So it took me a grand total of one hour!  (Would have been faster, but I had to dig out a USB drive, a screwdriver and the new HDD) Everything went as smooth as it possibly could, and the bonus is that the HDD I put in was a 1TB, so I doubled my hard drive space!  So far so good, apps and games are re-downloading atm.  Time will tell if it was really a hard drive problem or not.   If it works for 5 or  days straight without having to remaster everything again, I'll be convinced.  Either way, I learned how to do something I assumed would be difficult, but was incredibly simple.  Thanks a million!

    Way I see it, Stranger . . .

    . . . I'd say you owe @Truth here a cold one!

I remember the hard drive being much easier to replace on the ps4 vs the xbox. You also don't have to void the warranty to replace it (if I remember correctly).

You bring up a good point, and a question (which will likely make me sound even more stupid than usual) - but I heard someone mention you could buy a regular old external hard drive and plug it into one of the USB ports on either the PS4 or XBox. True? If so, that would solve all my drive space problems.  I'm constantly having to delete crap to do new things on my PS4.

I've been tempted to get the pro, but I just signed a 1 year lease and I'm living on my own now... I actually have to start watching my expenses now lol

And sorry, but I already told my nephew I'd give him my spare when I eventually upgrade. Might just give it to him for his birthday this year.

    Ahh, dumb ol' nephews . . .

I stick with xbox, but mostly because I don't know anyone (personally) that has a ps4. I also bought a Switch, but I lent it to a buddy after I realized I wasn't using it. I'll be taking it back when the new pokemon game comes out (nostalgia).

Still trying to get @Cokeyskunk on xbox. He doesn't think I'm worth it though... (lol)

I'm strictly PlayStation. I've tried playing DrekBox several times before and my mind is just not wired that way. You, however, would make a perfect addition to the PS family!

(On another note, I know an 11-year-old boy who would be your biggest fan AND would pay shipping if you were to send him that Nintendo Switch you're unhappy with.  ???? )

Am I the only person who has never played that? I 100%ed RDR but have just never been interested in the zombie stuff, and definitely not interested enough to pay money for it.

No. I played it for like an hour or so 8 years ago and never finished. Something I’ve always meant to get back to but never did. Zombies always bored me too.

I love all genres.  And I adored RDR. So adding a "nightmare" / "elseworlds"-type game mode to it made it all the better to me. It was actually a ton of fun, and they were brilliant to release it around Halloween time when everyone was in the mood for something like that.

I recommend you both give it another chance. Hell, think of it as an RDR adventure you still haven't yet taken, but can RIGHT NOW instead of having to wait 'til October. Don't approach it as "zombie crap," approach it as -- what would Marston do if he woke up one morning, and the world were like this? Immerse yourself in the character and handle things the way he would. Help people. Put some awful creatures out of their misery. See where life takes you.

That's what I did, and I loved it. I hope you do, too.

@Cokeyskunk this time you get to give ME shit for not playing the game lol

In preparation, I should probably give the first one a spin. Didn't really get to play it much before I was distracted by some other game. Hopefully I still have it.

    ???? There.

If you don't still have it, it should be crazy cheap now. Just look on eBay or Amazon. I think it'll be the best prep for the release. And as soon as you're done with it, release time will be right around the corner. ????

  7. As I understand it, gameplay mechanics will still be relatively similar to the original game.

I actually kept my PS3 JUST so I could keep RDR and play it again to prepare for release.

I used to be good at multiplayer. I mean really good. But I have so much rust on me from not playing for the past five years, I don't know how much of that ability is salvageable.

Me? I just started the RDR single player campaign over again. I'm not about to go back into multiplayer cold. I figure going through the single player campaign will be the best training I can have. Then when I've completed that, I'll venture out into multiplayer again to try to gain back some of the skill I had in 2013.

Then -- if so, then I'll be ready to go when RDR2 releases. (Well, at least when I get it for a Christmas present in December, I will be.)

What about you? Are you rusty from lack of play over the years? Or have you been playing consistently since 2010?

They kind of did that with Skyrim, and then by the point my character chose a wife and got kids.  I was so busy running missions that it was a huge pain to deal with the family and run missions.  I was never home.

Once again, it really did cut into the game play for me.  Trying run missions and still make time for the extra stuff.

I'm not really following this. Surely owning a PS4 would make you buy the PS4 version whether it was cross-platform or not? It's online play only that they are talking about here, so PS4 players can be in the same lobbies as XBox players. The way I'm reading your post is that you are talking about the potential of buying a physical XBox game to play on your PS4, which of course would never be the case. Am I reading it wrong?

Yes. What I am disputing is @D3x's claim that Sony does not want to do cross-platform play on the basis that IF gamers have BOTH a PS4 AND and XBox, if there is cross-platform play, those users will not buy both an XBox AND a PS4 version.

I was just saying -- if a random gamer has friends who are playing the same game cross-platform and he only has one console, he'll be much more highly motivated to purchase the game BECAUSE it's cross-platform. If it were not, I very highly doubt it would encourage him to purchase the OTHER console AND a 2nd version of the game so he could play with SOME friends on one, and SOME friends on the other.

I certainly don't think a PS4 game would work in an XBox, or vice versa. Apologies for the confusion.

If you put the same game on all platforms and allow any player from any platform to play with each other, there is less of a chance that people will play both consoles just to play with friends. Like say I have 3 friends on PS4 and 3 on Xbox. Both groups want me to play so I eventually end up getting 2 copies. If cross platform is enabled, I don't have to do this thus they make less money off of me.

