  1. If you're talking about an exploit (and I believe it is if it's the one I recall), then I don't believe that is something Management would appreciate being advertised on their site.

Having said that (and IIRC), this is an old one from last year.  I would say that if it's not working like you read from Reddit, watched in a YT video, etc., then it's likely been patched already by R*.

I would also note that those take advantage of exploits like this are sometimes caught by R* and you run the risk of being penalized if you choose to cheat like that.  ....probably less of a concern in the campaign though,

To be fair here, I had to deal with a lot of people laughing at strict PC gamers for not being able to play the game so the memes are just being shot back now. lol

Well, this community tends to be rather level headed about such things so I doubt you'll get the same treatment here.

That is the thing, I am fine with people taking shots at each other in a humorous way but some people do get toxic with it. I never mean to personally insult people through memes. I just enjoy humor and it is the simplest forum of humor outside of knock-knock jokes. Not everyone finds the same stuff funny and things like this, console vs pc, may be offensive. As long as no one is causing issues in my thread, I am fine with it. But if they do, I will make sure it gets closed.

Well, as I mentioned earlier, as long as it doesn't go that route we're ok although I think I'll be moving this to OT as it seems more suited for that forum.

Kind of wrote my post in the way I did to highlight that is the problem - someone can be the aggressor but if they just don’t hit you, either purposefully or though being sh*t at free aim, they get to be the victim when you retaliate against their behaviour. That’s not right.

.....and I guess my point was that defensive mode was never meant to be a passive mode and works the way it does as intended.  Personally, I'm ok with that but I get that some may never feel that way about it.

I can understand that. You have to invest a lot up front if you don't want to keep updating every 2 years. I don't play many demanding games so I can get away with it for the most part but it does quickly burn a hole in your pocket and it is easier to just get a new console every 7 to 10 years then upgrading a PC 4 or 5 times in that time frame.

......that was with a top end rig.  Thing is, with the advances in tech back then there always seemed to be something worth considering to upgrade every couple years or so especially video cards as they were progressing so rapidly.  Also, if you invested in the wrong chipset then you may inadvertently lick yourself in to the same CPU and memory unless of course you buy another board.   ....etc., etc.

The games were getting more demanding each year and tapping into the potential of the latest hardware.  It was a matter of "keeping up with the Joneses" for me that I got tired of.

I think Defensive mode is as close to perfect as it can be. Defensive mode is not Passive mode. You're playing defensively. You still need to defend yourself but you have a much larger window of opportunity to react. Rockstar doesn't want to divide the players. I don't really like Passive mode in GTA. I can't do a lot of fun things and it pulls me out of the setting when there's a ghosted out player toddling around.

The next thing Rockstar needs to implement is Private/Invite only sessions.

    I agree.

    No, pretty consistent group.

But afterwards the delivery it's always

"So and so" has left "posse"

"So and so" has left "posse"

"So and so" has left "posse"

Me: come back let's raise some hell!

Them : "cripps is at 78 goods, I gotta get them done"

Yes, the money's nice, and there are a lot of benefits.

But, like I said we're just not rolling together as much as we used to.

Perhaps it's time to find another group?  ....at least for those times that you want to do the things you want to.  There are always going to be people who will help others out and then in exchange you help them out.

Maybe finding just a couple good folks you can ride with during this time is the key instead of a bunch of people.  I know some who will work on one person's tasks for a while or even the whole session and then switch.

Another example of defensive mode not working - yesterday I'm picking up a collectible when someone rides in and starts shooting at me. Presumably they're rubbish at free-aim though as they don't land a single hit. I grab my horse and consider just riding off and letting it go but decide actually I'm going to dish out some payback. So I arm myself with a stick of dynamite and land the perfect hit on player and horse as they attempt to flee. They press charges so I'm made out to be the bad guy and get medium hostility status for the following x period of time.

It doesn't work that way.  As Freak mentioned, they have to hit you first.

Defensive Mode is a way to help more passive players get out of situations that they may normal not have been able to.  .....and those times they cannot, they have the ability to press charges, parlay, etc.

IMO, Defensive Mode works well in helping break contact with aggressors and escaping the conflict.  If however someone does hit you, you at least have the option to retaliate without consequence.  I believe the AA restriction is also lifted at that point for the defensive player.

If you want to lay down and take it, that’s on you.

Just because I understand why someone would take preemptive action against me for being too close to their delivery, etc. doesn't mean I won't defend myself or press forward an attack that I otherwise may not have. This was never about that. It's how we view those who do and in my case, I simply don't take actions like that personally.

I see......   So yeah, I guess that was it then.

Either way, I guess if you were to take action / inaction or to wander so close as to warrant a response, I guess its really a moot point what your intentions were to those only looking to defend their delivery.

Different perspectives. My posse won’t fire until fired upon.

