Actually happened to me twice for the very first times yesterday.
Usually I might find one or two on the ground, but I found a flock of 6 flying over head, twice and was able to get 3 of them once and 4 the other time.
I shot all but one but one or two landed in deep water, DOH!
I feel like in the last 2 months they havent been very apparent.

You are welcome man, good luck and have fun, a few other tips, if you are fishing for lets say large mouth bass, and after 3 or 4 you dont see one, put on bread and catch a few smaller fish and in that time usually other bass will spawn, if not, cast way way out past where your dead eye can see, and usually you will start hooking up again, no reason to bail on a spot, I get all 10 of each, Large mouth, small mouth and steel heads when I do a cash fishing loop.
Also, predict where the fish will go and lead them, like shooting at a flying bird or airplane in other games, you have to kind of lead them same with this, stubborn fish will take the bait if you cross their paths, AND,
Lastly a move I use a lot, if the fish are near but not close enough to hit yet, put the tip of the fishing pole down quickly and let the line go slack a hair, then very slowly let it come back to center on the stick, so you are essentially "jigging" when you do this, your bait will drop straight down toward the bottom and then appear to swim upward and toward you, mimicking a fish and this is irresistible to the fish you are hunting.

The only problem with fishing near Blackwater is you often find trouble going to or coming from the butcher, I ad a set up, where I would catch a lake sturgeon run it to the butcher and turn around and get another, it is literally right across the st down a little so very fast turn around, but in the end I was attacked so many times I gave up on it.
The only spots I never had trouble was Cumberland Falls, Shady Belle, and Flat iron lake over near Clemmens point, as I said early, I have caught over 4000 fish, and I can tell you if I fond a loop I can do with no trouble I stick with it, all the ones mentioned work well, but you always have to keep an eye out, f you see a blue blip approach, I tend to talk to them, try to get a dialogue going, if not I get my guard or I just leave, if a red dot comes, I leave, before they get close enough to see my blip.

Nope, if you remember npc's still do ambushes in online, the gang all through the story says things like, we dont steal from regular folk, hard working normal folk, and they are thieves with honor, they steal from people like Leviticus Cornwall not joe shmoe,
Charles and Arthur especially had a lot of honor when it came to farmers, ranchers, etc..
There is no reason to EVER sneak up on a guy fishing and kill them, none, its not honorable, its not necessary, it gives the killer nothing for it, no reason to do it other than to ruin someone elses time, go ambush npc's if you must, or go to pvp where everyone expects a gun fight, if you are one of the people who are an opportunist, and you just shoot at anyone that you happen to come across then you are part of the problem, you are trying to force others to play with you, to play the way you want too and not letting them play the way they want too, that is the behavior of a spoiled kid acting like a brat, bwahh I want it my way and now im going to shoot you in the back just because I like that yay me!! its poor behavior.
There are so many examples in the story mode where the characters make it clear they dont ambush regular people, good people people they dont know for no reason are off limits

