I can see the allure of that.  The only issue is, if you have a restricted data plan with your mobile provider, it may not be tenable to pay for the service and then be data capped, preventing you from accessing the service on the road.

I suppose satellite radio would work too, but you don't have the same flexibility in terms of "on demand" playlists.

I do use the Google Play Music App to catalog an entire SD card worth of music to stream (rips from CDs).  The kids like their Iron Maiden on the way to school in the mornings.

Most of these services now including Netflix, Amazon Prime, Google Play Music, etc. allow you to download the music / movies so you don't have to use any data.  With Google, it's also a way to get around the 1 subscriber limitation that only allows one person to stream at a time which is fine by me.

My wife and I have several playlists we have created and then downloaded on our own devices.  It's like Siruis XM except that I have chosen the music I prefer vs. just the genre.  So I have 80s, jazz, more modern music, kids music (for my son), etc.  ....and my wife has her stuff too.

The cool thing is that you can choose the quality of the  downloads and even at the highest setting, it doesn't take hardly any room.  Sounds great and I have hundreds of songs at my fingertips.

I have XM in my car but after the initial free subscription and then a killer deal the year after, I never touched it again.  I guess they allow you to stream to from devices now but again, they choose the music while you're just choose the type which doesn't appeal to me.

Sorry, but level playing field talk in respect of the companion app is nanny state bullsh*t in my view - it was available to everyone, whether or not they could use it was a choice. Same as bonuses for ultimate and special editions or PS4 exclusives and early access. I have no problem that I’m missing out on ultimate edition exclusive items - it was my choice not to pay the extra money to have them.

I don't see it that way but yeah, ok.

I'm not getting the advantages of using it anymore either and I'm going to miss it.  I'll probably even submit feedback to R* about it.  ....maybe even suggest the minimap is included on the screen when fishing as I think that makes people excessively vulnerable during that task.

My overriding first impression is sadly - in short, lipstick on a pig. Yeah the new roles are interesting and hell i might even enjoy them if I could play for a reasonable time without a crash or being kicked from the server. But a whole load of bugs and nuances that were fixed seem to have come back along with a host of new issues. And then there’s the taking away of features like the companion app map and resetting daily challenge streak without warning or explanation.

Perhaps the only sadder thing is that I’ll keep logging on and regrinding the same old grind hoping the situation will improve.

Well, don't torture yourself.  Maybe it's time to explore another game for a while.

A lot of these updates have had bug issues but luckily, they've also had hotfixes to help sort out some of them.  I had two crashes last night too.  If this becomes a trend, I may shelve the game again until they are addressed.  ....after reporting them of course.

The loss of the map on the app wasa bummer but with the changes they have made over the months, some of its usefulness was already stripped away.  I'm not big on fishing but that's a good point as the app really helped given the minimap disappears during this activity.

I know there were a lot of folks out there who either didn't use the app or couldn't because their device was not compatible.  I'm ok with everyone being on a level playing field in this case as no advantage is given to anyone in this respect.

Well, here's hoping they get the bugs / crashes addressed sooner rather than later and as always, I encourage folks to report any problems and feedback they have to R*.  The more people who complain about an issue, the better our chances are of seeing it fixed.

Also with the Trader, the longer delivery will message the sever that you're making a delivery and will kick you out of passive mode. While the shorter delivery won't message the server & you can stay in passive mode.

With the bounties, as you rank up you will see the Rewards have more dollar signs. Novice level you will see Reward $ next tier up you will see Rewards $$ & so one. To get the max payout & xp, capture the bounty alive & walk into the sheriffs office with 30 seconds or less on the timer. Same method as for stranger missions.

Some bounties you will have to capture 2 or 4 total bounties which will give you more money & xp too.

Good to know about the defensive mode and longer delivery destinations.

I'm also curious to put those wagons into practice to see how they change things up.  I'm guessing you can execute more bounties out in the field with the bounty wagon before you head back in.

    My first impressions...

I could do a long post but don't want to spoil anything yet.

Bounty Hunter was my main gig yesterday, and actually enjoying it but it was buggy ... couldn't lasso targets and some gang members impossible to kill.  They say dead or alive and I was racking up the kills but alive seems to pay out better.

Alive will definitely pay out more.

Seems to be some side jobs when delivering the Cripps goods but they where buggy too,  as to be expected.

IDK I'm happy with the gun changes ...Bolt action seems to be back to where it was with express ammo b4 last update but looks like they nerfed high velocity on that and the Springfield. Springfield seems slower to load though.

