Hi Hammer and welcome to the site.
I split off your post to make a new thread since this really wasn't a "tip" and also, I wanted to make sure it gets noticed.
Having said that the answer is no. In the story mode, you're playing a character and that's your name (Arthur Morgan for example). In online, your name is never mentioned in any of the cutscenes nor in the game world by any of the NPCs. The only time you might hear your name is via comms from another live player.
In the cutscenes and when interacting with NPCs in Online, your character never speaks either.

heres a tips for you rockstar if u ever read this : offensive and defensive mode is garbage , take exemple on diablo 1 in 1996 who seem to have a more evoluated system than your hostility mod . u either accept pvp or do not accept it ,, that it
and people abusing these glitches you shouldnt be proud of your self getting these cowards bad manner kills
I think you know this but if you want to make suggestions directly to R* and be sure someone from R* reads it, you're going to need to use their Feedback link here:

Sorry, I don't think you're really understanding me. I don't have an issue with griefers (barely happens, and when it does it feels pretty realistic), so don't have a 'problem' as such. I'm not trying to mitigate any issues. And as I said earlier, I don't use defensive mode as I personally don't like the whole invisible thing, I'm certainly not complaining at someone attacking me and understand the dynamic.
My question was much more specific - was it normal that he could attack me, I fight back, and he can press charges against me for my defence, but I cannot press charges against him for the original attack, which is what happened here, twice in quick succession.
It's fine, and I'll continue playing as I have been, and think that I have my answer on the pressing charges thing (it is blunt tool, tracking death rather than justice, so is what it is).
Thank you, all of you. Happy trails!Ah, ok.
Yeah, well perhaps the whole "headlock" thing is a way to get around it as mentioned.
Also, just to clarify, Defensive Mode doesn't make you invisible. You can still see people on your radar that are in this mode but they simply appear as a faded blue dot rather than a distinct, blue one. It's easy enough to see them IME / IMO although some say they have trouble with it. Either way, not a bad deal if your intention is to avoid randoms.
I rarely have problems with griefers myself but a lot of that is simply due to avoiding those I feel will likely cause problems. .....I know you know the drill already. You can usually tell just by observing them but then again, there are situations where these folks learn to exploit like hanging out in areas where it kicks people out after missions, etc. .....but again, I just don't feed into all that and it's usually a non-issue after a brief hassle.
The tools work but they can also be exploited to an extent. The good news is that Defensive Mode is there if you find folks getting more annoying and it does help in that regard IMO / IME.

Thanks. I wasn't in defensive mode, checked last night, so I would have been blue to him. The odd thing is that he was able to press charges against me when he attacked me, though, and I wasn't given the option to press charges against him. I was very clearly defending myself - I had to break out of a choke hold before I could hit him at all!
Well then, that's a big part of your problem if you're trying to mitigate issues with griefers.
I would recommend checking your state when you enter a new session like I do and switch back to Defensive Mode if necessary. I also check after running missions that may automatically switch me into Offensive Mode just in case.
It will make it more difficult for them to do these things to you and even if they do kill you, I find it's faster just to let them do it so you can be on your way. .....then you can parley, press charges or whatever and you will also spawn further away allowing you to escape their reach much easier. iME, they lose interest pretty quickly in that case.
Griefers are looking for a response. I don't give it to them and Defensive Mode really helps with that.
......and Im not even sure we can call them griefers in this case because when someone is in Offensive Mode while free-roaming it is essentially supposed to signal that you're open to these kinds of interactions with other players.
Sure, some aspects may not work quite right in the game but Defensive Mode really does make a huge difference to help mitigate griefing IME. ......better than Offensive Mode if you're looking to avoid this kind of thing.

.......and there you go. Seems they saw the light after all the backlash but unfortunately, left their employees to fend for themselves apparently if they have no personal time available.