No, thats not normal, free roam is a place to explore, role play, level up, get your tonics, crafting materials and meats, etc.. play stranger missions, replay story missions, etc.. even posse up and go find other posses that want to fight and have gun fights, sure, but seeing a player not bothering anyone, and going out of your way to shoot them when they arent looking , or sneaking up on them while they fish to kill them is not part of the game, or just how it is, its a choice, and the whole reason we are getting a hostility system.
People can have all the fun they want, but as soon as their fun is ruining other peoples time online and it isnt fun for all parties then it is txic and not fun for the player getting needlessly killed.
Its a matter of treat people the way you want to be treated, problem is too many people are bored and they actually want confrontation, while other players are newer and do not, they just want to hunt, fish, level up, play missions, etc.. so they can get equipped for the real reason to play this game, the pvp as it gets going more and more, if your playing is upsetting people and costing them time and money by taking their carcasses via shooting them and their horse then its not the way it is supposed to be.
Sure there is something to say about the dangers of being out there alone, but at the same time if you cant go to ANY butcher because people are just hanging around them looking for unsuspecting players then the game starts to just suck, only the people doing the ambushing are having any fun, everyone else gets frustrated or just quits, people are literally being chased off the servers and out of the game over it, so whatever your opinion might be, when your behavior impacts someone else in a negative way its not cool.
Thankfully by mid June I believe we will have the fully implemented hostility system that should all but eliminate this, some people will always chose to play aggressively and so you will have people to kill and ambush, others will chose to play passively and they will be able to go to the butcher without any anxiety over losing their pelts and carcasses.
It is when you see a person coming, you tell them in your mic, hey Im just trying to get to the butcher, can I get in here please? and they act like "sure go ahead" then as you turn your back they shoot you and then run into a mission or another session, these are maybe the most frustrating, and a good example of what we really dont want, I know some players welcome it, now they have something to do and I can totally appreciate that, why cant others appreciate that some went to be left alone and your not a better player because you chose to shoot them in the back and then call in 2 friends to try and spawn kill them for the next 15 minutes, its just lame and sad behavior.
I think its great that R* decided to handle it this way so everyone can find a happy medium, if in fact they do implement it this way.
Stating an opinion about it one way or the other makes no difference at this point, other than to say things are changing and hopefully for the better.

I know it's a beta, but you as a developer need to get this stuff fixed. It's annoying a lot of players I can see that all over the Internet and it's really stupid. I paid $80 for this game and I expect it to be functioning properly and in a good state.
P.S. If you as a reader disagrees, let's have a civilized conversation with out saying "your bad at the game" (since you really can't be) or "its just a beta".
I agree with you on several points.
The community at large isnt toxic, although it sure can feel like it some days, I get a lot of
"oh my bad, I am working on my daily challenges" excuses.
But I have gotten a few apologies, and a few people even went out and hunted me pelts to replace what they cost me, and that was great and definitely non toxic, yeah they were jerks to kill me and my horse in the first place, but it is easy to see how SOME people can get caught up in that and get carried away, especially if they were or are playing with friends and having fun, shooting at eachother and just having a crazy spawn in and kill eachother kind of session, now I have never had one of those because I play alone 99% of the time, But I do see people do it all the time, some times I get killed because I wander into a group fighting, albeit sometimes they are 5 feet from the butcher they often just kill me because I am there, BUT there is the occasional super douche, that did target me, at the butcher or when I was fishing, etc.. and they too felt it was harmless because they talked themselves into it , they said, its free roam, I can play it anyway I want,if they dont want me to kil people they wouldnt let me kill people or they certainly woudlnt have daily challenges, etc.. but again, these people need to know you can do your daily challenge kills in pvp you never need to kill anyone in free roam if you dont want too.
I hate being killed when I am hunting and minding my own business, it really irritates me a lot, more than it should, but it is only because I want the game to be great and I like playing it "my way" which is what everyone says, the difference is my way, doesnt hurt you in anyway it doesnt affect you in anyway, in almost every case I was killed by some person in free roam, I had a chance to shoot first, but I never did even when I suspected the worst was coming, I just have a principle about respect and I hate to change that out of frustration.
For every jackass, there are 25 people playing I have never met, and those people are often like me, looking to do their own thing, get leveled up, not bother anyone and they dont want to be bothered by anyone either, now some of them do get messed with and then in turn take it out on others, these guys I really dislike, but I cant blame the whole game, its a small percentage of players and Rockstar for their part could end it all tomorrow if they chose too and I for one hope they do.
The other stuff like disconnects, and bugs, ARG!! im with ya, super frustrating but however late this game is to market it is still in Beta, yeah I know it is a microtransaction disaster at the moment, but it is still a beta and until they apply the Spring update and the fixes we just have to hang in there or bail for a time and come back to it later.

