Seems mine took 3 hours more to complete the remaining 47GB download. ....which is I guess is about right for my internet speed of 34Mbps ( 15.3 GB/hr). Usually games take about 2-3 hours but are also half the size of this one.

Really? Mine downloaded in like 1 hour.
Yeah, I don't know. I had the system on standby and would have thought it would be downloaded by now but when I turned it on I saw it wasn't. I have no idea when it started though.
My download speed is 32 Mbps. Also, I've noticed that my PS4 tends to overestimate the time it takes for games to download. I'll check again in an hour and see.

MIne is still downloading on my PS4. ......45GB of 92. .......4 hours left it says.

The whole thing is part and parcel for working in a production environment when you're up against a deadline. I worked for a media company that was producing content in the past, and I routinely worked 36-48 hour shifts when we were up against it, but that would literally be once every three or four months, and not a regular occurrence. They'd feed us, let us sleep on couches, and we'd get paid overtime for it, so there really wasn't much to complain about it.
Those are also offset by entire months of regular to light duty, especially in a ROWE (Results Only Work Environment). If anything, the need for a crunch at the end of production is the result of poor planning by the project manager, who clearly didn't build in enough time into the schedule, or create a realistic, workable timeframe to begin with. A good project manager anticipates those things, and has the power and blessing of upper management to initiate corrective measures and actions against team members who routinely under-perform or miss project goals. I've seen entire projects bogged down by the actions/incompetence/apathy of ONE individual. A chain is only as strong as it's weakest link, so it takes a project manager with tremendous vision to prevent things like crunch sessions from being a necessity.
Just an fyi.... That part you quoted me on with the link was regarding the OPs original point about the writing still going on for RDO. Looks like a moderator merged two of my responses together.
......but yeah, I agree in those scenarios how crunches could be avoided by good planning and a coordination of effort. I just find it funny that the media and some folks make a big deal out of this in the gaming industry when it's a fact of life in a lot of other businesses.
btw, I worked with my fair share of good and bad project managers. The good ones usually knew a lot of the answers already, understood how each department worked, knew all the key people they could call upon to get results and had the drive to keep the ball rolling. .....the bad ones, not so much. 😄

I would be pretty upset if I did this download thing and ended up having to wait like 2 hours the night the game comes out. I don't have the best internet right now so I am trying to avoid the download taking forever.
There was already a 3GB+ patch on day one that was rumoured. I don't what that would translate to in wait times due to your connection but maybe that a hint at what you can expect in size.

At this point it should be wrapping up development. Still writing it at this point would be nuts. Then again I did read an article where they have been making employees working 100+ hours a week to get stuff wrapped up for next week. Which is nuts in my opinion. It isn't the 1st time that Rockstar has been accused of slave driving their employees to meet deadlines. Makes me respect the employees for their efforts, not so much for Rockstar.
Personally, I could care less how they get it done. "Crunching" is simply a part of life in most of the gaming industry but it's usually select departments or people who are there for the final push in the last couple of weeks (not throughout development).
This also isn't some third world country where people can be treated as slaves. There are rules, laws and choice. I worked for a large corporation for 30 years and in various industries like mine was they do the same thing to push out product for end of month sales, reconciling budgets / accounting, inventory, meet project deadlines, etc., etc. and a lot of times that is on a consistent monthly and/or quarterly basis. ......I'm sure these these folks would wish it was a once every few year deal. I've been on the receiving end myself back in the day but it was a good paying job with good benefits, good people and room to grow. If it hadn't have been, I would have been looking for other employment.
Either way, I know some will choose not to accept any explanation R* provides but Dan Houser mentioned what he was talking about was mostly about his senior writing staff (including himself) during the last 3 weeks. .....and that it was not something he expected from everyone else:
Quote"There seems to be some confusion arising from my interview with Harold Goldberg [in New York Magazine]. After working on the game for seven years, the senior writing team, which consists of four people, Mike Unsworth, Rupert Humphries, Lazlow and myself, had, as we always do, three weeks of intense work when we wrapped everything up. Three weeks, not years. We have all worked together for at least 12 years now, and feel we need this to get everything finished. After so many years of getting things organized and ready on this project, we needed this to check and finalize everything.
More importantly, we obviously don’t expect anyone else to work this way. Across the whole company, we have some senior people who work very hard purely because they’re passionate about a project, or their particular work, and we believe that passion shows in the games we release. But that additional effort is a choice, and we don’t ask or expect anyone to work anything like this. Lots of other senior people work in an entirely different way and are just as productive – I’m just not one of them! No one, senior or junior, is ever forced to work hard. I believe we go to great lengths to run a business that cares about its people, and to make the company a great place for them to work."
I have no reason to disbelieve him and R* as given it's employees approval to talk about the working conditions with anyone who reaches out to them (which some already have with positive and some negative feedback).
Having said that, not all employees in a large company like that will be treated the same depending on their own managers, directors & VPs and opinions about their situation/ experience will vary. Some bosses are simply jerks while others are just the opposite. .....that's true in any large business. I've worked for all types to be honest and while some can make your life hell, others can make it a real pleasure. ......and this was all under the same roof.
.....but whatever makes a good story I guess. I just want the game.
EDIT: Seems my posts were merged..... The following is in response to the OPs original point that the writing is still in process for RDO and has nothing to do with the above discussion about "crunches", etc.:
Here is a link to the source article from Vulture. It's hard to tell when Hauser made the quote about still writing for RDO but it may have been back in August if you follow the timeline of the article. .....I didn't read the whole thing.

