I had just done that mission last night.

      Reveal hidden contents

I had tried going down in the mine, figuring there may be something valuable in there. But I quickly came to the dead end. I had not thought of using dynamite there to clear the rocks on the path.

    Thanks for the info.

If it's any consolation, I almost turned around and left the second time I was there too, but this game is of full of esoteric detail that I go over everything possible.  Sure it slows down the gameplay, but I love doing it.

I just noticed that yesterday... Most of the time I assume I had looked at someone wrong, but this time there was NOBODY anywhere near me.

Had you recently left the scene of a crime and left a body or evidence behind?  I get that from time to time, and all I have to do is basically run away from the crime scene as fast as I can.  Unless there's a "WITNESS" notification, a "Crime Reported" is nothing to worry about--most of the time you can outrun the investigation.

Did you just find that by accident?

I don't think that one is accessible for me yet, but I'm getting the guide today. Sort of cheating, but I don't want to miss anything.

I took a break from the story (only at 33%) to hunt/fish. Never thought I'd enjoy hunting/fishing in a video game so much.

I did.  I was hunting the legendary buck over there, and remembered the cave from when I did the bounty in Strawberry.

    Spoiler

I remembered the plunger from the train robbery at the beginning, and sure enough, when I used "Eagle Eye" it lit up like the Griswold household on Christmas eve.  I activated it and it blew open the back of the cave.

If you've been over to Strawberry, you can unlock the mission to find the cave by doing the bounty at the sherrif's office.  Just remember to mark your map afterwards so you can find it again after completing the bounty.

  4. That horse is always pulling that cart with those hillbillies.  I ran into them myself northwest of Annesburg, right after

I freed the horse and have her stabled for now as my backup to my main horse.  At some point, once I max out "Arnold", I'll start on her.

  5. On this mission, you can rob the room as many times as you'd like, even after the mission ends.

Grab the gun, then run out the door and turn to the left to the sherrif's office to turn yourself in.  If you ONLY KILL O'DRISCOLLS, your bounty will be less than $10, and you can pay that off easily.

You can then repeat the theft and keep taking the money on the table ($50.00) and killing O'Driscolls.  I did it about ten times and made $400.00+ easily.  You can also keep looting scholfields and dual wield them once you get the off-hand holster.

Go explore a cave and tell me you still feel that way.

Pro tip to make Lanterns unnecessary:

    Spoiler

Do the bounty for the Gunslinger in Stawberry.  Mark the cave on your map.

After turning him in, go back to the cave and activate the dynamite plunger.  It opens up a secret area that has a Unique Knife, Miner's hat, and gold nugget.  The Miner's Hat is like a flashlight for your head, and EXTREMELY helpful riding at night or exploring interiors.

    [[BLATANT SOLICITATION]

I am getting sick of this nonsense.  Can we get a dedicated subforum for this crap so it stops polluting general chat?  I report them as soon as I see them, but maybe if we had a "Solicitation" or "Social Sharing" sub, this would stop popping up like a bad case of herpes.

Edit: @Cokeyskunk, @Benjo, and any other mod...

Whoa, there, Scarface!  You may want to dial back on the murdery-ness.

Or better yet, use a melee attack ON a horse and get kicked by it.  Hilarious.

the "eagle eye" vision highlights lootable objects (bookcases, desks, etc).

It's also helpful to locate plants and herbs in the wild.  Also useful when looting a camp to point out consumables and lockboxes.

You don't always hit your target clean and sometimes wounded animals survive and get away

When Uncle Bropollo pulls the trigger on a whitetail deer IRL, that deer goes down and stays down.

To be fair, I only hunt deer, so I can see your point on a smaller animal if you're hunting with open sights, but I'm not a senseless butcher--that venison goes in my freezer.

  10. I need them to announce the beta dates for RDR2 Online so I can force myself to finish the story mode.  I'm just aimlessly meandering all over the map with no urgency whatsoever, and I need something to force me to buckle down.

Agreed, i despise him! Have you completed the epilogue yet?

No.  I'm over 40 hours in..... and I'm still in Chapter 2.  I've uncovered a LOT of the map, done as many side quests as possible (and haven't resorted to using the internet for clues/tips--straight up old school exploring), and just spent HOURS doing stupid stuff like trying to murder most of Valentine, "feeding the pigs",  trophy hunting, collecting, and slaying O'Driscolls with extreme prejudice...

I'll spend an hour exploring the middle of nowhere, or roping deer from horseback and killing them with a knife;  It really depends on what I"m in the mood for.  I don't know how much further I have to go in Chapter 2, because I haven't spoiled it for myself yet, but right now, the only two main quests on my docket are:

    Spoiler

meeting Marston at the oil wagon I stole to rob the train, and meeting up with Micah outside of Strawberry after I (was forced to) help him escape.  I'll probably do the train robbery tonight, and if I have time (and don't get sidetracked) I'll probably do Micah too, just so I can move the story along a bit further.

There's been plenty to do: I've located a lot of side businesses, and the hunting aspect of the game is a lot of fun for me, personally.  Once I have a solid release date for RDR2 Online, I'll probably accelerate my pursuit of finishing the main story, but for now, I'm enjoying the pacing just fine.

Definitely Makes you stand out in the gang with everyone else rocking the traditional Cowboy hat. I love it. How do you have your hair/beard?

Working on it still.  I cut everything off to make him look like Lemmy early on, and now I'm guzzling Hair Tonic like there's no tomorrow.  Once I get him suitably past length 9 or so, I'll revisit, but right now, he's getting pretty unkempt/Hillbilly-ish.  Regular baths seem to help, and so does pommade, but once that beard gets to where I want it to be, I'll probably look to get him a haircut.

Edit:  I'll get a pic up later.

Yes I am happy there is only 1 protag, but am I 100% happy with the one they have come up with? No. I'd much prefer someone that looks more like a badass than a dad. Like Micah Bell - he struck me as a brilliant character the first time I saw him speak in the trailer as he looked like someone a bit crazy and a bit of a badass. Would have much preferred that kind of character than Arthur.

I HATE Micah, and would gladly

Feed him to the pigs in Valentine

    Micah

I have a new rule for the forums:  Every time someone brings up Micah, I am required to thank folks for reminding me how much I hate that gutless yellow turd.  So, as required by my own rule, Thank you for reminding me how much I HATE Micah, and how much I wish I could have

    Spoiler

Thrown the dynamite into his cell in Strawberry to kill him, as opposed to freeing him.  He's the "Fredo" of the gang.

There is a stranger mission with some circus performer asks you to find a lost animal - I can't remember if it was a tiger or a lion though. I haven't completed it yet. Maybe you shot that.

To be fair, I shoot A LOT of things in this game.

It is pretty amazing the amount of in depth customization you have available to you in this game so let's see how you decided to dress, shave and style your Arthur! This is my outlaw as of last night. Trying to get that beard to max length. Digging the flat cap though. Sorry for the mediocre quality.

I love that cap and vest combo.  I use them too, along with the dark green trenchcoat and cavalry gloves.

At least until I can rock some overalls.

  17. I didn't realize this until last night, but you can activate the "tracking" option when looking, and any plants in the area that are able to be picked/consumed will light up, similar to when tracking animals.

It's been a lifesaver for me, personally.  If you haven't done this yet, I'd recommend going back to the areas where they're known to grow, and trying that out.  I always walk about ten or twenty feet (give or take) and activate it briefly while doing a quick spin if I"m looking for something specific.
