Red Dead Redemption 2 for PC Update – Nov. 16, 2019
We have identified several ongoing issues some players are experiencing on specific machine configurations and are currently working to resolve them.
While this is not a comprehensive list, we have identified the group of key remaining issues below as high priority problems that we are working to resolve in future updates targeted to release starting early next week.
Crashes on Start Up
- We have identified several crashes as the game is booting related to certain settings configurations. We are currently testing fixes for these issues to implement as soon as possible.
Crashes After Start Up
- In the last update we were able to fix instances where players reported their performance degraded over time. While this fix helped many players, it also highlighted other undiscovered crashes in certain circumstances that we are now addressing.
"Mouse Cursor" Issues
- Some players using the Epic Games Launcher are experiencing issues with their mouse cursor. We’ve identified the root cause of this issue and will address it in the upcoming update. Until then, please follow the steps here to resolve the issue:
Settings Greyed out
- In order to implement certain workarounds related to ongoing issues, we have temporary delayed the accessibility of the settings menu. We will work to restore regular functionality in a future update. In the meantime, the setting options will be available after 120 seconds.
Framerate Stuttering
- Some players have been experiencing intermittent frame rate stuttering despite powerful GPUs. We’re working closely with Nvidia to eliminate the remainder of these issues.
Framerate Affecting Core Drain
- A small number of players are experiencing an issue where their framerate is altering how their cores drain.
GPU Drivers
Please note that many players are using older GPU drivers which have not been updated to support Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC. Go here for details on how to update your GPU drivers:

@The_Liquor is right. There was actually a thread about it at one point where we posted pics from that period showing folks who had crossdraw holsters, etc.
Here's the thing..... The main reason for someone carrying more than one handgun was simply because it was much faster to pull another pistol than reloading one especially a gun like the popular SAA Colt (represented as the Cattleman in RDR2)
A cross-draw rig allows the shooter to draw both pistols using their dominant hand. ....which is forced as the right hand in the game.
The whole concept of "dual wielding" is the ridiculous part IMO but its a popular thing in Hollywood movies and professional trick shooting so I see why it's included. That's not to say folks didn't have rigs like you describe but it would make more sense to me if they did it because they could shoot both weak and dominant handed rather than both. ......or maybe it was just a more comfortable way for them to carry two guns, or perhaps kind of stylish, etc.
Here's one of the threads I mentioned:

I got booted about 2 nights ago when I rarely ever do. I think it was after 45 minutes of play time though. .....I just logged off instead of retrying at that point.
We also had a friend that had lag issues and a couple crashes.
.....I did notice performance issues with my internet over the past few days really becoming a problem after 10PM leading to me having to reboot my router/modem. ....several times in the case of last night.
-
Now, I'm not really familiar with the whole posse system as I usually just play with 1-2 friends in RDO and I'am usually joining theirs, but I do know there are limitations on the # of posses a person can join, etc. that can cause issues.
However, is it possible they are engaged in a task, activity or even a mission when you do this?

When you said "wench", I was afraid to read the rest of your post.

Yeah.... I either let them bleed out if I'm skinning multiple animals or just shoot them if they are the only one I'm concentrating on at the moment. .....and/or I don't have time or desire to wait around for them to die.

Thanks for sharing @iFew.

I'd still report it to R* but in the meantime, I might be tempted to just try and Max it out now with a fishing marathon if it were me.

Also saw an article about this from PC Gamer this morning.
Thanks a lot @Anteronoid. It's appreciated that some are going out of their way to research and share potential solutions to these problems with the RDR2.org community. This is what it's all about IMO.

There was another hotfix today too. I posted it in the sticky thread:

at least the one consolation for us is that we're not alone and it's not our rig. But then again, this shouldn't be the case.
I sure hope RS comes up with a more solid fix (as they said they would). I'd settle for a partial fix. Its better than nothing. sigh
Make sure to keep checking the sticky thread on top as the hotfixes keep coming. There was another hotfix today.
I would also monitor the other threads as people continue to share new, potential workarounds and solutions they have found that may also help you.