I just want to re-iterate Yes, I am not very good yet, yes I definitely need more practice, But no I didnt get frustrated over losing, lol, I dont mind losing at all, what I was upset over was, taking aim, locking on, and then nothing.....no bullets would fire from my gun, it was as if the gun jammed, or was not loaded, when in fact it was just cleaned, and was fully loaded, for some reason, several times in a row, I could not fire a shot, this was super frustrating, because yes, Im new to pvp and not very good, so when I do get a shot, I want my shot!! lol and I definitely did not get one, this happened several times, I joined a game in progress, then went into a new map, then one more, in each case, I came to a point where, for no reason that I could see, my guns just did not work.
So to be clear, there was some kind of problem, a bug, a glitch, ? I dunno, but I am not the only one to experience this exact thing, so I dont know what was going but it was not right.
Good ti[ on the reticule, I had thought about that but you just made my mind up, I am going to try that.
Also, I too was shot at by a player while I was skinning an animal just after this incident, he was a higher lvel than me, a lot higher like a 147 I think, he came at me, I hid behind my horse a little and in my mic I said, hey,!! dont shoot at me!! Im hunting dude cmon!! dont mess with a hunter in free roam, whats wrong with you?! then he kept shooting, so waited for him to fire again, then popped my head out and popped him with a head shot, killing him, I then rode offas I was hunting and had no money at all, I had just got notice my camp fee's couldnt be paid, lol so I was sort of working on that and didnt feel like getting all side tracked to play someone else's game, I wanted to play what I was doing, so... I did
That felt great, but the player who shot me sure didnt seem to have the skillz of a level 147 player so I almost think a friend, or child were playing on his sign in or something.

Do you look at you loadout from the side menu in before matches?

I don't think it is an exploit, they just got lots of bugs or doing something with the programming is my opinion.

And yeah in Name your weapons teams, free for all they assign you weapons.
Almost everything else (except make it count);is bring your own weapons...
And just for laughs, every time I die in free room my shotgun turns into Lancaster repeater and I got to change it back...
Game is full of bugs, I just don't let them get to me anymore
Thanks, I feel better knowing its not just me.
I went in and played spoils of war instead, and that worked fine, it was fun, and I was able to bring my Lancaster lol.
Ill try again another time, but that tall trees map and whatever mode that is isnt my favorite anyway, its chaotic and difficult to locate anyone, I guess I need a lot more practice first.

I started out fishing, I caught over 4,000 fish, I will help you out with some tips and techniques in a bit, when I can get back on in a little while.
So the basics have been covered, get your pole, go to a spot and cast out, Now, a few things you should know.
Use dead eye to see where the fish you want to catch are.
Any lure will work in all bodies of water
When you see for example large mouth bass, but also pickerel, blue gills, bull headds, etc.. you want to use your lure to avoid catching the smaller fish, unless of course that is what you want, but if you focus on the larger more expensive fish, ie: Bass, Trout, Salmon, which pay around $2.00 or more each, compared to the smaller fish that pay around $1 each or so.
Also, once you feel the fish bite, on xbox press R trigger to set the hook, then left stick down to keep your tip up, also, when you feel the fish fighting, dont reel in,once they stop, reel and every few seconds flick your left stick down to pull up on the rod to bring the fish closer to you, and when the fish starts fighting again, especially in the landing sequence, DO NOT REEL, or you will lose your lure, it stinks to lose one, so just dont reel when they fight.
Also, you have no minimap while fishing, do yourself a favor, after each time you catch and hold up a fish and it says press (a on xbox) to put it in your satchel, use that few seconds after pressing A to check your map, it doesnt happen everytime but people sometimes do walk up behind you and it never ends well, so....just check your map IMO.
Lets see what else, ok, West of Valentine in the Dakota river are pike, they pay the most, $7.50 I think, you can steal a cart from an npc and bringit with you, back it upto aq rock and load it up I had 6 in mine and one on my horse last time I did that.
Shady belle, to the south along the water there is a spot where you can catch both small and large mouth bass, plus gators, and birds, and then about 1 minute down the coast away from Shady belle towards catfish jacksons, you can also catch 10 steel head trout, so if you do the loop, it is about $75.00 each time and that is fish only, you will also get a few turkey, a few boar, deer, gators, birds, possums, racoons, etc.. so it can easily be 150$ trip and it doesnt take very long, just my experience anyway, I like that little loop it is close to Rhodes and whenever I need money, I will just run this loop a few times and boom $500 in no time at all, plus Shady belle is a hideout you get to clear several times a session and there is a pawn in rhodes to buy the few items you get from looting all the bodies.
Same can be said of Flat rock lake, from Clemmens point to where the lake turns towards Gil's place, and same deal 3 fish plus lake sturgeon, deer boars, etc.., and lastly back near Valentine south of the pike area, just exactly south of cumberland falls, there is a nice spot where you can grab 10 sockeye salmon quickly, they pay well and it is a quick trip to Valentine, so those are my tips, things to look out for and things to try for yourself, good luck to you.-

