?

Yeah, it's a little confusing.  I was playing within minutes of the launch so I should be in the clear.  :)  .....but I'm not exactly sure why they mean between the 26th and the 29th since that seems to include the 26th which is launch day.

This is obviously a little unclear for those of us playing Thursday night and Friday.  .....I was actually playing around 2100 on 10/25 since I'm on the West coast of the U.S.  Release was midnight EST.

Awesome! Someone mentioned this on Reddit last week that it was going live on Tuesday and I didn't believe them. I still think it was a lucky guess!

Yeah, well.....   They had a 1 in 5 chance.  ;)

Just keep in mind however that the release is staggered and will depend if you have the Ultimate edition or when you first started playing RDR2.  So the release isn't actually Tuesday unless you bought the Ultimate version.  It will be Wed thru Fri for everyone else.

  7. More info regarding the details about RDO from R* Intel site:

    Features
Red Dead Online's Beta will feature every single animal that is seen in single-player for users to hunt and be attacked by.

It will include support for hunting, fishing, treasuring hunting, posses, camps and a variety of competitive modes. While the game won’t have the complex, threaded single-player storyline of “Red Dead Redemption 2,” it will feature a sort of narrative tied to cooperative play for the online game’s posses.
According to Rockstar Games, you can "create and customize your character, tailor your abilities to suit your play style and head out into a new frontier full of things to experience."

"Rockstar says it will have more details on Tuesday about the modes and gameplay of the title." according to Variety.

This is the full excerpt from what Rockstar Games sent to press outlets on Tuesday:

With the gameplay of Red Dead Redemption 2 as its foundation, Red Dead Online transforms the vast and deeply detailed landscapes, cities, towns, and habitats of Red Dead Redemption 2 into a new, living online world ready to be shared by multiple players. Create and customize your character, tailor your abilities to suit your play style, and head out into a new frontier full of things to experience.

We'll update this article as new information comes in.

  8. When hunting for perfect hides, I try to find a point where I can perch over a rich hunting ground.  Then I use my binoculars to find 3 star prey and take them down with a headshot.   ......using the appropriate weapon of course.  Deer and medium sized animals, I use Express ammo and a powerful rifle with a long range scope.  .....for critters, I use a bow or varmint rifle but those are always a pain in the ass.

  9. UPDATE:  Here's the news from Rockstar Intel who got it from (oddly enough) Variety magazine .  I didn't find this on R* Newswire though.  TAKE THIS WITH A GRAIN OF SALT UNTIL WE CAN VALIDATE:

    Quote

Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive have finally announced the release date for the initial beta period of Red Dead Online over 4 weeks after the game's release.

You'll be able to jump in to Online and join your cowboy buddies on November 27, 2018! Finally!

    Variety reported on this first.

"The beta for the online portion of “Red Dead Redemption 2” goes live in waves this week with those who purchased the Ultimate version of the game gaining access Tuesday, anyone who played in the first few days of the game’s launch gaining access Wednesday and Thursday and everyone else by Friday.
The beta, which is free for those who own the game, is designed to be the beginning of “Red Dead Online,” meaning that it won’t run for a limited time and that developers hope to allow players to keep their progress in the game."
“Red Dead Online” will feature an open world that is home to all of the animals of the single-player game.

Hmmmmm....   How can I put this without disappointing you........

There is no Santa Clause and Google is just a search engine.

Unless you see a source that is reputable / official with news about RDO, take it with a large grain of salt.  If RDO was online, there would be news from R* and other, well known, trustworthy news sources.

We have about a week now before this month is over, I expect to hear from Rockstar soon.

Yeah, I'll wager some sort of announcement comes this Tuesday and then a release toward the end of the week.   .....unless something unexpected comes up.  Either way, I have no doubt that there will be some news next week.

  12. Replay the game, partake in some of the other activities you may not have during the first playthrough (those that are still available), etc.  If you're hung up on keeping your character totally "good", create a save and then start trying some of the activities that this game is all about (outlaws for life).  .....try robbing stores, trains, people, etc.  Try getting better at those activities so you're ready for online.

RDO is on the horizon so that will also have things you can do solo, coop or against other players in the game world.  It's not as if the game dies after the campaign.   .......unless you're completely against the online experience before we even have details of what it will consists of.

IMO, my friends and I can't wait to play together (co-op) when RDO arrives.

IGN: What can players expect from Red Dead Online? Will we have as much open-world freedom as we do in the single-player component?

Imran Sarwar: Of course. Red Dead Online will use the world and gameplay mechanics of Red Dead Redemption 2 as a jumping off point for a new world of cowboys (and cowgirls) and outlaws that combines multiplayer and cooperative gameplay and narrative components in a huge open world. Players will be able explore alone or easily join with friends or other players to compete or work together. We’ll take full advantage of the entire world, as well as all the aspects of a 19th century setting that make Red Dead Redemption 2 unique and fun.

