    I have it all planned out:  I'm going to make Mrs. Creed one of my patented "Knock Out Juice" specials (basically an Irish Mule with about triple the Jameson in it), and then "go to the gas station so I don't have to in the morning"  at 20:50.  Oh, what just happens to be right next to the gas station?  My local GameStop, which will be releasing the game to all preorder customers at 21:00 tonight.  By the time I get home, Mrs. Creed will be asleep, and I'll take a bottle of High West Rendezvous Rye into the Media Room, fire up the projector, and watch "The Magnificent Seven" (the real one, not that inadequate modern remake) while I wait for the install on my PS4.

    Then, as I've already taken tomorrow off of work, I'll play until the sun comes up, take my kids to school, power nap, and play until I have to pick them up in the afternoon.  

    Honestly, I'm having trouble concentrating at work right now because of the anticipation.

    Just kidding.  I was NOT a fan, but I don't begrudge folks who liked it.  I like plenty of crappy things myself, like Carribean Jerk barbecue sauce on top of brownies.  We all have our vices.

    Fixed that for you.  He's always been one of my favorite fictional characters (alas, Mrs. Creed didn't bite on "Thrawn" as a name for either of our sons, but I did slip "Garrett" past her, and bonus points if you can sort out which fictional characters--there are two--that I took that from), and the two newer novels by Zahn have not only refined, but tremendously improved the character and his backstory.  

    I love him so much that I DON'T want Disney putting him in anything else, because they'd inevitably ruin him the way they did Luke.

    I was on the fence after TFA, but I understood that they needed to do some world-building, and the only way they could get Ford back was to promise to finally kill of Han Solo, which he's been waiting 30+ years for.  TLJ's failure in the service of Luke Skywalker is one of the biggest storytelling mistakes Hollywood has ever made.  It's pretty telling when someone (me) could argue that the two spinoff films have been better than the main saga films post-Disney acquisition.  Rogue One is my second favorite SW film, period.  And Solo... I think that history is going to be kinder to Solo than we are now.  It felt more "Star Wars" than either of the new Main Saga films--and I could go on for days about a technical discussion of why it's better than people want to give it credit for.

    @YodaMan 3D, if you're on Reddit, check out r/saltierthancrait (TLJ Haters) and r/MawInstallation (technical, academic discussion on SW, such as weaponized gravity well generators, ship class designations between Legends and the new canon, etc...) I think you'll like them.

    Whereas I am cool with zombies, they did already do that and Borderlands, and Call of duty, etc.

    I would enjoy something a bit more Lovecraftian.

    Those all sound like viable ideas.  Shadows of Brimstone does some nice Lovecraftian things in Tabletop form, so maybe something like that?

    A place like walmart probably doesn't care so much. They don't rely on video game sales to stay open.

    Gamestop probably has a much tighter logistics supply chain than Walmart.  Because the majority of their inventory could fit within one aisle at a place like WalMart, they can have smaller distribution channels--hell, they don't even have trucks, they rely on freight shipping from their warehouses to their stores.  But big box retailers don't want to keep inventory at a warehouse that services multiple stores or regions--so they push that stuff out to the stores as quickly as possible via dedicated trucking (running between the warehouse/distribution center and the stores directly, not utilizing third party services like the USPS, UPS, FedEx or DHL).

    It's ridiculously easy for an employee to use their box cutter to open the shipper when it comes in and swipe a copy.  They know where all the cameras are, which ones are on, which ones are off, which direction they're pointing in, and where all the blind spots are.  The problem is, stores are designed one way, have the cameras installed, and then get reconfigured but nobody moves the cameras to compensate.

    When a store like Best Buy gets 300-500 copies of RDR2 in stock in the run up to Black Friday, one or two missing copies isn't even noticed.  Sure, if it becomes a problem (i.e. 5-10% of the inventory unaccounted for) then store or corporate security gets involved, but one or two is usually chalked up to theft by customers, mis-stocks (or customers putting it down over in the TV department) that doesn't get caught until monthly inventory is taken, if at all.

    Make no mistake, I'm not endorsing theft by any stretch of the imagination.  But it's much, much easier than people realize to get their hands on something like a videogame a few days before the street date.

    Edit: a good example of theft; back in my day, the grocery store I worked for sold DVDs (this was pre-Blu Ray).  Because the discs weren't in a hard, clear second cover (like you see for video games at big box retailers), one of the more common methods of theft was for people to grab the box, use a pin that was palmed to slice through the wrap along the long edge, pop the disc off the central pin and slide it out from between the edges of the DVD clamshell and through slit they made.  With practice, they'd pop the disc out of the casing before slitting the shrink wrap.  The whole thing could be done in less than ten seconds, and then they'd be gone.  The dead givaway would be the end of the night walkthrough when we'd find a DVD case in with frozen peas.  You'd shake the casing, and you wouldn't hear the disc inside.

    Wait, that's a different "talk".

    If I had to guess, there's plenty of people looking to score coveted "internet points" by posting leaks/spoilers.  Having worked in retail, you'd be surprised how early they ship product out in advance of street dates to brick and mortar stores.  

    You'd be even more surprised as to how easy it is to acquire these things early, especially as an employee.

    No.

    I mean, if you're looking for immersion, it doesn't get more immersive than playing the game in first person mode, with the hud off, and using your phone as a map that you have to refer to when necessary. 

    From a practical standpoint though, you're absolutely correct.  There's no reason to do both when the convenience of everything on a large display is unmatched in terms of efficiency.

    Are you kidding, I used to be a tee-totaler before I dated Mrs. Creed.  Her whole family are liberal with their alcohol consumption (albeit different mediums)--true story, her dad was okay with us dating because I only drank good scotch, neat (his other son in law would put Crown Royal in Coke--the heathen!).

    My mother-in-law likes when I come up with fun little cocktails for her, like the Simple Jack (muddled blackberries, ice, 2 (but really 4)oz of salted carmel vodka and 4oz apple cider in a double old fashioned glass), so as long as I make decent little drinks, I'm the #1 son in law.

    Mrs. Creed was slowing down until Whiteclaw came out, now she's in DGAF mode (which is why I love her)

    You need Bropollo's Spousal Roofie Special:  basically give (in my case) Mrs. Creed an Irish Mule with double the Jameson Caskmates (Stout variety) and put on Grey's Anatomy on Hulu.  Wait fifteen minutes, and once she's asleep, head to the media room and fire up the DLP projector with my headphones on.