A kid griefed me while hunting the other day, I saw he was new and part of a posse with a level 85 or something player, I said to the posse leader, hey tell your posse not to be griefing hunting players in free roam man teach them right, he said, oh sorry he is only 4 years old, he cant read!!!
I said wtf a 4 year old should nto be playing rdr2 dude, thats not cool, especially if you cant teach im what blue and red look like and how to deal with them..
I doubt he was really 4, but it did make me think, he is letting a youngster play this game?

So, I just had the most frustrating experience so far in pvp.
I joined showdown series large in hopes that there would be lots of players so more targets more people etc.. I hate running around looking for people and never finding anyone or being killed long before I can spot a target, but I digress.
Im so pissed right now, maybe if I explain what happened someone can help me understand.
I watched several videos on game play to get a better understanding of how to play in pvp.
then I join showdown series large, so I start off in Tall trees you get a shotgun, a carbine an d a pistol, chose your weapon its called.
Three times in the first 5 minutes I found a target, took aim and fired, and nothing, no shot fired, like my gun was empty, so I tried again, again, again, I can not get it to fire and of course by the 4th attempt they turn and kill me.
So first WTF why wont my gun fire, this happened 3 x in just a few minutes then happened again in a Annesburg map, playing teams not territory or plunder I am not sure what really seemed like team death match to me, anyway same thing, I lock on, and my gun wont fire!!
I am freaking out thinking, what am I doing wrong, my guns are cleaned, loaded up, I only have reg ammo for some reason even though I bought lots of all types, I wanted to use my lancaster but I never have it, only a carbine and shotty, so ok, I suppose everyone has the same starting weapons I dunno, but the fact that mine dont work leaves me a little confused and a lot pissed off, this happened several times, by the time I run away, test fire my gun, make sure it is working then go back, it does it again!!

I am trying oh so hard to like this game, I am going in to pvp knowing I am not going to do very well at first, I totally expect that, I cant see well, I dont know the maps that well, etc.. so ok, whatever, but when things just dont work then I feel like ok, this is just stupid, I dont understand it and it is zero fun.
Why are my guns not firing?
Why cant I bring my lancaster into pvp?
What modes are there where I decide my guns?
Im determined to succeed I just want to get a little better for now, and I have played a few times before but this was never an issue, I got so mad I just quit and nearly threw my controller.
Its bad enough Im not very good, but for the love of God why wont my freakin gun fire!!!
If someone can enlighten me a little I would really appreciate it.

Better kind of in game communication to aid in grouping and posse joining/recruiting.
Some kind of training grounds with weapon/technique/ability card specific training? This is just a seed of an idea as I'm writing, so I have to think more on that one.
Clothing and equipment crafting. In addition to this and to compliment it, some kind of inter-player barter/trade system.
I love the idea of a training grounds for ability cards usage, somewhere in that thought is a great idea.

