Hey, I referenced a desire to have the username of a character from a film made in 1981! That's not exactly whipper-snapper territory.

My first car was (is) a 1969 Dodge Charger that was only 15 years old when I obtained it in high school.  😦   ......I still can't believe it when I think back on those things.

I am not personally worried as I don't intend on spending much money online anyways. If I spend any at all for DLC. I am more for just running around and doing things than trying to get the most money and the best guns.

Me neither (not worried).  I never thought the model for GTAVO was bad either as you could always still make money in game and acquire the same items.  ....although the price for items is rather high.  There are dozens of YT videos showing you how to make money fast in the game.  Although once the tasks, missions, etc. which make you money are no longer fun to do, then that's when I typically stop playing.  I never purchased a shark card in my life and never will.

In either case, I think GTAV:O has proven to be one of the most successful online games in history regardless of whether folks disagree with their business model or not.  Personally, I would be ok if RDR2 is similar as long as there are still a variety of fun activities I can do to make in-game money.  It's when companies start moving to a pay to win model, loot box system, etc. when I take issue.  ....and I believe R* when they said they are not interested in going down that road.

  3. If you're interested in experiencing RDR, I would play it first if you can.   Personally, I don't think I could handle going back to the old graphics, clunky mechanics, etc. after playing RDR2.  ....just wouldn't be worth it to me.

In fact, PS4 currently has a 7 day free trial for their PS Now.  I have been playing RDR for the past 2 nights.   ....although I am beginning to realize why some folks hate this service as it has proven to be pretty stuttery.  I may just end up bringing my PS3 from upstairs and plugging it in next to my PS4 so I can play RDR from the disk.

I didn't know online had been delayed?

THere is no delay.  They announced that online would be released as an open beta in November.  The move to release in beta is likely due to lessons learned from GTAV:O.  R* never announced that it would be released sooner than that and in fact was expected.  R* also has said that they want players to experience the game world in SP first.  They have already stated that they consider RDO a separate component from the campaign but SP is the base for their game(s).

R* has a healthy focus on single player and has made it known that in a world where others are veering away from it, SP is still very important to them.  The RDR2 campaign is going to be huge so I personally have no concerns that I won't get my monies worth.   ....although I would be happy if they offered DLC at a later date (even an Undead Nightmare 2 perhaps?).

As for GTAV, the devs felt the campaign was robust enough to stand on its own and quite frankly, I agree.  Although I might have liked DLC for the SP in that game, it was also one of those titles I felt I got my monies worth as I had spent many more hours playing than similar games.

There is a time when a game is released where the game manufacturer and say Sony and Xbox negotiate deals.  In RDR 2, in this process Sony got a 30 day bonus for it's players, whether or not it was Sony or Rockstar that made the offer.  From what I hear the bonuses that PS4 is getting will be offered to Xbox players 30 days later.  I still haven't heard will it be a free update or will they charge for it.  There is a chance it will be free, but at this point and the industries greed.  We may have to pay for it, if we want it.

Edit:  I did hear that Sony was going to release a special edition RDR 2 PS4, for this game as well.  The ads I have seen are nothing but a PS4 with the game and a few bonuses.

There is no additional cost.  These are items that will be included in the game but PS4 players simply get them 30 days sooner than XB1.  The Grizzlies outfit wil be available for SP while the other items (saddle, horse and gun IIRC) will be available when the RDO beta launches (for all RDR2 owners) in November.

I had a buddy years ago whose brother was making his own. Dude weighed like 350 though so it was going to take A LOT of rings. Not sure if he ever got it done.

You could probably get it at a Renaissance fair though (yes, they still have those).

I know.  My next door neighbor went to one a couple months ago.  I caught him and his family on their way out (wondered what the costumes were for).  .....I just smiled and said "that's cool".

False.  It costs PS4 Owners $59.99/year.

....and XBox Live retails for the same.  My whole point was that there was no additional cost to PS4 owners to get this content 30 days ahead of time.  Of course we are all paying for the content in some form or another including the yearly online service dues.  I'm not saying it's free, simply no additional cost when compared to what XB1 owners are paying for this game and the same content.

I would speculate that Sony in their negotiations figures it part of the price, xbox gets access 30 days later.    Now considering DLCs, generally are already done by the release of the game.  They just cut it out and release it later and charge you a premium price.  Rockstar probably planned on it being part of the release and Sony came in and made a deal to get a early release.  That is why I said you already paid for it.

Bringing exclusive content/titles to their customers helps attract potential customers.  I guess my point was that there is no additional cost to PS4 owners for this content.

  9. Well, being that we don't really know what will be in the game yet and how they will be balanced against other arms, I'll just mention guns of the period that I would like to carry in the game.  I have a few favorites but since we're limited to 2 each (long guns and handguns) here are some of what my picks might be....

    Winchester Model 94 (.30-30)

    Winchester Model 1897 (12 ga)

    Colt SAA (.45)

    S&W DA (.44-40)

Either way, there are a lot of cool weapons from that era I wouldn't mind using in the game but again, it depends on what those "50" weapons will be when it comes to my final choice.

