    Hello!

New Xbox player from Britain here. I've been playing Online for just over a week now, having spent most of my time in Fallout 76 before. Somebody recommended it to me, as - according to her - "it's basically just a big world you can live in", which is something I enjoy online or off. So far, so good, random murders aside!

The random murders have put a dampener on things a bit, but I've also had some fun times already. Yesterday I was in the Valentine saloon and three of us, without even communicating, got heavily smashed and had ourselves a random party. I also got invited to a moonshine party, which was... odd.

Anyway, I'm trying to play as a peaceful trading kind of character, rather than a gunslinging brute or outlaw or whatnot. I've only shot one

As is usually the case when I play a game for long enough, though, I get the urge to chat about it and go find a forum for just that purpose. So, hello!

I'm hoping someone can help me with some rudimentary questions while I'm introducing myself, rather than litter the forum with them.

Hi FOTL and welcome to the forums.

In regard to littering the forums with your questions, actually that is what we would prefer you do.  This sub forum was meant as a welcoming area and really isn't suited to answer a lot questions about the game.  Not everyone looks in here so you may have a better chance of getting more answers, suggestions, viewpoints, etc. in the Online forums for example.

I would encourage you to open new threads regarding your questions there and/or ask them in existing threads relevant to your topic if you happen to see one.

Anyhow, welcome and hope to see you around.

R* has said that is for the distant future. right now they want us to expeirence the wildness.

Kinda....  Although I think it's more about a feeling of progression and personal growth when reading the interview(s).  They wanted people to feel like they are carving out a niche for themselves in the frontier.  .....building up their camp, using it to run a business (Trader role), investing in it's expansion, etc. and building up from there.

They have plans for more businesses and such to be run out properties and the Moonshiner role was the first taste of that. They gave no indication when homes may become available but it appears they eventually will.  They did say they don't want to abandon the idea of the camp too soon so yeah, homes are likely something for the distant future.

Seems these big TUs come every quarter or so.  I expect more news at least in the next couple months of what we will be seeing in the next content drop.

Yes. I was talking about public session. Since all business need to be in public.

Well, when you do deliveries, they are visible to all players within a public session after a period of time.  You are made aware of that via a message.

It's not individual players that are alerted of this.  It's everyone with you in the session.  Same thing occurs in RDO.  .....so the idea of individuals who you report being privy to this information is simply not the case.

Im sorry for your bad experience, as I'm also the victim too.

To be truth from what i learned in gta online, reporting player hostile is not what we expected. The reason for reporting is to list down which player is hostile.

As in gta, rockstar will pick anyone from this list to spawn in our solo session, exactly when we start selling cargo. hardly to say that is coincidence, because happen all the time. I assume same system is apply in RDO. Those player wont be punished, as the game itself encourages them to do so.

Most of time i just set myself to defensive mode. Not because I'm scare with them,  but i just want my gaming time is worth to spend after working.  Rather than having bad headaches with them.

The in-game reporting feature is for reporting players who cheat, grief, etc.  There is an option to select the reason for reporting them when you use it.  For example, "disruptive behavior".

Has nothing to do with a player being hostile or not. It's for behavior that is not welcome nor tolerated for one reason or another.  .....but again, don't expect them to act on your particular report as I am sure there is more to it than that.  I suspect they look at the input from other players as well.  In other words, if you report someone for disruptive behavior, they likely won't do anything if your report is the only one.  However, if several others unrelated to you do the same, perhaps they will.

btw, randoms don't spawn in invite-only or solo sessions in GTAO.  That only occurs when you invite people in or are in a public server.   Most businesses only allow you to do deliveries, etc.  while in an open session.  You can't do most of that in solo.  In those cases yes, you have to be in a public server.

I was literally just wondering if the reporting system actually works. I just ran into some trouble, not nearly as bad as what the OP went through, which is absolutely sickening, although I have been subjected to being tied up and kidnapped one or twice, which is creepy, but once you've shot them in the face a few times, those solo players soon parley. However the amount of abuse you guys went through is... well I feel for you guys, its absolutely abhorrent that kind of behaviour. Anyway, today and yesterday I just seem to be meeting posses of dickheads, especially the one today, just kept hounding me. So I reported them repeatedly everytime they killed me. But I feel like reporting them is a pointless effort, the posse from today, is probably still online being assholes to other people, and they can do that with no repercussions.

