    Does that make sense?

I'll agree that R* is most certainly a business.  .....a publicly traded one at that.

I know some folks hate MTXs but the GaaS model is where it's at and one thing is for certain........   R* has one of the most successful examples of it in the industry. ....and that kind of success isn't realized without the customer base to back it up so they must be doing something right.

Personally, I don't have a problem with it in GTAO or RDO up to this point.

  2. I went ahead and deleted the last post from this thread.

I think @DylBandit would agree that the topic is being blown way out of proportion by some and we certainly don't need this to steer into a political argument or politically aimed insults as that was never the intention.  There was nothing in the creation of this thread meant to insult American Indians / Native Americans.  .....quite the opposite actually.

This can definitely changed throughout the life cycle of Red Dead Online, just because small things are locked behind gold are not really necessary now, doesn't mean they won't add important things later down the line locked behind gold bars.

I'm not saying it won't change.  .....but since they implemented the GB system and have been introducing "exclusive" GB-only items, it hasn't been that way.  I prefer to judge things like these on the here and now rather than speculation of an MTX strategy counter to what they have shared and what we know now.

If they do go down that path of locking a lot more things behind GBs especially ones that affect gameplay, etc., then my opinion might change.

Some people just don't have the time in their everyday lives to "grind" and work for something in the game, so people just want to have fun. R* doesn't really give enough gold for missions for that to be possible, you'd have to sit and play for hours and hours until your fingers fall off, and play again the next day just to dump it all on things like gun customization. This was the exact same story in Grand Theft Auto Online, things costed way to much, money was kind of hard to earn in large amounts, and people weren't having fun. You may not care what is only exclusive for gold bars, but others do, so as much myself, I just wanted to change the colors of my guns "FORK OVER THE GOLD CAPTAIN!" - Lol

I don't either.  I guess you missed the part of my post where I mentioned just how much time I spent in GTAO and just what I've been able to amass without my fingers falling off.  Sure, there is a grind but that's no different than a lot of games like this. The difference is whether or not the activities in the game that allow you to collect the things you need (e.g. in-game cash, loot, XP, etc.) is entertaining enough to keep people playing.

I've already got 1/3 the time in RDO than I do in GTAO over the course of 4+ years.  .....I even walked away from RDO for a while.   To be honest, it's really not that hard to collect money or gold for that matter especailly wit hthe freebies they've been giving out and the increase in gold nugget payouts.  I also took advantage of the 1GB per lvl last week as I leveled up from 65(?) tpo 70 dduring that time.

There are a lot of others who have put much more time into this game than I ever will.

Hold on a second.  Red Dead Redemption 2 sold through more than 23 million copies in the third fiscal quarter ended December 31. So let's do some simple math here, what's 23,000,000 times ($60 a copy). Yeah we are talking $1,380,000,000 and that's just "standard addition". I'm not sure the statistics on deluxe editions etc. So, it's actually more than the amount I just calculated. Red Dead Redemption 2 has has made over $1.3 BILLIONS DOLLARS and they need additional revenue? Not to mention they made way more with Grand Theft Auto 5 sales alone, not even including micro-transactions.

There are a whole lot of things you're not factoring into the mix here including expenses to cover a company consisting of over 2000 employees.....  Associated costs of properties, employee benefits, payroll, taxes, marketing, customer support, contractors, legal, etc., etc.

Sure they made a profit on GTAO and RDR2 but without ways to continue to make revenue on a game, support for it will not continue.  A game can be successful upon release but it needs to continue to bring in revenue to support it and all the overhead associated with that.  .....and still maintain a profit.

The only reason games like GTAO (and hopefully RDO) continue many years after release is because they are still profitable.

Don’t worry. I’m not going to win this one. I get why people wouldn’t want to hear some certain other people (personally I just mute the odd offender to the ear-balls as I come across them. It’s not like it’s absolutely everyone). But it really does take a lot out of the online world when people don’t interact with each other in my opinion.

I understand what you're saying.  This is one of things where I think it sounds better in theory than in practice.  .....but when it works, it works.

IMO/IME, I find that either people refuse to communicate or they do something that forces me to have to mute them (e.g. eating, background noise, play music, bad quality comms, shout expletives/racial slurs/insults, etc.).  A lot of times I simply find most randoms that use the mic really annoying.  I will say however, that there are moments when it all comes together and you have a really good experience with it.  .....but those moments are too few and far between to warrant the use of it most times for me.

Hell, even it games where it really should be a "must have" (e.g. small, squad based tactical shooters), I still run into the same issues and most will revert to party chat with just their friends.  ......the rest of the squad are on their own.

to all those that said "I just like to play the game" cheers to you, this thread wasn't for you. I was just throwing this out there for those that want to level up quick and they are out there hence all the youtube videos on the subject. you're not going to get more than 25xp per kill doing anything else and executing them is such a stress relief and the animations are pretty cool. standing in a town shooting people over and over I would find boring myself plus you don't get as many xp.

.....folks are simply sharing their own ideas/feedback on the topic FreeBird.  Kinda what these forums are all about, eh?

  8. Like @Parzival said and in fact, that's spot on.

The RDR2 locations even roughly coincide with general regions in the U.S.

