The only problem with the ice cream recipe I've had when using fruit juice is it crystalises in the freezer and makes your ice cream icy instead of creamy. The only real way around this is to use an ice cream maker to keep it moving as it freezes (stops it crystalising), so I just don't use fruit juice at all.

It may have been the consistency of the cool whip that prevented that.

Something I'll have to play around with.

Edit: Or maybe that it was in the fridge for a day or 2 beforehand?

Edit 2: I tried made some vanilla ice cream last night, turned out just as I expected! I wanted it a little sweeter, so I also added about 1/4 cup of powdered sugar. I tried a scoop this morning and it tastes like a klondike bar, but creamier.

Try some grated cheese in there too. Sublime.

I never cared for cheesy mashed potatoes. I like them with corn and gravy, so the cheese makes it a little weird for me.

This makes a super creamy, expensive-style ice cream.

    Base:

Whip with a hand or stand mixer 1 litre quality whipping cream (chilled) until fairly thick.

Add 1 can (the smaller ones) of chilled condensed milk. Continue whipping until super thick.

This is the same every time.

    Then:

Add flavourings to taste. To make a simple vanilla add 3 tablespoons of quality vanilla extract. You can make any flavour you want, for instance, I add cocoa powder and homemade chocolate oreo fudge to one mix I do. Make vanilla oreo by crushing up a pack of oreos and mixing them in with the mixer, etc etc.

    Enjoy!

    I can't believe I didn't remember this before!

A couple months ago, my mom made some "key lime pie". She bought ingredients for 2 though, so she gave me the rest and I made my own at home. It was alright, bu it seemed to melt down pretty quick, so I threw it in the freezer. THAT's when it got REALLY good. I actually told my mom that it came out better as ice cream than pie. It was delicious and creamy (just like any GOOD ice cream).

"What were the ingredients", you ask?

              1 can of condensed milk

              1 container of cool whip

1/2 a bottle of key lime juice

              1 pie crust

Sound familiar @Benjo? Now that I've remembered this, I CAN'T WAIT FOR THIS ICE CREAM!!!

    (sorry @Cokeyskunk)

    Always.

I also throw some sour cream in there in place of some of the milk. Try it sometime. Even better.

Also - I like to substitute half the milk for chicken stock. A great Fall feast.

It called for 1 cup of milk, but that sounded like a lot. I cut that down and used a little more butter instead. I didn't want to drink my mashed potatoes... My mom swaps the milk for half & half sometimes.

    YES!

The key to making a quality mashed potato is in the mashing. Take your time, get it smooooooth.

I like them a little lumpy. I really thought I was going to over-mash them, I'm surprised that I didn't.

I have to say, I'm enjoying cooking for myself. Never knew food could taste so good lol

  5. I need some opinions here. I made mashed potatoes myself for the first time yesterday. Instead of asking my mom for her recipe, I just found a simple one online and used that. VERY simple. Mash the potatoes, throw in some milk and butter, and add salt/pepper to taste. That last part is where I need opinions.

Now, I thought these turned out f*cking awesome. I hate to say mine were better than hers, but mine were better than hers. It was very obvious that the pepper made a HUGE difference. I asked my mom why she never uses pepper in her mashed potatoes and she said" Pepper doesn't go in mashed potatoes" as if it were fact.

So I ask you, does pepper go into mashed potatoes?

Yeah, I actually was a wee bit disappointed to be honest.

The story I found it on was titled "Red Dead Redemption 2 video gives a master class in wild west robberies", I was also disappointed...

I truly don't feel any more capable of pulling off a train heist...

    Walter White taught me more.

you'd think I would be worth his honesty and telling me he slipped up.

I have to argue that maybe he kept it from you because "Bob" respects how you view him. Maybe he's just afraid to let you down. Obviously I don't know the specific dynamics of your friendship, but I could see this being the case. Sometimes it's harder to admit to a friend that you f*cked up.

My advice, I'd ask him about it (in the right setting/moment). Bring it up casually and see how he takes it. If he asks how you found out, just say you had your suspicions and he confirmed. Don't start pointing fingers or anything, but let him know you're there for support (assuming you want to be). If you just ignore it, it will just progressively get worse until you have another falling out. Like @BropolloCreed79 and @TheHansonGoons said, it has to be HIS decision, but that decision is easier to make with the help of those around you. In my opinion, this is something you might want to get in front of.

Really, this depends on if YOU think the friendship is worth it.

That's what it sounded like to me lol

@Benjo that sounds WAY too easy... I coincidentally just ran out of ice cream, so I'll give this one a shot.

I tend to avoid people who feel there are certain people who deserve to be ridiculed and bullied.

I'm on the fence about this statement. I've met some really shitty people, some of them deserve really shitty things. I will say that.

But I also understand the impact bullying can have, especially when it comes to kids. I've seen both sides of it, I've been on both sides of it.

    Really depends on the details...

    • take out wok
    • add oil
    • heat
    • cook
    • let cool
    • pour oil back into bottle

    Effort.^^^

    Glad we agree!

Pizza turned out great, but I think something spicy would be awesome on there. Maybe a layer of barbecue sauce?

Once in a while I like to put taco Bell fire sauce on my pizza before I cook it. That'll really clear your sinuses too.

I own a deep fryer, but it doesn't work for me nearly as well as a wok. I just fill that up, fry my stuff, then stuff a paper towel into a funnel and filter the (cooled) oil back in the bottle.

I keep another smaller bottle to use in food additions. My big bottle is for frying only, and I can use it multiple times.

    Effort^^^

    • Pick up a Totino's Party Pizza (for the exorbitant price of .99 cents - $1.25)
    • Open it up (cooks better without cellophane)  😔
    • Sprinkle some Italian Seasoning and some Fennel Seed on top (DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP!!!)
    • Put it in the oven @450

    Done. 14 minutes left.

Edit: sorry for the DP (double post, not whatever sick thing @BropolloCreed79 thought of).

    . . . you don't own a bottle of vegetable oil and a pot or pan . . . ?

I do, but it's not worth the effort. I was going to get a real fryer, but decided to try out the air fryer. Can't say I've used it enough to pass judgement yet, but it seems to be pretty handy. It's even good for just heating things up without nuking.

Oh, I also beat an egg white with about a tablespoon of water, then brush it all over the crust just before baking. Makes it come out looking like a photo from a magazine cover.

Got it. That was actually in the other recipe I found this morning. I'll probably sprinkle some cinnamon/sugar on top too.

I'll probably be making that totinos pizza tonight with a side of mozzarella sticks and/or fries and/or pizza rolls (I got an air fryer last week and that's all I have to "fry").