As one or two people have commented, the only thing you can do is just leave, as much as you want to get revenge,  you just have to leave,

    A couple things.....

Don't expect that R* will ban or punish someone simply based on your report.  I suspect these types of people show up on their radar once several different people submit reports to them about their behavior.

If R* does ban, restrict or otherwise deal punishment on someone, don't expect that they will tell you about it.  It's not how these things are typically handled and may even be considered unprofessional to share this with others.  There are exceptions but in most cases, no.....they are not likely to share info about disciplinary action taken against another player with you.

Personally, I would use the reporting feature on the R* Support site if this is really a concern for you but something like you describe, that's just griefing.  I would use the in-game reporting feature, any blocking mechanisms on your platform and then call it a day.  .....move on.  Remaining in a session with people like this only gives them what they want and wastes your time.

I would also make sure to use the tools available in game to help mitigate your chances of being griefed like Defensive Mode, etc.

Since there are other people still playing I will ask here instead of making a new thread...

You know the Casino penthouses? Are those worth buying? I was going to get one but decided to get a new car instead but now I am wondering if maybe I should have gotten a penthouse. Do they do anything special?

Is it worth it?  I received the penthouse for free back when the Casino opened.  ....I forgot what that promotion entailed.

For me, this is where I start out now when I join online.  I exit to the casio floor and spin the wheel.  ......I already won 1 free car doing that, cash, etc.  I then visit the teller nearby and collect my daily visitor bonus of 1,000 chips.  I end up cashing those in when I get a bunch of them.

It's also convenient if you're going to be doing Casino missions.  For me, I think it would still be worth it simply as another spawn point depending on what I would be doing over a given period of time.  I also have beds at various other businesses of mine including my apartment which I have visited in a very long time.  The Casino has essentially been my HQ since it was introduced to the game.  .....but that's just me.

If you find yourself going there very often for various reasons and/or find the location convenient, it may be worth it to you too.

Yes. It's the running wheel right under. I call it clocking; sorry.

Had this last night when trying to load a Moonshiner mission.  Could be something they are doing on their end but who knows.  The previous evening, I didn't have this issue but did have two disconnects.  .....and one last night not including the loading screen which is typically rare for me.

I have sent some feedback on the issues, 3 times now. They responded once and it was not helpful, but what else is new. I guess if they know there is an issue and they don't have a fix, they can't be helpful.

The Feedback site is more like a suggestion box. They don't reply back to submissions or if they do it would be rare.  It was simply meant as a way for people to send in their complaints, suggestions, etc.

The Support site is a different matter but is used to report bugs, technical issues, cheating players, etc.

I was really meaning the online platform .... again I was only speculating given the timing

    So am I.

Months ago in a Sony Corp strategy meeting they had said that backward compatibility will include multiplayer.  Essentially, PS4 games will be cross-platform with PS5.  .....including their online modes.  So basically, if you have a PS5, the plan is that you'll still be able to play your PS4 titles and enjoy the them with your friends who still have the previous gen platform.

    Quote

"Backwards compatibility, in a networked era, becomes something that is incredibly powerful," PlayStation boss Jim Ryan explained. "Because the gaming community is somewhat tribal in its nature, backwards compatibility gives us the opportunity to migrate that community from PlayStation 4 to next gen using the ability to play the PS4 games they have on their next generation console - groups of 10, 20, 50 gamers. So we see this, given the size of the community that we've been able to accumulate over all these years and hard work on PlayStation 4 as a really critical success factor for us. We think it's incredibly important."

Deputy president John Kodera added that this will help Sony bridge engaged players from one generation to the next: "Cross-generation the community can enjoy the games together." Generational gaps are a common place for players to change platforms or get out of gaming entirely; if PS5 avoids that gap by letting friends play together across generations, I'd imagine people will be more likely to stick with PlayStation.