I didn't see any article about new information regarding RDO but you do realize it's still in development, right? It won't release until November and even then it will still be in beta. .....so as a beta what will be represented in the gameplay we see at that time will still not be the final product.

Yes, that's what it also says on mine as well.

Yeah, I think that's what it is then. I made sure to check the "auto download" box and I'll leave my system on standby tonight. .......guess I better double check I have room.

The pre-load isn't downloading for me yet, and your profile picture is great, that owl looks hilarious.
 Yeah, thanks.
On my PS4 it says that it is expected to download today although I hear it is supposed to be on Friday. My only guess is that since I'm on the West coast of the US, it will download @ 9PM PST tonight while for folks on the East coast, it will be midnight. ......at least that's the way it works for digital downloads on past games that I bought.
-
Personally, I would using GTAV as a benchmark instead of RDR. I think it will be more advanced than that with more detail, etc. We have already been informed that characters will react to weather and such.
IMO, GTAV was pretty good in itself with the randomness and transitions. ......RDR2 will be way better if I were to guess.

Yeah..... It finally showed up in my library and is scheduled to download on my PS4. I'll wager the day-one patch will be a few GB itself but it sure beats waiting for the whole game to load.

GTAV was based on the outrageous. It was a game world focused on self indulgence, corruption, greed, parodies and over-the-top behaviour. I believe RDO will be more about immersiveness in an era with more of a focus on detail and authenticity (to an extent).
GTAV:O and RDO will be co-existing side by side. I see no reason why R* would want to repeat the same exact gameplay experience of GTAV:O in RDO to be honest. It doesn't fit in the RDR game world and I tend to believe RDO will be a more "serious" experience by comparison.

Yep.....
Also, pre-loads apparently are going to occur this Friday for those of us who bought digital copies and physical copies appear to be two disks.
btw, the digital game will be 89.2 GB in size according to the latest reports so make room.

But the real question is, "will I be able to open a distillery in the game?"
Curious to see what businesses they will offer in RDO. ......assuming they follow a similar model to GTAV:O which I'm almost certain they will. Maybe owning a saloon where you need to source and make deliveries of liquor under threat of attack from the competition, highwaymen, rival gangs, etc.

The news I keep hearing is that the "story" is 60 hours long (not in "total"). If that indeed doesn't include side quests and other related activities, this thing is going to last me a lot longer than that.
IIRC, the original RDRs story was cited to be about half the length? .....and that game lasted me a long time with all of the other activities.
With games like these, I think it's tough to put a time limit on such things. With talk of RDR2 potentially setting a new benchmark in open world games, it may be even tougher with the added depth of gameplay, decisions, interaction, etc. that this new title is expected to bring to the table. I expect that it will depend greatly on the player.
-
Well, we know NPCs are going to be a part of your gang in SP and even being able to take direction to some extent in engagements but as far as MP, I'm guessing it will be only yourself and then any live players/friends you decide to team up with. I assume NPCs will be limited to those in the game world we interact with. .....but who knows.
My hope though is that there will be more of a focus on cooperative play rather than adversarial. .....at the very least that coop will be encouraged much more in this title.
I did hear that you would be able to (in the campaign) select what gang members you wish to bring with you. I don't believe I heard anything about limits although I would imagine that changes for certain missions, etc. In free roam, maybe it's only one or two?