Personally, I figure I'm at less risk going to GameStop for a video game or other related materials than I would be going to an "essential" retailer like Walmart where there would be a lot more people, though.
.......and I'm less at risk just staying home. Trust me, I wouldn't want to go to either of those stores.
My point being about the those other retailers is that they offer way more items in that regard than any Gamestop I've ever been in. They are more likely to have the item(s) I need. .....modems, routers, cables, printers, printer cartridges, paper, PCs, monitors, etc., etc. Why Gamestop thinks they are better prepared to handle these sorts of needs than these other retailers is beyond me. It's just one more chain that's open exposing (needlessly IMO) their workforce to this potential threat. Besides that, how many people do you think are going to be visiting Gamestop stores for anything but games / gaming needs?
.....btw, some of these other retailers have limits on the # of people they are allowing in their stores at a given time to help maintain separation. ....or you can order online and pick up in-store. ......or get it delivered.
Personally, I would say don't go unless you have to. If you don't have a PC for distance learning, some school districts will offer loaners. Most employers I know provide their employees with the equipment they'll need for working at home. My first choice would be to order online but you do what you gotta do.

State-wide stay-at-home order went into effect at midnight this morning for California. All non-essential businesses are closing. Or rather, most. GameStop is refusing to close and considers itself an essential retailer, telling any law enforcement agencies to defer to corporate headquarters. At least I'll still get that copy of Far Cry 5 I ordered this morning. 😆
I saw that news yesterday about Gamestop trying to justify that they are an essential business in a situation like this. .....you can't make this stuff up.
They say they "also offer a wide array of products and devices that are important to facilitate remote work, distance learning, and virtual connectivity" which is justification for them keeping stores open. They also say they encourage customers to use their online store. ......so why not just shut down the B&M locations and offer the online option?
Personally, I don't know anyone who goes to Gamestop for other needs other than gaming but who knows. I order online or in a "need it now" situation I'll use a retailer like Best Buy or maybe even Target's electronic section for cables, a modem, ext drives, etc. ......assuming companies who have their employees working from home don't already supply them with the things they need.
IMO, this is just them trying not to lose money and maybe even trying to take advantage of the situation by making more. They've already caught a lot of heat though so we'll see if they keep this foolishness up for much longer.

I hadn't messed with my mode, I never do, just ride around in whatever it gives me, so would assume I was blue. That was my first player encounter of the session. He was blue also. But my issue is more that I met the threshold for him pressing charges against me purely because I punched a guy who was headlocking me, then again because I returned fire, but neither of his attacks on me gave me the option to press charges against him. So it seems a bit off somewhere. I don't even particularly mind - I don't go around assaulting people, so presumably my status stays pretty calm, and when there's a daily challenge to keep low aggression for a day then I keep passing them even though I don't go on stealth mode or whatever it is. But it seems off that he can attack me, but I can't press charges because I didn't die, but he can press charges against me purely because I defend myself. I can see lots of low level players abusing that. And I don't want to walk around half invisible as it dents immersion.
(No idea if I was dark blue or light blue - don't know the difference and don't know how to check!)
You can check your defensive / offensive status in the Player Menu. I believe it's the last menu option at the bottom that will bring you to the screen where it will show your current state and give you the option to change it.
As for how all this is supposed to work, this is it in a nutshell although a couple of things had changed like the way the game is supposed to remember your last setting on the hostility mode although IME, it is always wise to check when you start a new session, etc. to make sure you;re in Defensive mode if that's your preferred setting.
QuoteThe Offensive playing style is set as the default and is how most players traditionally interact in Free Roam – free to engage in hostile contact with other players if you are prepared to accept the potential consequences.
The Defensive playing style is for those players who would rather explore the world in Free Roam than engage in conflict with others – and it’s designed to let other players know that you don’t want to tangle with them, as well as minimize opportunities for griefing. At the same time, Defensive players will not be alerted to PvP Free Roam missions and can not be pulled into them while in Defensive mode, allowing them to go about their business as freely as possible.
Players in Defensive mode will be indicated by a shield icon, will take reduced damage from enemy players, cannot be lassoed, melee attacked, executed or targeted with auto-aim. Defensive players will also be excluded from being targeted in PvP-related missions such as Player Assassination. Those who attack Defensive players receive hefty penalties via the Hostility system, while players who initiate conflict while in Defensive mode will be instantly pulled out of Defensive mode and also receive similar Hostility penalties.
Today’s updates also build on the player radar and visibility improvements introduced in February to create a smarter and more responsive approach to mitigating griefing behavior. The Hostility System tracks aggressive behavior across both Playing Styles, making hostile players visible to others and helping to balance the needs of players who want to get away from others who habitually attack or kill during unstructured Free Roam gameplay.
As before, player blips change color - beginning dark blue and transitioning to red as their hostile play persists. A bright red blip indicates an enemy. With today’s update, players will never receive Hostility or Bounty increases for defending themselves against a player who is blipped as an enemy, or for killing high Hostility players. If a player attacks another player, they will not be marked as an enemy to everyone - but rather to the attacked player only, who will not receive a penalty for firing back.
You can view your current Hostility level through the Player Menu. As you become more hostile, you become more visible on other player’s radars at longer distances and will respawn further and further away from your point of death – at the highest level of Hostility, you will respawn in a different region.
Hostility increases do not apply within structured events such as Free Roam Events, Free Roam Missions, Showdowns and Races. Engaging in PvP behaviors related to Free Roam missions will not incur Hostility increases while in the Offensive playing style, however attacking other players not engaged in the activity will cause your Hostility level to rise.
Press Charges: When a lower Hostility player is killed without retaliating they will have an option to “Press Charges” during the respawn period, which will enforce an increase on their attacker’s Hostility and Bounty value. Press Charges is not available if you are a high Hostility player or marked as an enemy to the player who killed you.

