Hoe much better can the game realistically look? I am sure they will release some more pictures or video showing the detail in the near future but I feel like it won't be that big of an improvement. I can be wrong though so I am not saying this is factual.  I tend to approach things with a glass half full. It'd probably be a way easier choice for me if I knew people who were getting it on PC. As of now, only one friend of mine is and he won't be playing it much since he is still in college.

That's really subjective.  I say subjective because even though we can quantify just how much better RDO could look on PC than console, there are still those who don't notice such differences.  ....or perhaps even care.

....but for those that do, it will look absolutely amazing IMO.  You simply can't compare the limited performace of a console to the power and features of a good gaming PC.

In case you missed it, the PC version will also include:

    Quote

New graphical and technical enhancements for deeper immersion include increased draw distances for better navigation; higher quality global illumination and ambient occlusion for improved day and night lighting; higher quality snow trails, improved reflections and deeper, higher resolution shadows at all distances; tessellated tree textures and improved grass and fur textures for added realism in every plant and animal.

Red Dead Redemption 2 for PC also offers HDR support, the ability to run high-end display setups with 4K resolution and beyond, multi-monitor configurations, widescreen configurations, faster frame rates and more.

....so yeah, in answer to your question I would say "a lot better".

Yeah so get this..    I go about getting all kinds of three star skins, then spend an hour trying to get the camp to spawn.   Then it just kicks me because of a rockstar issue.     You guys have got to fix this.     You’re losing players left and right because of this BS.

Hi @Baltzenheimer and welcome to the forums.

First, sorry to hear about your connectivity problem.

Second, I think I should clarify that RDR2.org is a fan site.  We are not affiliated with R* nor Take Two in any way.

Personally, I would read the sticky at top and use the link within to submit a trouble ticket if you haven't already.  Submitting these tackets and/or our suggestions to R* is the only way we can ensure that they hear our voices on issues like you bring up.

    .....hope that helps.

So the basis I am gathering on the topic is that they are bound to have issues with hackers and people who generally exploit the game, we just don't know how bad it will be. I didn't really mess around too much online on RDR2 (console) because of the issues they were having when it first released. I am still on the fence here. I'll have to wait it out I think.

Griefing on console in RDO is nowhere near what it is in GTAO.  Part of that is by nature a the game has a much slower pace.  The other part is due to the features and options R* has provided players to help mitigate the problem.  Yet another is the fact that griefing is actually encouraged and condoned in GTAO.  ......not so in RDO.

Money exploits, spawn camping after missions, etc. still exists but it's really not a show stopper IMO / IME and doesn't really directly affect the players so much if you handle the situation properly.  Some of those hacks have no affect on me personally so I simply report those that I might see and go on my merry way.

How this changes in the PC version of the game will be interesting.

Rockstar has a dirty habit of listing stuff and not putting the fine print. They leave it open for a reason. Online might not be available till next year for all we know. We just have to wait and see. I know this will factor in the purchase for me though.

Well, in the console release they were quite clear that RDO would be a beta that was still a work in progress.  I know a lot of folks made assumptions but for me, it was about what I expected from their description.  I knew it would take time to evolve although I expected it progress a little faster than it did.  .....but that was also an assumption on my part.

....but like you say, we have few details right now but with the release coming in just 3 weeks, I would expect to hear more about it very soon.

I wouldn't be surprised if they want to delay RDO for a month or so simply so people can experience the campaign first without the anxiety of missing out on the online portion while everyone else is getting ahead.

Note - no need to reply "submit ticket to rockstar" because still requires login into account to do that.

.....btw, I believe you can still submit a ticket through Support under RDR2 without logging on thru SC. There is a sub menu that brings you to "two step verification" as a subject and allows you to create a ticket under that.  I didn't need to login to get there.

  6. I'm not a PC gamer anymore but I always look forward to what modders come up with in these games. I'm also not into RP (other than what the game provides) but I do find the world's those people create in the way of mods very cool.

R* acknowledges and I believe welcomes what the modding community bring to the table in their games. They probably see it as a great opportunity for new and creative ideas to blossom as well as talent.  ......it's not unheard of for modders to be hired by companies for their work.

I would be shocked if R* doesn't allow modding in RDO although it may be some time before we see the tools made available.  I just hope folks are prepared for that in the event they are delayed a while.

Look at companies like NWI. It was essentially created by a group of modders using Half Life to create Insurgency. ....and now Insurgency Sandstorm which is it's own stand alone game and slated to arrive on console next Spring.

......good stuff and I'm glad companies like R* recognize the value of the modding community.

I'm not going to waste my time looking up the article.  I just remember that one of the guys from Rockstar being interviewed and stating that this wasn't going to be a western version of GTA5 or GTAO.  No he didn't commit to adding DLC, he did state at that time, that they was going to focus to give the single player campaign the same focus that they would put to the online content.  Which to me wasn't done, by the mere fact that they haven't paid 2 cents worth of attention to RDR2 since its release, once it came out they dropped everything to focus on RDO.

I recall R* making several references to GTAV mainly prompted by people making comparisons to it because of its success.  ....and perhaps that they might sacrifice the quality of the SP experience to cash in on RDO.  R* was adamant that they wanted RDR2 and RDO to be a separate experience from GTAV/GTAO.  Also, that they were not going to skimp on the campaign.  R* continually stated that they love the SP experience in their games and enjoyed creating them.  .....and RDR2 was not going to be any different.

In all honesty, R* completely delivered on RDR2 IMO.  It seems you just assumed something different than the point they were trying to make.  These comments also need to be taken into context which is why the article / interview you keep referring to would be helpful.

For those that have a short memory, RDR was given attention as well as it's online game was.   Seeing how their actions have shown that are following the same routine that they did with GTA5.