Of course, nothing is set in stone yet but with competition as fierce as it is right now, my money is on Sony and MS doing everything they can to make their new systems more attractive to buyers and in Sony's case, that has a lot to do with how PS4 players see PS5 and how they might interact with it with friends and consider upgrading.  I'm sure they see this backward compatibility and cross-system play as a great way to keep friends / communities together, get them talking about the PS5 and encourage those still on the fence to take the plunge too.

In R*s position, they may not want to introduce a "new for PS5" RDR2 at least in the immediate future.  If anything, they may want to wait until enough people migrate from PS4 to PS5 but even then I doubt they will make a remaster in the foreseeable future.  I think their focus will be on the community.  .....both PS4 and PS5 and will prioritize keeping that afloat in the form of the current build.

Besides, I have a feeling R* has other things on the burner right now like GTA6, the next Bully, etc. that will be slated for release on PS5.

Ok, I thought I would update this post as I ended up not reporting the player although I did find the route via a support ticket.

Would you mind sharing that with us?   .....or are you saying the route they suggest is the in-game reporting feature?

  11. 26 minutes ago, Herta47 said:

Does the same applies for Xbox? Because, you have to re-install the game on your new Xbox 2020 harddisk. Is any progress at the R* server/in the cloud?

Not sure. I haven't been following the progress on the MS side to be honest since I'll be buying a PS5 regardless.

For RDO I think it's stored on their end if I'm not mistaken.  .....for the campaign there are save files that are stored locally and backed up on their servers. Perhaps someone can chime in that knows more about it.

Go there, select the game and then game play. You will see the option to report a player group in the middle on the bottom row. Just do it this way. Seems to be the most effect and easiest.

He's right, it doesn't allow you to open a ticket.  I could have sworn it did before.  All it says is "The most effective way to report a player group is through the in-game menu. You can also report a player group using the tools on Social Club."

I would still open a ticket using one of the other selections and then let them know. Ask for detailed instructions as to how to do this via the Social Club if that is the only way because it's obviously not apparent to me how to through that site.

I could be wrong here, but I think R* has the bulk of their focus on developing RDO for the next gen consoles coming out later this year - they did the same with GTA V for the Xbox One and PS4 launches... I know this doesn’t help any of us and I most likely am dead wrong, though it’s strangely similar.

There's nothing to develop. PS5 will be backward compatible with PS4 titles.  I'm not so sure about a remastered version of RDR2 for PS5 but who knows.  I think there may have been more urgency to release a remastered version that would work on PS4 since that platform didn't have backward compatibility with PS3 titles.  They stood to lose a good portion of their player base as PS owners made the upgrade.

Now, PS4 players will simply be able to continue playing RDO on their PS5.  .....perhaps down the road but even so, I don't think that will stifle RDO's continued development and progress.

No based on complaints I have read everywhere online, not just reviews. I am only considering people talking about the game online, no one else. I have no way of knowing everyone who bought the game and their thoughts/troubles with it lol

I had forgotten about this thread but yeah, in all fairness you said "30% of people who have bought the game" so it appears we're in agreement as that was the point I was addressing.

I don't mind auto-aim so long as you are given an option to be on an auto-aim lobby or not. If there is an option, I have yet to find it. It seems like I am almost always in auto-aim lobbies.

In Free Roam, there is only auto-aim. There are no other session options at the moment as their vision for Free Roam doesn't currently include implementing such. That's not to say that they won't at some point as they have left that door open in past interviews.

Currently, free aim is only available in the form of PvP events.

Yes i agree and i stated this before also its a shame the progressing in the roles is soo easy and fast. I mean we dont want a Korean grind here but the roles could be streched and the prices for rewards/horses/upgrades should be a lot expensive to buy. It would give incentive to play and level and at the same time would be more rewarding for your time/effort. I guess they aim casual but still hope to have fun playing in this fun western world.

Well, speaking as a very casual player of RDO, I even find the pacing too quick in that regard too.