Two things I would love to see are,:
I would really like to see the addition of a way to prevent shooting your own people and allies, so if you have a large group, let's say 20 players, you make 3 posse's and you ride together to meet up with some allies in 3 more posse's, so you can all then coordinate an attack against another group that is also made up of 5 or 6 posse's. Now, when you do this, a battle can get very complex, players everywhere, we would love to see an option to turn off friendly fire against posse ,members and allies, so in these battles it is easier to see the enemies and not have the auto aim lock on to your own players.
I have been in a few of these battles and I can tell you it is a pain to not have some type of friendly fire feature.
I did see in one battle I could not lock onto a group of players that joined us, our allies, and I thought ok, this is great and exactly what we need for this situation.
Also,
I would like to see hangings, arrests, trials, etc.. so you can go after a player with a high bounty on them, then vote to decide their fate depending on the bounty they have earned, so you go after a player that has been griefing let's say, and they have accumulated a high bounty for murder, if you go after them and catch them, your posse or group then can vote to decide their fate, if you chose to they can be jailed for the remainder of the session, and have to pay legal fee's and fines to get back out, or sit in jail for the remainder of the session, you can also vote to hang said person, and in that case, they would lose any $ they had on them, their horse, and camp, and would have to re purchase these items once free'd or after dying from hanging and re spawning, would be a second chance in life.
You would also have the choice to kick them from the server as if they were hanged and then dead, it would serve like a parlay where they wouldnt be a target any longer after this decision so the player would have the option to sit in jail for a lengthy amount of time or re spawn in a new session on another server, etc..
Also instead of parlay option for someone who started killing others and then the others seek revenge and the player who started the killing has had enough so they want to parlay, well this option would not be available to them if they started the trouble to begin with, instead they would have other options like surrender, accept jail/court, etc.. so the killing would stop then they would be in a situation where the revenge seeking players would decide their fate again with a vote system, hang them, lock them up, or fine them.
We could use Syska and Mercer for prisons, and the gallows in Valentine and St Denis and Rhodes for hangings.
IMO all these would be great additions to the online multiplayer section of the game.

Now one thing im very very curious of: It was said somwhere that by using a certain gun You can increase its stats a bit and yes i noticed that.
I wanted to ask this on forum today. How does it work? does it only apply to one gun of each type? for ex i have a bolt action maxed out on stats - when i start using springfield will the stats on it increase and decrease on bolt action ? or the once increased stats by using a certain weapon stay forever? I bought semi auto shotgun and it sux compared to my repeater shotgun bcoz i have "exped" that shotgun since the start. I would like to exp the other shotgun too what i am doing now and curious about the whole thing. Cant find an explanation nowhere.
Im going to read the official guide and see what it say's Ill post back tomorrow.
I noticed my overall stats increased on my Springfield and wondered why.

And not a bad idea, I do really dislike anyone who thinks it is ok to just abuse your trust and take advantage of a situation like waiting for you to leave a butcher and shoot you in the back, they deserve all the payback they can handle, and this too is driving me more and more, I am sick of worrying about who is in Rhodes, or Valentine, or going way way out of my way just to go to a butcher, I am done with that, and this is pushing me to grind, and play pvp more to get better at fighting, and master using my cards, so when I do hand out payback it will be glorious and fun.

Yesterday started exping a card setup i want to test during pvp - to fight another day & of single purpose to use with slippery bastard on pvp running around using only knives to kill ppl for fun of it so back to some hunting between matches.
Started to do horse races daily as well. a couple of matches for fun.
So seems im still hooked - heck even now in my ofice, writing here on forum i would love to go back to playing the game. Still 3 hours left in work 😜
Also im trying to accumulate some gold bars and dollars for the future updates and i hope that gambling will be introduced to the game because i really miss that part of the game. Would love to see saloons full off ppl playing cards, 5 fingers and stuff. I can understand that there are some legal issues that maybe postponing the implementation (its gambling) and probably the currency used for playing will be in game dollars and not gold bars since You can buy them via R* shop so yeah legal gambling issues but in the end everything can be done.
As for the grind and the levels itself. Im an old PC mmorpg hard core player (retired). Mostly played korean mmo with insane money/lvl/skill grind where You need to kill 20 k npc's to lvl up... and loose this lvl in one day loosing in pvp. Im used to hardcore grind to that point i started to enjoy it. crazy i know. For me gaining lvls and money in this game is a walk in the park - for others it might be a grind.
As said before im one of that breed of players that will have everything unlocked in this game - when i do who knows maybe ill leave rdro for ome time or maybe forever. While im enjoying it im playing. When You stop enjoying a game just stop playing it - that is what i will do.