  10. Many guys are going to treat women differently.  Call me old (well, maybe because I am) but in personal interactions, I still treat women with a higher degree of respect in the sense of traditional courtesy, etc.  I still open doors, give up my seat, etc.  That's just the way I was raised.

However, it's clear most of the encounters I've seen in gaming like this were simply guys trying to win favor in some bizarre hope they'll make an online connection with a girl.   It's a game, not a dating service.  In that sense, I too treat everyone equally.  .....and that is determined mostly by someone's personality, manners, etc.

I get a sense that many of these guys that display this kind of behavior in games are likely socially inept IRL to some degree.  I guess that's why I get visions of some lonely virgin playing games in his Mom's basement.

I could reel off a list longer than my arm for GTA but I'm struggling to remember anything that was leaked about RDR2 that hasn't come true. Maybe battle royale mode but that seems more of a decision not to do it than a false rumour.

Me too.  With everything else looking credible in that leak, I too thought BR would be part of RDO.  Zelnick from Take Two seemed to indicate that they were not really interested in a BR especially for the sake of it as some others are doing.  .....but he also said he wouldn't rule it out.  It would have to be something special.

I guess we'll have to see when they give us more information.  I have a feeling if they do have BR, it will be in a different form that what folks are used to.  Personally, I could do without it if it means resources are spent elsewhere making RDO a better, less toxic experience than GTAV:O was.  .....focusing perhaps more on co-op than aggressive PvP.

All I'm asking is why in an adult game with gratuitous amounts of gore it's frowned upon to have the freedom to have sex.

Sounds like you're misinterpreting people's indifference to sexual content in games as some sort of moral high ground.  If you read most of these replies I believe you will see that there is a common tone of simple disinterest in the topic in this sense.  It seems you're trying to create an argument where there is none.

Personally, all of those other activities in RDR2 sound interesting to me as I'm sure R* also thought they would be.  To be frank, I don't get the desire to have sexually explicit content in the game but okay, that's your thing.  I'm just saying that folks like me don't need it or necessarily feel it adds value.  I also don't believe you can't have one without the other as you seem to be suggesting.  .....as if you're saying it's not okay to have graphic violence in a game unless you have sex too.

I wasn't offended by the sex scenes in the Witcher but I also didn't think they were necessary either.  I wouldn't have felt the game was lacking without them but that's just me.

  13. Would be nice to be able to retrieve some ammo from those that you kill.   .......even cooler if the ammo is specific to the weapon(s) they were carrying.

In SP I can see a player possibly being able to find/steal ammo in homes, from traders, stores ,etc.  I don't know what to expect from online although I'll wager you'll likely have no choice but to buy it.

Oh I know. But Seeing as though in GTA online you could go to ammunation and buy... Well.. Ammo and guns, it will probably be the same in Red Dead 2 with Gunsmiths.

Ammo crates would make no sense tbh. And I hope R* keep the interaction menu out of this game. Ruins the immersion by it being in the game.

I also hope the ability to buy ammo in menu is not in RDO.    I agree that it would be immersion breaking in this game.  I also hope the amount of ammo one can carry isn't ridiculous like GTAV:O was.  That would certainly add another level of depth and tension to the gameplay.  .....IMO.

Okay. Define small capacity though. Personally, I think the game has confirmed so much gore that not including sex seems kinda ridiculous.

To be rather blunt, sex & nudity just isn't something I consider when I think about what I want from a "shoot 'em up", cowboy / outlaw themed game.  I'm more focused on the other aspects of the gameplay and mechanics of hunting, performing heists, robberies, customization, weapons, horses, weather, physics, online play, gunplay, character interaction, realism, etc.  Those are the things that will make a difference for me whether I find the game fun or not.  ......not nudity and sex.

You asked me about "small capacity"?  Let's put it this way.....   I don't need to sit through some graphic, sex filled cutscene to get the idea of characters falling in love, etc.  Like I said, animated sex / nudity simply does nothing for me.

I will say that I thoroughly enjoyed GTAV although the humorous elements of the strip club, etc. while funny the first time were not something I ever revisited.  Even then, they were relatively tame and a very tiny part of the game.

  15. Has nothing to do with feeling morally superior to anyone.  Gratuitous sex, nudity, etc. simply doesn't appeal to me in a game.  .....nor most movies for that matter.  That really isn't the kind of content I need to make the gameplay more enjoyable.  Having said that, it also doesn't bother me if it's in the game in some relatively small capacity.

Sorry, animated sex / nudity really doesn't do anything for me.  .....but if that's your thing, I won't judge you.

I didn't see much I didn't already know, but further cemented in my mind how beautiful and detailed the game is.

Yeah, I actually was a wee bit disappointed to be honest.  In the last video they talked about covering "missions, activities, enemy gangs, robberies, other things to do and much more including the evolution of sharpshooting using the Dead Eye system."   I guess it just sounded that it might go into a couple of more minutes of detail than it actually did.  As you said, it was all stuff we pretty much already knew.

The footage did look impressive though I am somewhat sad they didn't mention anything about another video and what that will reveal.  :(  Kinda hoping to see something about online play modes, etc. at some point.  That's the biggest question mark for me.