The last DLC for Red Dead Redemption added additional Gang Hideouts that rewarded the highest scoring player with an Explosive Rifle holding five rounds that could not be replenished by ammo boxes and were lost if you died, unfortunately many players used glitches and exploits that enabled them to have an Explosive Rifle with ammo every time they respawned which was a nightmare for clean players because the Explosive Rifle had the range of a sniper rifle and the impact radius of a stick of dynamite.
I am a tad worried by the inclusion of explosive ammo, I'm hoping it can only be used in singleplayer.
Ahhh.... ok. Thought I remembered it being included in the game but don't recall using it myself. Thanks for the clarifying.
....and yeah, the inclusion worries me too. I also hope it's limited to SP as it would become an option not to use it which is what I prefer. .....but if it's included in MP, it certainly has the potential to become OP as you mention and likely become the meta for PvP.

Yeah, not a fan of the explosive ammo idea in this game. .....or at least the way I think R* might implement it. I hope it's limited to say a particular rifle and the amount you can carry, etc. ....and I really hope this is also only for the campaign and not online.
Having said that, explosive ammunition has been used and does exist. .....even in the 19th century. Although not with the effect that I would imagine R* has in store for us and certainly wasn't something most folks would have had access to I would imagine.
Didn't RDR have the same thing in a special rifle / DLC?

He could use that money to be a dick, but I'm hoping he isn't a dick. As someone who doesn't really play GTAO because I'm broke and don't have access to anything fun, I really wouldn't mind some quick cash like that to buy things worth having. I don't use my own cars because I can ALWAYS find a better one and steal it. I was finally able to buy a weed farm, but got sick of:
Can't resupply or deliver when I'm stuck using some shitty car. Without money to buy decent things, the game isn't really all that fun to me. Don't say "buy shark cards"... I can't justify spending money on something like that.
Like I said, I'd love to be in a private server to actually enjoy the game...
I can check later how much time I spent playing. I know it's a decent amount, and I know I never even got to 2 mil.
Edit: To be clear, I'm not saying what he did should be acceptable. I'm just saying I get it and don't blame him for doing it, nor would I hold it against him like I would with the OP example.
I wouldn't dream of telling someone to buy Shark Cards. I never have and never will. .....but I would suggest they watch videos that could help show them the more lucrative and effective ways to earn cash in the game.
I also play solo in public servers so I totally understand where you're coming from. I rarely stay in populated sessions for very long and never had the desire to grief someone. .....getting revenge on a griefer is a different story.

As far as reaching $2 million, I've spent that much simply obtaining some of my businesses in the game and aircraft. The Buzzard was a must-have and at some point I bought a Hydra. As for businesses, the first one was a biker clubhouse and then a couple sub-businesses (e.g. counterfeiting, drugs, etc.). A bunker was next and then a hanger and so on doning VP missions. .....but it wasn't until I became a CEO and bought an office at the Maze Bank bldg when the opportunities to make fast cash started happening. ....bought a garage and started doing car theft missions and then a warehouse to acquire and move special cargo.
I usually pop into GTAV:O once in a while and alternate between both of those mission types. I can easily make about $200k-$300k without too much effort. .....much more if I'm more serious about it. My most recent business was a night club which is generating about $25k per day on its own at the moment IIRC without much effort on my part. ....and I can still expand on it to make more.
I only wish I would have watched some of those videos I talked about before I bought a lot of the things I did as several of them proved to be either worthless or less lucrative. .....basically a waste of money IMO.
I also take advantage of the freebies R* offers usually for just logging into online. IIRC, there is one going on right now where they will give you $1 million if you already pre-ordered RDR2. They had one not too long ago where I got a few hundred grand a day (again, just by logging on) over the course of about a week or so. I think it totaled $2 million or more if you managed to signon each day during that period.
I have to say, that I use aircraft whenever possible and it makes traveling between businesses and even doing the missions (where you can use them) so much easier and efficient. I think the Buzzard was one of the most expensive purchases I made early on in the game but had the most value to me.

Again though, this one doesn't really have an impact on anyone else. I don't really see a problem with that, but understand why you got banned lol
It's the cheats that screw over other players that piss me off. You were just taking a shortcut.
I knew about it but never did it. ....but I also wasn't too bothered by it (in this game) As far as I was concerned, it made no difference if someone like that got their money from a exploit or acquired their wealth via Shark Cards. The result was the same. .....quick cash that can be spent on things to kill me. I worked harder for it but I still had access to the same things.
Hackers on the other hand, I have less tolerance for. At least exploits get exposed and then typically fixed. As far as griefers, they suck no matter how they acquire their money.
There are other ways to work the system to get relatively quick cash though (without exploits / cheating). Lots of videos on it.

Preloaded already... or is it?

Yeah, I'll be waiting for 9pm to roll around as well but I figure I'll have to wait another 1/2 hr or so for the day-one update to download. ....but after that I'll be playing till at least midnight or 1am. Not that I have to go somewhere the next morning (I'm semi-retired) but it's just that I can't handle staying up that late these days.