The deserts of the the SW, the Rockies in the NW, the Great Plains, Appalachians in the E/NE,  the swamps of the South and various stuff in between.

As for Annesburg, it could represent a real town or any one if the many coal mining towns found in the Appalachian region.

You can tell that the placement of locations in RDR2 coincide with regions found in those same areas.  .... N, S, E, W and everything in between.

  9. Hi Kiara and welcome to the forums.

I'm going to go ahead and move this to the main online forum as the recruitment forum is really just for those trying to find others to play the game with.

If no one else has advice as to how to fix your problem, I would do as @DNMNetTech said and contact R* Support to see if they can help.

Hardly what I would consider a fix because frankly, it isn't.  ......but glad you found your own solution through the purchase of a different console.

  11. Easy folks.....   I only mentioned the age of the thread as an FYI to @lumper as he was directly replying to the OPs 6 month old post.  I didn't know if he realized the age as sometimes that can happen (folks don't notice the dates when a thread is bumped).  I

I'm not busting anyone's balls let alone yours @Vaderspupil for resurrecting this thread to ask your question.  ......otherwise I would have mentioned it when I answered the first time.

Either way, it's not a big deal nor did I intend to make it one.  I guess I could have been more specific, sorry.

  12. As Lumper mentioned, the official Android / iOS app is really helpful especially since you can still view the map while fishing (you can't see the minimap in the game during this activity).  You can also zoom in and out so it's easier to navigate on the fly, view terrain while on the move, get an exact location of where players are that appear on the edge of your minimap, etc.

Also, when you join a new session, choose a region that is at a least a couple states away from where you want to go.  The game tends to spawn players into areas where most others are.  Traveling away from your spawn point will help reduce the chances of running into others while you fish, hunt, harvest, play side missions, etc.

Posse up.....  There are a lot of good folks in these forums.  Mingle and find a friend, two or a whole group that's willing to let you play with them.  Find the right people and they can help make your experience easier and more fun.  It's always nice to have someone to ride along with that can watch your back and increase your chances of success.

Remember, Defensive Mode is a tool much like ability cards.  Used right and it can help mitigate the chances of being griefed.  Use it like a passive mode, and you will be sorely disappointed.  Don't put yourself in the position where you can be shot in the back.  When visiting merchants, keep an eye on where players are around you

Beyond all this, the most important factor IMO/IME to helping make your experience as "grief-free" as possible is through your own choices and actions.  .....your playstyle.  You have to treat all randoms players as potential threats, don't get complacent and try to avoid situations that make you vulnerable.  Don't ride into a town full of players without a plan. Keep an eye on their actions and locations, don;t loiter and get in & out.  ....or simply go elsewhere to sell/buy your goods.

Personally, I've never really had a huge issue with griefing even during the early days of the beta simply because of the way I play.  .....but much less so after the implementation of the the proximity / hostility changes and now with the new Defensive Mode.

Over time, you can even begin to identify certain patterns and/or behavior to watch out for in randoms that can help you gauge their intent.  ....although that is never a guarantee so again, good situational awareness and caution is always advised.

I can't speak for others but My friend(s) and I have been having a blast lately with little to no issue with griefers.

I thought they had changed these missions to that only players with low honor or high hostility could be targeted for these missions?

Nope. What they said was that those with high hostility would have a higher probability of being chosen as the target.

Quite honestly though, I was beginning to think they got rid of those missions as I hadn't seen one pop up in a long time. ....and I've been doing quite a few side missions.

In my opinion, not including any Native American content based on it being a somewhat touchy subject due to the history of the time period makes about as much sense as not including any content for black people due to the atrocious state of civil rights during the post war era.....

I was thinking the same thing....

  15. Hi and welcome to the forums.

My suggestion would be to never message someone or speak to them through chat with vulgarity, insults, etc. regardless of what leads to the exchange, if they report you, MS or R* have to act on the evidence they have. ......and being griefed is never an excuse for breaking the rules.

You say you couldn't leave but actually you can. You can change sessions. You can also block people if you're on PS4(I think there's something similar on XB1), show yourself as "offline" to help prevent people from following you between games and so on.

When you engage griefers like this, that is exactly what they want. ......to get under your skin. In this case, they did exactly that and once they know that, they won't stop.

I'm level 70 and I rarely get griefed and even less so with the new features. .,...but then again, I also use them to my advantage.

btw, I had to remove the screen shot as we don't allow naming and shaming on these forums. I'm also moving this to the main RDO forum as this thread has more to do with a topic than an introduction.

But, much like a padlock isn’t going to stop a dedicated thriving prick from taking your stuff, defensive mode won’t stop a dedicated ass of a griefer from killing you while he makes videos of himself giggling like a prepubescent girl...

    ....good analogy.

With theft deterrent devices you know that any one solution is not likely to be foolproof but the point is to make yourself less of an easy mark so criminals move on to more vulnerable prey.  Theft deterrents also require a level of action on the part of the user in order to more effective.   .....much like the anti-griefing features in the game.

Defensive Mode is simply a deterrent to help mitigate the issue of griefing, not a way to stop it.  .....but like the example above, a big part of making yourself less of a target really depends on how you use that feature to your advantage (not the attacker).