-
Of course. Thanks for posting possible fixes and I hope people will continue to do so. Just mentioning it in case people didn't know. The last patch to try and fix the stuttering issue wasn't the actually solution but a stop gap measure of sorts.
-
Remember, there is supposed to be a follow up patch in a few days that may also help address this issue for more people. In any event, I would suggest folks continue to submit tickets especially if the updates are not fixing the problem for them and/or are making it worse, etc.

....moving this to the PC forum seeing that is a PC-specific problem.
fyi, I had seen a recent article from PC Gamer in regard to health core usage being tied to FPS (with a workaround by locking yours at 30 fps), but I have no idea if this is tied into this particular problem.
In either case, I would contact R* Support.

I did it by fishing. .....lots of fishing.

On PC right? .....report it.

What chapter are you on? Although not equal in length, that may be a better gauge to figure out generally how far along you are in the story. That's what I determined my progress in the story by when I played the campaign.
SpoilerHow many chapters are in Red Dead Redemption 2?
There are eight total chapters in Red Dead Redemption 2. The first six are structured to represent the main story campaign, while the final two represent the game's epilogue. Each chapter is comprised of a set number of missions, with chapters one and five offering the fewest at six and nine missions, respectively. The others generally hover around a dozen or so missions each, with the final sixth chapter coming in at 19 missions. Not only is knowing how many chapters there are in Red Dead Redemption 2 handy for overall story structure, it should help give players a feel for how long it takes to beat Red Dead Redemption 2. A good overall guide is that it should take around 60 hours to beat the single-player campaign. However, given that each mission (of 104 total missions) takes only around 20 to 60 or more minutes to complete, it's fair to say that the core game itself could be conquered in as little as 30 or so hours.
Of course, this number does not factor in side quests like gambling, hunting, fishing, or bounties. Given that Red Dead Redemption 2 is primarily a narrative- and survival-based experience, players can expect much of their time to be spent with such activities. As such, it's not uncommon to expect to spend just as much time with the story as with side quests. This would bring the overall playtime back to around the 60- or 70-hour mark.
Earning 100% completion in Red Dead Redemption 2 is a totally different story. There is so much to see and do in Rockstar Games' latest release, and between tracking down every cigarette card to hunting all legendary animals, players can likely expect to spend around 100 hours minimum to 100 percent the game. That's minimum, mind; it's much more likely that players trying to earn 100% completion will need to spend more in the ballpark of 200 hours to track down everything that Red Dead Redemption 2 has to offer.
Wondering how many chapters there are in Red Dead Redemption 2 is a bit of a gateway into considering how long it will take to complete each of the game's various challenges. It shouldn't take more than 30 or so hours to work through each of the game's eight chapters, but as for 100% completion, the sky is the limit. Fortunately, we can help players earn 100% completion quickly — head over to Shacknews' Red Dead Redemption 2 guide and walkthrough to learn all the tips and strategies needed to take down bounties, find collectibles, and track down every legendary animal.

R* has all the data and can see which series is more popular, etc. I'm sure that plays into it. They also take feedback into consideration.
We've been seeing the reappearance of free aim modes for example in PvP which IMO is a good indicator for folks who like that mechanic. ....and who knows. Maybe that opens the door to free aim lobbies.
I recall reading something in regard to R*s surprise that PvP isn't as popular in RDO as they thought it would be. What's interesting is that I see some other companies providing more coop / PvE options perhaps coming to the realization that there may be a larger segment of the community that enjoys this too. ...or perhaps instead of PvP.
.....but now I'm getting off topic.

Well just made my game worse with more crashes and more stuttering,.... what a mess

I've had something similar happen to a game a few weeks ago when the power was disconnected to my PS4. It was essentially the same msg I got.
In my case, another reboot resolved it though from what I remember.

Please take note that if you are having a problem and don't report it, you're not helping your own situation.
now and then I see a post where someone is complaining about R* and their problems yet they have the attitude that it is a common problem so others must have already reported it......"why should I bother".
The bottom line is that if you want to do something to help your situation, you're pretty limited. However, the one thing you can do is report it to R* and help bring more attention to the particular issue bothering you. Don't assume "everyone else is so your voice makes no difference" because it does. I can't stress this enough.
