Yes. I'm sure your BRAND NEW slow cooker will bring you all kinds of Wonder and Delight. Just make a chart of its temperatures first, then enjoy. I expect to see many, many wonderful photographs, and perhaps some monetary gestures of gratitude.  😁

No regrets. This time I was home to keep an eye on it. Came out better than any ribs my parents ever made. Through this thread I'm starting to realize that my parents don't really make good food...

@Skrylaxx I feel like if I had a good way to cook rice correctly, I'd find more reasons to make it. After I get used to this slow cooker I might try that out.

    Edit:

You should have your new slow cooker by tomorrow. If you receive it early enough, I highly recommend ribs for dinner tomorrow.

Well your suggestion to verfiy the temperature before trying to use the slow cooker was genius. I got it at about 170 yesterday and left it set there. I just threw them in 5 minutes ago! This time I'll try not to touch it early lol

I really don't think it will be a problem now that it's (hopefully) at the right temperature.

Plus it's being delivered to my parent's house and I don't feel like driving over there...

Edit: I'm going to regret that... I just went over to look at it and noticed it was still room temperature... Stupid old piece of sh*t popped the breaker and I didn't notice. Good thing I looked now instead of waiting.

Iirc, Save Serve temp for beef is 165.  But I am on a beer brawl ATM, so I wouldn't trust anything I say at this point

You're absolutely right. I'm glad I threw it in the oven for a bit. That's what made it dry, but at least parts of it we're safe to eat lol

You should be happy with the one you ordered. It's got Low, High, and Auto (warm).

I highly recommend you run a test on it at some point after you get it:

Pour in about a quart of water, then switch it to "High," put the lid on, and leave it alone for at least two hours (overnight is easiest)

When you come back to check it, stick a food thermometer in the water and write down the temperature.

Repeat this for both the "Low" and the "Auto" settings.

Then you'll know exactly at what temperature each level cooks, so you'll know where you want to set it for each dish.

I keep my chart on an index card taped to the bottom. It's quite handy.

Just checked this old one and it was giving me 150... There's the problem...

He could use that money to be a dick, but I'm hoping he isn't a dick. As someone who doesn't really play GTAO because I'm broke and don't have access to anything fun, I really wouldn't mind  some quick cash like that to buy things worth having. I don't use my own cars because I can ALWAYS find a better one and steal it. I was finally able to buy a weed farm, but got sick of:

Can't resupply or deliver when I'm stuck using some shitty car. Without money to buy decent things, the game isn't really all that fun to me. Don't say "buy shark cards"... I can't justify spending money on something like that.

Like I said, I'd love to be in a private server to actually enjoy the game...

There are other ways to work the system to get relatively quick cash though (without exploits / cheating).  Lots of videos on it.

I can check later how much time I spent playing. I know it's a decent amount, and I know I never even got to 2 mil.

Edit: To be clear, I'm not saying what he did should be acceptable. I'm just saying I get it and don't blame him for doing it, nor would I hold it against him like I would with the OP example.

I have taken full advantage of glitches. Remember the one in GTA V online with the garage? I must have done that like 20 times or more. I was swimming in cash. Then one day I couldn't get online and I realize I made a huge mistake. lol

Again though, this one doesn't really have an impact on anyone else. I don't really see a problem with that, but understand why you got banned lol

It's the cheats that screw over other players that piss me off. You were just taking a shortcut.

iirc, the handle on the lid and the pegs for the feet are both held in by screws and nuts.  Either of those could get dislodged by a curious child.

Really, from a legal perspective, anything that can be broken off or removed with a minimal amount of force or effort that fits within the mouth constitutes a choking hazard, so they need to cover themselves.

The handle looks way too big, but the feet would make sense...

    Is that a "no"?

We literally have that exact one in our office for when we do pot-luck parties.

For sporting events, it's perfect for chili con queso.

And has anyone ever choked on it? I'm still trying to figure out why a slow cooker has a choking hazard warning slapped on it...

WTF kind of choking hazard could there be?!?

    17 minutes ago, Cokeyskunk said:

This shouldn't matter. Not in the least. If the lid is completely down, everything should cook the same (unless parts are submerged in something)

Then I'm back to blaming the slow cooker... It's also a 1-10 setting, not high/low. I set it to 1, then turned it up a bit in the morning because it didn't seem hot enough. Should've turned it up more I guess...

I was going to post the aliens meme in here but I was beaten to it.

I am not sure how I view the topic. I look through a lot of history and there has always been some kind of "non-human" worship even if it had nothing to do with religion. The Ancient Egyptians (as mentioned), the Mayans, and the Ancient Greeks... Plenty of others too they all had their "gods" some of which looked nothing like humans.

That show is f*cked, but they do bring up some good points. I used to watch it until I got sick of the repetitive "but could it have been aliens" every 2 minutes. It's like a laugh track in a sitcom... But worse...