Level 104 thats great man, a few weeks ago that literally seemed out of reach to me, today it seems like in 2 weeks Ill be right there.
The more I realize most players seem to have relaxed on grinding levels, at least everyone Ive been talking too, it really motivated me to catch up somewhat.
I was looking for inspiration and I found some, so now I go back to grinding for a bit, as long as I am working toward something I dont mind at all, and honestly I cant wait to get the ammo and one more card maxed out.
I did learn something yesterday that was a "DOH!" moment, I had been using the carbine repeater, lol yep, I just didnt notice and was wondering, why is everyone so good with their repeater but I stink so bad, then I bought the Lancaster repeater and took it out for a ride, WOW what a difference, I cant wait to go back to pvp now and give this gun a try.
Anyway I am really glad I found some direction to keep pushing while we all wait for the Spring update to hit and see what the game becomes either way I will be ready for whatever comes.

Im glad you did, I rely on your update thread for news, lol I went there first to see if anything dropped or changed.
After listening to a few videos on the subject I think June 11th or June 4th possibly for the Spring Update, but that is a guess with no evidence to back it up, other than looking at the past 7 weeks.

I dont discriminate against anyone ever, unless your just a jerk of any age, race, sex, or creed, a jerk is a jerk in any term, but I never shoot first, and I never go out of my way to disrespect anyone else in game, I enjoy the live and let live and respect peoples time approach, treat people the way you want to be treated, , if they want to play a certain way I dont do anything to interfere.
Let me know when you get together and when I am on you can send me an invite so we can get into the same server.
I still do a lot of solo play for grinding, I want to get to level 95 as soon as I can, but I could definitely get into some group antics and fun.
I need practice in pvp the most, I am not very good at it right now, but I want to get better with practice and time in the maps to learn the nuances.
I do belong to "The Northern Empire" a non toxic group sort of a milsim, (Military simulator), we have uniforms, and ranks, and we recruit as many non toxic fun people as we meet, so as long as the two groups arent against each other then I am in if you'll have me.
Do you guys use discord to get together and communicate?
We have a channel on there and it is great for talking to your buddies even when you are not in game, I use it on my laptop so I can chat with guys in our group even if I am playing on other servers.
Are you guys on xbox?
I am lump321 on xbox, so hopefully you guys are xbox and not ps4, if so add me for sure.
Im down to grind out 30 levels over the next few weeks, I figure 2 a day will get me there in about 2 weeks, say 3 with a few days off.

Obtw, Never trust a blue blip, especially near a butcher or an animal.
Well I was trusting blue blips and still do for the most part although the last few days are straining my resolve
Once I cant trust anyone, it isnt even fun, I hate having to figure out how to sell all the stuff I've hunted, you cant just go to the butcher, now you need a full on "plan" or you will most likely be shot and have to then deal with that nonsense.
I cant wait for passive play, just for hunting, it sucks to grind for an hour or two only to have someone shoot your horse and make you lose all that hard work.
Also, I am quietly grinding to level 95 for the explosive ammo, I just send a little note to those who wrong me, here and there, and when I am ready, ill use that connection to go find them and have my revenge later on, lol.
Some I deal with swiftly, others I just make a note, ok, a level 125 thought it was funny to blow me up with a dyno arrow, ok, cool, Ill be back......hold my beer.
The ones who take really cheap shots, like wave at me, then as I ride away shoot me in the back of the head then run into a mission or quit, I have a special plan for them, lol their day is coming.

it never occurred to me to search to see what is in use, sigh... thats sad. BUT should totally be detectable, hopefully R* will address aftermarket paid and updated patch hax, I hate cheaters, its hard enough to get good at a game with skilled players playing it, but it is nearly impossible against cheaters, the main reason I stopped playing Counter strike back in the day.