IGN: What do you want players to get out of Red Dead Online? What ambitions does Rockstar have in terms of evolving their idea of online open worlds?

Josh Needleman: Red Dead Redemption’s multiplayer was a real leap forward for us at the time. It was the first game that hinted at the real opportunities for open world multiplayer beyond cities, where the world was open as a place to create your own freeform gameplay, while at the same time was as a sort of living lobby for other, more structured kinds of game modes. Red Dead Redemption 2 will take those ideas much further and combine that with everything we’ve learned in the years since then with our favorite elements from Grand Theft Auto Online about how to make really fun and complex competitive and cooperative experiences in open worlds, and how to introduce narrative elements into multiplayer.

IGN: Why aren't you releasing Red Dead Online alongside Red Dead Redemption 2’s single-player experience?

Imran: There are a few reasons for this. The first is that even though Red Dead Redemption 2 and Red Dead Online share the same gameplay mechanics and geography, we see them essentially as separate products that will grow and evolve independently of each other.

We love story-based, single-player games and they are the foundation of everything we do. Red Dead Redemption 2 is an absolutely massive story-based game that we hope people will be lost in for a long time and we want people to experience everything that world has to offer before we build on that with the Online experience. Not to mention, playing through the story and getting to know the controls and mechanics of the game is the best way to get ready for playing inside the world of Red Dead Online.

Also, as we have learned from experience when launching Online games at this scale, there are bound to be a few issues and we want to ensure that we have time to gradually roll out the game and make the experience as smooth as we possibly can for everyone. We believe this way of rolling out will give people the best overall experiences with both single player and multiplayer.

IGN: Aside from the obvious - the 21st-century setting/vehicles/tech/etc - how will this experience be different from Grand Theft Auto Online?

Josh: One of the biggest differences between GTA and Red Dead universes is that you’re often speeding through or flying over a GTA world, whereas in Red Dead Redemption the change of pace elevates the intimacy of the overall experience. Like the single player game’s story of Arthur Morgan, we want people to settle into their online characters and feel like every activity makes sense for the character, the setting and the time. This should feel intimate and personal while still feeling fun and action-packed from moment to moment.

We’ve tried to take the best elements and best content packs from Grand Theft Auto Online and use them for templates for what we are making here. We feel Grand Theft Auto Online really only found its feet creatively with Heists. That pack, along with After Hours, The Doomsday Heist, Gun Running and a few others represent the best of Grand Theft Auto Online, and provided the template for what we wanted to use here, (not in terms of content, obviously, but how they combined narrative, gameplay, modes and other content into a cohesive thematic whole) alongside all of the elements we liked from the old Red Dead Redemption multiplayer.

IGN: What have you and the rest of the team learned from your experiences launching / designing / updating / supporting Grand Theft Auto Online?

Josh: The biggest problem with the original Red Dead Redemption's multiplayer was that every update we released fractured the audience. As the game got bigger, we separated our player base. Avoiding this was the inspiration behind Grand Theft Auto Online – we are obsessed by keeping the audience complete and experience beyond perpetual. Beyond this, after lots of trial and error (!!!), we feel we have found a way to make multiplayer games that feel like Rockstar experiences, combining personality, gameplay, style, narrative and variety into the packs. That did not really begin to happen until we released the first Heists pack. Our aim this time is to hopefully get there a bit more quicker, but still be responsive to what people enjoy playing and evolve as we go.

  13. Why you would spend 1 1/2 hours trying to hunt down a 3 star buck is beyond me but ok.  .....I can usually bag one in short order simply approaching from an elevated position in a target rich area and using a good rifle with an appropriate scope (headshot).

......but yeah, I have a feeling none of this will make a difference and you've already made up your mind so......

  14. Why do you need someone to change your mind?   .......and why the massive font?

You're either confident in your assessment or not.  Doesn't matter what the rest of us think.  Ratings are mostly subjective anyway based on our own expectations, experiences, likes and dislikes.

  15. Yeah.....  The N, S, E, W indicators are also a little hard to see.  Perhaps putting them on the outside of the ring would have been a better choice or another alternative.  As for confusing them for an "X", not really but they can tend to mask them at times.  I run with the minimap at normal size and then expand it when I'm looking for kills, etc.  Easy enough to tell at that point for me.

ROCKSTAR GAMES SHOULD TAKE TIME AND PATIENCE TO DEVELOP RED DEAD ONLINE.

What makes you think they won't?

You also have to realize that GTAV set the benchmark for success with relatively few games ever lucky enough to come close.  GTAV:O continues to break records today.

Also, RDR2 is not a replacement for GTAV:O.  Both games will continue to live alongside one another into the foreseeable future.  R* has no plans to abandon GTAV:O anytime soon and will continue to release updates.

RDR2 has already shown impressive sales records and I have no doubt that RDO will also be a hit.  Both will supply years of enjoyment to their fans.