You can wear pant legs tucked inside or outside boots by choice in Story Mode. Seems odd the mechanic isn't extended to Online.
It is also in Online.

I have a beef with Rockstars fashion sense also. It's obvious that they spent a ton of time and money on the weapons but yet they make me tuck my pants into my boots.
I have worn boots all of my life and haven't tucked my pants into my boots since I was 6 years old! It's just the wrong way to do it. It looks stupid and unless you're knee deep in pigshit, there is no reason to do it that way. Pants should be worn on the outside to prevent sand, bugs and other garbage to filter down into your footwear. The last thing you need when at full gallop, cruising down I-75, is a friggen wasp stinging the p!ss out of your foot!
So yea, I agree with Junko. Let the ladies (and gentlemen) have some nice threads and let us old guys see a little ankle before we are shot in the back on the streets of Blackwater.🙂
There is an option at least on some of them to either tuck or wear over your boots. As for why someone would tuck them in, it could be to help keep the mud off their pant legs when walking around the streets, etc. during or after rain, etc.

Well that sucks sorry. Was good for me again last night, so I guess different servers or something. More animals but also a real range. Got my daily streak back up to 4/7 ad will be back on again this evening. Sorry to hear that it is still so patchy.
Same for me last night. There were certainly more during times playing alone (during missions), but I still had a range of animals in full servers.

Yes, as you guessed it, this is not an official forum for R* or Take Two. In order to contact them directly to submit your suggestions, you can go here:

One other thing I'd like to point out is that this site is comprised of a community of various backgrounds, political and religious affiliations / beliefs, etc. While there is not a problem specifically with what you posted here, I'd always ask that that folks please remember that and respect that others may not feel the same way they do in that regard. RDR2.org is a RDR2 fansite after all. .....not a platform to stump for personal beliefs on sensitive subjects, etc. Again, not saying you are but I just want to make sure we're on the same page so we don't head that way.
Anyhow, I'd like to say welcome to the site. As for churches not being open, there are a lot of buildings that are not accessible in the game.
In regard to content (or lack thereof according to some), RDO has grown quite a lot from the beta days and there are more businesses, properties, etc. to come. It's going to take time but just like GTAO, RDO will have a lot more as time goes on.
.....btw, I am moving this to the Online section.

I split off your post from the general discussion thread and created your own thread in the Online section. I also translated it for the ease of others to view so you can get help.