What?? After 8+ hours in a slow cooker?? These guys should be falling off the bone by this point. Did you eat 'em?

    image.thumb.jpeg.fdc0cf8a30a6cb0565b8a952baca4c43.jpeg

I'm going to blame the slow cooker that's likely older than I am... That and the way I put them in there. Some parts were still raw (like totally raw) and some parts were completely dry... I also dropped a piece after taking the f*cking picture, so I was already kind of pissed when I started eating them (after trying to get the bbq sauce out of the carpet)...

I'm going to try again this weekend, but I'll only cook half the slab. I'm sure it would've turned out perfect if it was actually laying down, but I set them up like a teepee to make them fit.

The parts I did eat were mostly dry, but the sauce was so good I didn't care. For a first attempt (both with ribs and with a slow cooker) I'm not all that surprised. I'm sure the next try will work out. I'm just glad I saved the better looking slab for my second try lol

Edit: I was trying to keep my cat from getting too close while taking the picture...

Will do. I'm giving them some extra time because I opened it impatiantly. I will have pictures though.

I forgot to mention that they started off in a shallow pool of BBQ sauce and rum. It should probably be whiskey, but I only had rum...

I just opened it to check the sauce levels and I swear I had a mini orgasm... My apartment smells like MEAT, but that smells incredible.

Edit: sauce levels are good in case you were curious.

we make pulled pork sandos in a slow cooker.  Curious?  Here's what you need:

    1 Bottle of Liquid Smoke

1 12oz can of root beer

1 Pork Loin (really any kind of pork will do, I just prefer that particular cut)

    1 bottle of barbecue sauce

place the pork loin in the slow cooker.  Add in the root beer and liquid smoke.  Cook on low heat for 8-10 hours.  Remove the pork and shred with a fork.  In a separate bowl, add one cup of the "juice" from the slow cooker to one cup of bbq sauce and mix.  Then mix in the meat.  Toss it on a bun and chow down.

For variety, try different sodas.  It turns out Dr. Pepper is AMAZING with the right BBQ sauce to compliment it.

I'm officially getting a slow cooker.

I'm pretty sure that was actually part of one of their episodes.

Now that I think about it, I should mention that in GTAV:O that I have used an exploit of sorts on my PS4 that allows me to join public, free roam sessions alone or with very few other randoms so I can do business missions in relative peace.  I simply change my connection settings so the game places me in my own session.  Sometimes a few others may be placed in the same session but most times they are there for the same reason I am and may even offer to help each other.

Again, not an exploit that I use in a competitive PvP scenario but thought I should mention it nonetheless.

Sounds harmless enough, honestly. I'm a low level and broke, so naturally people like to f*ck with me in GTA... It's rare that I can do much without some rich douchebag flying over in his stupid f*cking delorean to blow me up... I don't see how that's a fair fight to begin with, so something like that sounds totally reasonable.

Edit: Clearly I'm a little salty...

I agree with you guys and that is why I stopped playing games with the guy.  It just seems odd that some players so easily cross the line rather then do the right thing.

Some people forget that it's just a game.

Some people would also say that cheating is fine because it's just a game. Those people shouldn't be allowed to play online.

Just curious how many feel it is ok to use a cheat, glitch, or hack if others are doing it in the game just so you can keep up?

Using hacks/cheats/glitches just makes you part of the problem. Doesn't make you any better, just means that you're not good enough to play a fair game. Also kind of depends on the game/cheat. Your friend is using them for a competitive edge, that's a problem. It may mean that he's having more fun, but that's at the expense of another player's fun. Cheating in a solo/offline game (like old school game shark type stuff) isn't a problem. Nobody cares.

Edit: I can still probably remember how to do the "Missing No." cheat in the original pokemon games.

The same thing happened with Friday the 13th: The Game, just on a smaller scale: developers over-promised and under delivered (although calling it "under delivering" is an understatement

I got the game just after launch, so I missed a lot of the pre-release bullsh*t. They still really f*cked the community though... I'm still not convinced dedicated servers are legit. My ping varies greatly depending on the lobby.

I just hope it doesn't deter anyone from making another (better) F13 game somewhere down the road. It had potential.

Two things, I own Friday the 13th and could never find anyone on to play the game with ever.

I still hop on once in a while. Usually just for a match or 2 before I get bored. I spent WAAAAYYYY too much time playing it lol

How many hours of investment into a game before you feel you get your money's worth?

    That's a tough one...

Many people or more than happy to go to the movies for 2 hours and spend $20. By that logic, 6 hours of game time is all it takes.

I have to argue that the quality of the game is more important than how long I actually play it. Those 2 hours you spent watching a movie were only worth it if you enjoyed the movie. I may have spent 50 hours (probably more) playing Sea of Thieves, doesn't mean it's worth the $60 (game pass is a great option btw). If I had paid for it, I would've been pissed.

Then there are games like Skyrim, where you can play for (literally) MONTHS and still find something new in the game. I may have less time logged in Skyrim, but I'm more happy with that purchase than I would be with SoT had I paid for it. I can always go back and play it, even in 30 years (assuming my xbox still works).