  12. PHILIP CARLIER: SECLUDED SWAMP-DWELLER REQUESTED DEAD OR ALIVEPLUS TERRIFYING NEW MASKS, CLUB XP BONUSES AND MORE

    8adc54be1261a488ba7cb56f6428f8e1d9739afd

Law offices across the West have requested the immediate apprehension of Philip Carlier, wanted for embezzlement and the murder of a fellow employee of the Lemoyne Trading Company. Since the killing two years ago, Carlier has lived alone, on the fringes, in the swamps of Lagras. It is said that this isolation, combined with a taste for dissociative chemicals, has twisted the middle-aged murderer's mind. This Legendary Bounty is considered extremely volatile and should only be approached by the most resolute of bounty hunters.

Pick up Philip Carlier's wanted poster at any sheriff's office to begin the pursuit and revisit the Bounty Board again after a brief period to replay the mission at an increased difficulty.

The loss of backwards compatibility was certainly a hit, but to be fair, it also drove the PS4's price sky high. Supposedly, at least. What I like most is the controllers (or at least the official Sony ones), which are just the right size and shape as opposed to Xbox's too bulky controllers and GameCube's far too square controllers.

My understanding was that it was the new architecture they went with was what supposedly made it too difficult if not impossible to run the PS3 titles from the PS4.  Of course, they also had the PSNow service which was cloud based which allowed access to them.  .....for a fee of course.

Either way, it appears the PS5 will be compatible with your PS4 games but we still don't know about titles from consoles prior to that.  .....although in my case, I don't really care to revisit PS3 games at this point with the exception of some remastered ones.

Yeah, the controllers.....  Never liked the XB ones and the DS4 versions were such an improvement over the DS3.  I like the placement of the buttons, etc.  Interested to see what the Dualshock 5 is like.

  14. PS5 for me.  I've always been quite happy with their consoles regarding quality, etc. The biggest ding for me was not being backward compatible but that's changing with the PS5 and is also another reason I would want to stick with Sony. ....so I play some of these same titles I already purchased on my PS4 on the more powerful PS5.

Thanks for the welcome. Since you are a mod here, I will ask you...

Are there any other "older" gamers here. The last forum I was on for gaming was mostly what seemed to be teens and twenty somethings. I am in my late 30's so I am hoping I am not an old fart on here lol

There are several of us even older than that.  I recall a thread where many of us chimed in. .....I'm in my fifties myself.

I mean, I was in the middle of nowhere without my horse and just had my revolvers (holstered). Not to mention the fact that there were four of them and one of me, and I was a good 200 yards from their delivery route. But to each their own. I’ll retaliate each and every time 😉

Player blips (unless you're hostility level is higher than normal) only show up on another player's radar when you are within 150 meters (164 yards).  When you see a player on the minimap, they are just seconds away from being able to strike while on horseback.  They can also be within sniper range.  Anything on your minimap is potentially a real and immediate threat.

I'm sorry, but if I'm making a delivery especially one that puts me in Offensive Mode, I'm not taking any chances.  My posse / partner will either try to run you off or attack if you're that close.  Most people simply run in another direction or give us a wide berth (while galloping away) just as we would in the same situation.

When I encounter someone making a delivery or participating in a side mission that invites attacks we never ride toward, never stop near, never ride parallel, never ride in a heading that may intersect with their path, etc.  Exceptions for me are in towns or other areas that players gather where I might give people the benefit of the doubt but still keep my guard up.

I've been hit by someone in a similar situation before but chalked it up to being in the wrong place at the wrong time.  I was off my horse near the road with them heading toward me and couldn't distance myself from them in time.  It's no biggie.  I would have done the same as it could have appeared as an ambush.

The fact is, you don't know for sure if someone is alone or working with others just outside the 150 meter range.  You can't see them but they could be on top of you within seconds.

When someone is stopped and/or maneuvering slowly, it looks suspect IMO / IME.   Just an unfortunate event is all.

I read those rules from rockstar Kean posted.

One thing it said was that you can't lock on to someone in defensive.

That hasn't been my experience with defensive.

If they shoot and hit me first, I remain in defensive, they turn red and I have always been able to auto aim on them,  Take them out and go about my business.

IIRC, that's because (in the scenario you paint) once they engage you, you are no longer limited in free aim and you can fire away at your aggressors without repercussions.  The restriction is removed for you so you are better able to defend yourself but I believe it is still in play for the attacker(s).

    10 minutes ago, Enoch said:

I don’t even bother with putting myself in defensive mode anymore after I got killed in an instant after the update. At least in offensive you can fight back.

You can still fight back in Defensive Mode.  You need to use it's features to your advantage though and get familiar with how it works.

  18. 23 minutes ago, Enoch said:

No problem. I found it quite hilarious when they all accused me of cheating lol

So who was it exactly that was making a delivery?  The people that shot you?

If that's the case, they may have misinterpreted the timing of your spawn near their delivery as someone suing an exploit rather than just dumb luck.  To be honest though, I still don't see that as "griefing" but simply protecting their goods if that's the case. If I saw someone suddenly appear near me while making a delivery I would have done the same thing.