To be clear, they have did very well for RDO.  It has became a enjoyable experience compared to what it was at release.   It doesn't change the fact 60 to 100 hours is anywhere close to the amount of hours that you get from RDO.

Well, RDR2 isn't RDR nor GTAV.  ......and again, they never said (that I know of) that they would be releasing DLC for the campaign like they do for RDO.

No offense but it seems you are looking for reasons to blame them for you being unhappy that there is no DLC.  ....at least currently.

  8. 3 minutes ago, YodaMan 3D said:

It keeps coming up cause prior to release, they made statements similar to "Oh, this isn't GTA.  We intend to focus on the single player campaign as much as we do the online content.  Then after everything is said and done, they have lied through their teeth about it.  Seriously, this day and age, if you have zero intent to do it.  Then say it upfront and don't make it sound as you are going to do something you have no interest in doing.   The online seems to be following the same business model that GTAO did.

Now with that being said, why yes the campaign was very nice.  AKA, why some players wouldn't mind that being extended.  Some of those would easily pay for extended content.   To me that is why this sleezy used car saleman act gets tiresome.   I understand they have the right to change their mind, but if you advertise a game for so many different playstyles and then forget about them cause you just don't feel like you have been greedy enough.

Sad part is that is the way the whole industry has been going over the years and being one that has a whole family that games.  Just tired of the snakes oil salesmen.

Yeah, I guess we would have to agree to disagree.  They made mention that RDR2 was not GTAV for several reasons including the fact that it was continually being compared to it in the gaming media in regard to GTAO's success, mission structure, etc.  I don't see where they lied about DLC being in the game because as far as I know, they never committed to it.  There had been a lot of assumptions though.

Some folks are not going to like the direction they take, some of the design choices, etc., but that's inevitable in any game.   I simply don't see anything necessarily underhanded about what they done with the game.

Personally, I also believe they have been quite open to the community requests and suggestions.  The continual focus on adding features to help mitigate griefing for one.  ....but then again, for some this still is not enough.

You've never really been a fan of RDO and that's fine.  ......but I don't see how that makes them sleezy, etc.

Is daily streak for role based challenges recorded separate to traditional daily challenges then? Or just as far as this bonus is concerned?

I would imagine so. It sure sounds that way.   .......like the Role based Daily Challenge streak will be separate from other ones.  I'm guessing these Role based challenges will be in top of "normal" ones but maybe someone can confirm.

I don't understand why they didn't at least give us some like extended missions or something at the very least. Being that they said they were going to have DLC made for the game awhile back but clearly are not doing it now makes me feel like I got ripped off in a sense. Oh well.

I never heard that they committed to any kind of DLC for the campaign in RDR2.  I'm not sure why that keeps coming up to be honest.

As for the reasons why, folks can disagree with their choice but see my 10/3 response if you want to know why they said they don't have plans to include DLC with RDR2.

  12. Just a reminder....  Let's remember to keep thing civil folks.

@lumper, I've been playing RDO since the launch of the beta. While I'll agree griefing was more of a problem back in those days since we didn't have the tools we do now to help mitigate the problem, it was far from the same nasty experience for everyone.

In my case I did have some problems with trolls but nowhere near on the level you did apparently. That's not to say you didn't have a lot of problems but not everyone did. .....and a lot of that was due in no small part to how I and my friends reacted to threats/randoms, how and where we logged in, using the RDO app, how we approached or decided which towns were safe, etc.

.....this was way before the proximity blips or any of that was even introduced.  We all had many discussions on the topic of "griefers" and we all went over a lot of the tips, etc. to try and help those struggling.

.....that's just my two cents though.

What was the main reason for them waiting for console? Wasn't it that online simply wasn't completed yet? If that is the case they had quite awhile here to be working on it for PC so I am hoping it happens day one. They did mention online right away without saying it will be released at a later date so there is that.

RDO wasn't ready for launch on console.  It was also initially released as a beta.

As far as it being available on day 1 for PC, again, we simply don't have confirmation yet.  Most of the stuff mentioned in the link I posted was about the story mode.  .....except for the GB bonus in online.  However, I expect we should be hearing more very soon.

  14. On 10/11/2019 at 3:44 PM, KVNknowsbest said:

So I heard about it being released for PC and my first thought was to get it right away. I been thinking it over though and I did completely the story (which was amazing by the way!) and played plenty online as far as the console version goes. So, what would be the point of getting it on PC for me? I was reading over some of what we know about the game thus far and it is no different. There is no real intensive here to convince me it is worth another $60 for the same game.

I didn't get GTA V on console, I actually decided to wait it out for a PC port and they did deliver on that. I did play GTA at a friends though on console and in comparison, the PC version had way more issues with the game. Issues with lag on servers. Issues with hacking and cheating. I mean I got burned out on it fairly quickly after completing the campaign.

Couple that in with the fact that they never did and DLC and well, I just felt like I would have been better off getting it on console and skipping PC all together. So I mean, I don't know here man. Are there any logical reasons to actually buy the game again?

TLDR; I bought RDR2 for console and loved it but because of how GTA V was handled on PC, I am not sure it is worth buying RDR2 for PC.

I guess the question is, what do you expect to get out of the PC version that you couldn't get out of the console version that is worth it to you to buy it again on PC?

There are obvious graphic advantages and the ability to mod if they allow it.  Hacking will be a problem as it is for many online games on PC but for PC players, this shouldn't be a shock.

You're not even making a case for the purchase of RDR2 on PC so I'm having a hard time understanding why it's even a dilemma for you to be honest.

Ah right, okay. I forgot they have "exclusives" for PS4. I am old fashioned. If you say it is exclusive, then make it exclusive. Don't release it somewhere else down the road just because.

I think it was actually referred to as "early access content" or something along those lines.