The Springfield was definitely changed and mentioned in the patch notes.  So were other weapons in relation to distance I believe and how they are fired (e.g. from the hip, through a scope, etc.) .

Allot to digest in 1 day but they added some stuff worth taking a longer look at.

Yeah I noticed that too.  Nice change.

I could swear I remembered being told we could now edit our online characters after the update without losing anything? I see delete character here but I do not wish to do it unless I am 100% certain I wont lose all my progress.

    • The ability to change your character’s appearance without resetting progress

You access it by going to the online menu (left d-pad IIRC) and it should be under online options (change appearance).

  7. As far as the trader, the difference between the long and short deliver locations is the risk vs. payout.  You get more for delivering to more distant drop-offs but you risk more by exposing yourself longer.

This is similar to how some of the businesses work in GTA like the garages where you stole and then delivered cars.  You had similar choices when delivering.

  8. I have bought all of my games as digital copies for the last few years.  I rarely get any in physical form.  I'm comfortable with that though.

I also don't buy music and prefer a service.  ....which is Google Play Music at this point.  We use it in the cars, at home and everywhere in between.  I used to use it in the office back before I retired.  To me, it's not unlike Netflix.

It seems you can now multitask a bit while doing collector jobs sometimes random events pop up

Yeah, it doesn't lock you into the roles but simply opens up new opportunities and activities unique to those roles so you have more that you can do.  Once I get all 3 going for myself, I can certainly see bouncing between them when I want to grind out money, get in a little action, explore, etc.  I'm guessing then I will begin to see the random events from all 3 as I travel around.

Let me know how it goes.  I have it preordered, but I'm not married to the idea of buying it when I'm still dabbling in RDR2 and TD2.  I'd have to give one of them up, and I'm not particularly keen on doing either at the moment.

I stopped playing the Breakpoint beta on Saturday.  There were just too many things that irked me about the direction(s) they took this game.  Haven't heard from my friend yet but he'll likely follow my lead on this one given how we tend to like the same things in games.

I'll be playing the MW beta this weekend though.

  11. We didn't get a lot of time with the new mechanics and to be honest, a good bit was spent on trying to get used to the controls again.

However, I dig the new roles so far and can see this adding more activities to keep me busy.  We hooked up with the trader and collector roles and bounty will be next.  .....the latter seems like it might be the most exciting of the 3 but I can still see plenty of value in the other 2.

I like some of the changes to the animations except for the reloads.  I thought those needed to be slowed down, not sped up.  Still getting used to the damage adjustments as we weren't really in any firefights except a quick one (random event on the side of the road).

Hope to delve in a little deeper tonight.

I'm very late to the party (got the game for Christmas from the kids), played the single player, but only two weeks into my online experience.  One question about the update:  does anyone know why there's extra free content for PS4 and nothing for us Xbox users?  I didn't realise that the game developers distinguished, or did RDR release first on PS4 or something?

    Thanks in advance!

Sony negotiated for exclusive promotions / content with R* on this game.  The items for the most part (if I'm not mistaken) eventually have / will get released to XB1 players as well.

I feel like the news cocking animations are so unrealistic. i mean, nobody can cocking/reload a bolt-action rifle so fast.

so what is wrong with the old reload/cocking aniamtions? was there anyone who dislike the old animation?

I could get over the cocking animations but reloading is beyond ridiculous and always has been.  I didn't see a need to speed that up and actually would have preferred to see it slowed down.

Definately unfair advantage.maybe not to those who dont grief but those who do have ruined it for others.gonna have to keep eyes on the little radar like the rest of us haha.that safety net has gone from the app.

It was essentially gone once the proximity blips came into play.  The app map only provided a little bit more detail for those just outside of the radar but you can still see them on the edge of your radar.

The only real advantage was being able to look at the map and plot routes while on the move.  .....which does give the player using it a bit of an advantage in that respect.

Just spotted this in the release notes:

"Map functionality of the RDR2 Companion App no longer works with Red Dead Online"

    Seriously Rockstar, WTF?? 😡😡😡

Yeah. I was bummed about that too.

It lost part of it's usefulness when the proximity blips became a thing but was still really handy to plot paths and such.

I dunno.....  Maybe they thought it was an unfair advantage to those who used it and wanted to level the playing field.

At 11gb that’s wise forward thinking! I managed to do the same earlier so it was ready to go when I was able to play.

I'm semi retired and home most of the time so I  just checked back every once in a while until it was done.   It was a slow download perhaps in part due to the traffic?