Sorry to exhume this thread, but I've been thinking about this a bit lately and wanted to address your thinking on this.

You're kind of basing the entire "no cross-play" suggestion on the idea that a very large number of gamers own both an Xbox and a PlayStation. I think that number is smaller than you would think. And I hardly think it's Sony's basis for a decision.

Let's look at it another way. Say you have a PS4. You have 4 friends playing on PS4 and 3 friends playing on Xbox. If there's no cross-platform play, you can never play with all of them at once. But if it were cross-platform, and ALL SEVEN of your friends were playing together, wouldn't that make your decision to buy the PS4 version a no-brainer? Wouldn't that give you MORE incentive to buy the game?

I really can't wrap my head around the logic of saying NO to cross-play because they think, "They won't buy TWO versions, then!!" Again, I know LOTS of people, and only one of them have both platforms. This is likely a quite small demographic.

I have a strong feeling Sony's now leaning toward cross-platform play with XBox. They're getting a ton of pressure to do it, so they really can't hold out much longer and stay successful. After a while of completely ignoring your customers, they start going elsewhere.

Well I'm really not expecting to be able to go back to the f13 forums after today, so I figured moving here couldn't hurt.

Where are the rules here? Don't want to use an "inappropriate anagram" and get myself banned lol

Still getting a vibe on that.  @lonestar/@Benjo - I couldn't find an "official forum rules" anywhere. Do they exist? Would like to review just to familiarize how things go 'round these parts.

Nah dude, I stated "I'm sure Rockstar have learnt their lesson from the Hot Coffee controversy and wouldn't make that mistake again." It's obvious that they wouldn't include anything like that again, I meant the features that they didn't cut from the game.

I did say, "Nothing even remotely similar to Hot Coffee." That incident was in San Andreas. In GTA V, they had plenty of relationships and "suggestions". I'm just hoping for something similar to that. (Obviously not on the "hook-up" side -- more along the lines of something a bit more romantic than you'd ever see in GTA.)

I highly doubt that because the "dating feature" was where the "Hot Coffee" issue sprung from that Rockstar would never allow in-game dating again. That would be like removing the money-accrual system because hackers found a way to give themselves unlimited in-game funds. Annihilation of an entire function because of one incident is not the answer. The answer is fixing the game mechanics so that similar incidents cannot happen again.

I like this kind of concept for some games but not all games. I don't think it would work for RDR2. Not that it couldn't be implemented but it isn't Rockstar's style to focus on relationships between characters unless it is strictly storyline related I know in GTA 4, you were able to go out on a date and depending on how it went, go on more and all that. Is that the kind of thing you are referring to?

Yes, that's pretty much it. It might be fun to have Marston date a few other women before meeting Abigail. The first ladies could be rather obviously "flawed" for him, then when he meets Abigail, we see why she was right for him. I just think it would make the immersive experience all the better. Life isn't all about missions and money -- John Marston has a wife and child in the first game. As this is the prequel, I'd love to go through that courtship experience with him. I think it'd make it an epic game.

    5 hours ago, Archbell said:

I doubt there'll be an option to romance women or pursue relationships in Red Dead Redemption II but I wouldn't say it's completely off the table as Rockstar have done that sort of thing in previous games with varied levels of success so I guess we'll have to wait and see.

The only Rockstar game where I found the romance/relationship options to be worthwhile was GTA San Andreas, you put in a little effort and in return unlocked special vehicles and outfits from your various girlfriends across the state. If Rockstar were to implement something similar to this where you can unlock special rewards then I believe it would be a worthwhile addition to the game, I'm sure Rockstar have learnt their lesson from the Hot Coffee controversy and wouldn't make that mistake again.

Oh now wait, I'm not suggesting we get to play mini-games on their wedding night or anything! Nothing even remotely similar to "Hot Coffee." But they can certainly have a tasteful suggestion of "nighttime activity." Even Assassin's Creed has done that, and quite well. I just think it would deepen the players' connection to the characters. That's why I'm hoping for it.

Yeah, can't wait either.  I also have a PSN Community I started called "Red Dead Redemption 2 - TeamUp".   There is currently just 2 of my good PSN friends on there but feel free to join in if you wish (no pressure).  I try to keep it updated with news, etc. but I created it for the same goal.  .....to create a pool of players we can all draw from, make new PSN friends for the game, etc.

Yep, we're still quite a ways out. I have a feeling this forum (and by proxy, the clubs) will pop come October. Everything should fall into place then.

Personally (i;m on PS4 btw), I'm looking at it as an opportunity to befriend more like-minded gamers so that when RDR2 does come out, we'll have a pool of players/friends that we can choose from.  In a way, it can also be used as a tool to vet players for your particular group,  playstyle, etc.

In my case, I'm just looking for older folks on PS4 like me who are just looking to have a good time and prefer to work with each other as a team (vs. just griefing players, etc.).  We obviously don't know what the different play modes will consist of at this time so we'll have to see how all that plays out.  I would just rather have a pool of folks I could tap into when the game releases rather than trying to brave the RDR2 online gameworld alone.   ......and if GTAV:O is any indication of the potential for players to grief the weak and loaners, I would prefer to have buddies I can rely on.

This is exactly what I'm looking for, as well. I joined your PS4 club, @Kean_1. See you in . . . well, several months. ????