I’m not saying don’t take precautions, all I’m saying is we should keep this in perspective. The media isn’t helping in that regard at all. People are panic-buying sh*t left and right. Me and my wife just went grocery shopping and there was barely any meat or toiletries or cleaning supplies. It’s stupid, panicky people who can’t think straight that are putting a strain on everyone else.
I get it and I agree. Some people panic in situations like this and then stock up on items they really don't need to. Unfortunately, that forces the hand of more rational folks to buy additional items they may need out of fear those items may not be available for a while. .....kind of a domino effect. We had Costco deliver to us since it was that time and we really didn't want to go anywhere near that place. Luckily, the grocery store also had plenty of meats and produce they stocked back up on the next day so no worries there. I really don't think there will be a problem in that regard especially as stores place limitations on certain items. ....toilet paper on the other hand, don't get me started.
One cool thing is that beer, wine and booze seem unaffected which is great.
Luckily, we already prepare for stuff like natural disasters, service interruptions, etc. in my house so we have plenty of food for weeks if needed. .....but I prefer not to tap into that since it's quite expensive so we have frozen items, etc. that will sustain us for a long time.
39 minutes ago, Enoch said:I’m a nurse. Take plenty of Vitamin D, C and Zinc to boost your immune system and wash your hands. You’re more likely to die of the flu or a car accident than the Coronavirus.
What this outbreak has taught me is that people are more prone to panic than I originally thought and I need to get on the road to self-sufficiency as soon as possible.
I would just clarify that I believe the concern over the potential is warranted IMO. I also think (generally speaking) the steps and recommendations coming from our government at the direction of the experts is justified. The real problem will come from those that don;t take this thing seriously enough in my honest opinion. .....but we need to approach this all with a degree of rationality and calm.
As for the media and those individuals who decide to freak out, what can I say. It's gonna happen.

Animal levels were certainly great for me over the weekend. I don't mind having to invest some time in hunting, as long as I think that there's something out there to hunt. And there was! It was like the good old days on both Saturday and Sunday. A great antidote to real life.
Don't get me wrong.... The spawns are certainly bountiful for me although just not quite at the level they once were which I'm actually ok with.
I used to be able to run up and down that NW valley everyone goes to and have to stop about 3 times or more one way. I would then stop, turn around and do it again. Now, it's not as easy as that but there are animals / herds there as I first come in. It just takes more time for them to spawn in again. It seems I can't spam the area as quickly for herds / flocks like I once could but I can still harvest quite a bit.
-
This really belongs in the RDO section. I'll move it.
Sorry to hear you're still having animal spawn issues. The last fix seemed to do it for me as the populations for the most part have returned close to the level they once were. .....and if I'm going to be honest, I always thought the animal spawns were overdone previously. What I see now in my sessions is close to what I saw months ago but more balanced. ......although I'm not going to deny that I didn't take advantage of those endless herds, etc. before.
I know a lot of people won't be happy until spawns are the way they were though.

Coronavirus has killed just 66 people in the US. The panic over this “outbreak” is going to do more harm than the virus itself. And the media is loving every second of it.
.....and there are now over 174,000 confirmed cases worldwide and over 6,700 deaths linked to COVID-19.
I understand folks trying to put things in perspective in regard to deaths caused by other means, but that doesn't take away from the fact that this new virus is a real threat to be taken seriously.
If the measures the U.S. and other countries / localities are taking now were to be dismissed, the impact would be far greater along with the consequences.
The spread really just started to make an impact in January within China and then the rest of the world by Feb. .....we're still in March. If the threat had been ignored, can you imagine how much worse it would be now especially with how easily this virus appears to spread? ....how about during the whole flu season or over the course of a year?
I'm not saying there isn't senseless panic or a level of media hype over all this because there most certainly is. ....but I wouldn't dismiss the current impact nor the potential harm this virus could do if the measures we've seen were not being taken.
A lot of people are idiots when it comes to the spread of the flu, etc. in any given year. They just don't care or realize how their carelessness impacts their coworkers, customers, relatives, close family members, other children, fellow travelers, etc. I'm glad you're posting deaths from the flu in general because IMO, I don't think it gets enough attention. ......I just had influenza B and pneumonia in Dec / Jan which wasn't fun at all. Luckily my pulmonologist got me sorted out.
The impact of these measures here in the U.S. have already affected our family and community but I understand it as do many in our city. It sucks but hopefully our businesses will pull through and can get back to normal sooner rather than later.
