  1. The guide notes that some crimes, like Arson, are considered more severe in towns than in the wilderness, some the reverse.  It also gives a list of crimes, the bounties, and their severity (low, Medium or High).

But it also mentions that the more severe the crime the higher the bounty, yet this isnt reflected in the chart - so Assault (high) is $5, same as Trespassing (Low) $5.  And Unarmed assault is Medium in wilderness, Low in towns, yet either way is only listed as $5.

I suspect the super high bounties many, but not all, are experiencing are a combination of some hidden mechanics not known (or in the guide) plus maybe some glitches.

  2. My experience is different - so I think there's a degree of luck involved.  Or maybe tome of day.  Or location.  Or something.  I seem to be increasingly able to get away with murder (literally).  Of course, that might all change in the next ten minutes :)

  3. In the guide it says that you always pay a percentage when killed, by law or otherwise.  And every time you die within an hour beyond the first time the % increases.  The exception is dying in missions, of course - no penalty for that.  Oh, and if you only have $10 or less - then you pay nothing either.

So maybe you've found another bug?  Albeit a profitable one! :)

  4. That sounds right and reflected in the variations of experience reflected on this board - I'd be interested in knowing what is going on here: Is it just pure luck?  Play styles?  Random glitches? Or some hidden mechanics some are falling foul of?

  5. The legal system is flawed, mostly through bad controls + hyper-sensitive NPC reactions leading to too many inadvertent crimes and bounties.  But I'm haven't found it totally broken so far.  Fortunately I have been able to play so far without racking up huge bounties or triggering outrageous escalating crimes - in my game I've mostly got away with stuff (ever more so as I become more careful and control savvy) and not had any major issues.  It might be only a matter of time, or maybe it's a differing play style, or just luck.  I'm not sure.

  6. Sorry, no :(  I've never encountered a problem with loading so far (I pre-downloaded it and was able to play pretty much straight away), and have no idea what could fix it.  I guess you might have to contact customer support or something.  It makes me worried that tonight I wont be able to play - or at some random time in the future. :(

  7. Hmmmm...  Maybe I'll feel the same way as I get further into the game, but at the moment I've found it (as I said before) good, though not great.  I'm not sure what people were expecting, tbh.  It seems like a fair crack at giving the NPC world a degree of verisimilitude - I'm pretty happy with it so far.  Maybe after I see the same interactions play out a few hundred times it'll become more obvious and stale.

  8. On a related point, anyone see the kotaku article on RDR2s NPCs being too wooden?  Bit odd, and a bit harsh I think.  I'm actually fairly impressed with the detail of the NPCs and their 'memory' and responses, and the story elements/scripting and acting are excellent, IMHO.  I'm only a small way into the story and already I've had some genuine emotional kicks.  Interesting, funny, sad - a good variety of elements! :)
