Female Gamers: Are they too much a distraction for male players?

My group of friends/posse comprise of mostly women and maybe a couple guys on the regular. My friend is way more vicious than any of the guys in the group, she absolutely will wipe the floor with your face when it comes to free aim sniping and lassoing ugh (have many videos of her snatching me off my horse or sniping me from impossible areas).

There was a couple guys that we don't really play with anymore who apparently felt threatened by her and I and would try to put us down cuz he had some weird alpha male thing going on. Like he couldn't stand that we were higher rank and better skilled than him (idk about skill for me, I'm just paranoid af and tend to be a couple steps ahead of my enemies/opponents).

As far as a distraction, I've only really noticed that sometimes guys will be super annoying with the following around or hog-tying and killing once they realize I'm a woman.

Or my friend got ganged up on when some rank 280 something dude was trying to flirt with her and she didn't respond and just shotgunned him in the face. So he had his entire posse of 6 kill her repeatedly. She's rank 80.

Saying that female gamers might be a distraction for male gamers almost sounds as though the world would be better without female gamers.

Which, of course, is absolutely wrong.

I don't care whether gamers are male, female, non-binary, non-defining, gender-fluid, or wearing their grand-moms prom dress. I just don't care.

Just play the game, shoot the bad guys, and show respect toward your fellow gamers (whether on-team or opposing).

That's all I really want to see.

However, Online gaming seems to be about 75% jackasses.

I don't have an issue with females gaming, it has been my experience that they can be the most blood thirsty and ruthless players I have gamed with.  I just find it odd that when players hear a female voice in gaming.  They stop what they are doing to come over and try to impress her.  I just find it odd that the console cowboys, think they are impressing anyone online.

I have no idea whether a person is male or female and you cant go by their avatar or character either, many guys use female avatars and visa versa so...

Unless we are talking and they tell me they are a female, I would otherwise never know or care honestly,

I love it that some ladies like to game, I find it very appealing, my wife and daughters arent big on gaming, my youngest does play a little mostly lego games, ( I say my youngest, she is nearly 30, lol)

So I dunno, it makes no difference to me whatsoever your age, sex race, creed,  as long as we share the enjoyment of the game, its all good to me.

In my world of warcraft days it was pretty hardcore raiding, so it was just whoever's is best gets the gig. A few people I know met life partners through wow. I dated an American for 7 years who I met. Also a swedish BDSM submissive lady, but that was way too much hard work.

.....another sad thing is that your know he had that chain mail made for himself.  I mean, where would you even go these days to get something like that done?

There are online stores you can get that stuff from.

This whole scenario in the OP isn’t limited to games. It is a primary reason many oppose women serving in combat in the military. Men, culturally and perhaps even genetically, are ‘programmed’ to protect women. They tend to ignore orders, lose discipline, relegate to secondary the assigned mission to ‘go to the aid of’ women. Whether they need it, or not.

(Although, just limiting it to when a woman soldier, like any man, WOULD get injured and need help — it is a kind of valid point, from what I’ve seen of men and of soldiers).

yep agreed, but they'd go to an injured female before a male in any situation.  That's a complaint i hear from my friends in the reserves, and my brother who was in the navy and army.  Women are a distraction for most males, it's that little brain taking over (lower brain, whatever you call it in your area).  Agreed it's the younger generations more so than the older folk like me and some others mentioned.  Like @Kean_1 i was raised to give up my seat, open doors, etc. for women.  And not just women, seems out generation has more respect for fellow men and women than the current generation will ever have.

And then you gotta wonder why Australia's army is paying for women to get enhancements, tactic or stupidity?

I decided to create a female character for the online but I am a 40-year-old straight male. very often I get friend requests or chat invitations from players I casually meet just because they think I'm a woman. I usually ignore and go ahead. but sometimes I agree to chat and in the deepest voice I can,  i talk to them "hey man , how are you?"    LOL

I have played as female characters in many different games when given the option and the amount of desperation that comes for your nuts is sad. I never got like this with female gamers. Most of them are either in a relationship or full-blown married. Guys that find gals that will game with them are not quick to let them get away. lol

Two anecdotes -

I am good friends with a married couple that met online playing City of Heroes. They lived several states apart when they met through the guild online and are now married with 3 kids.  I thought he was crazy just for going out to meet her, much less marrying her.  But they are very happy and a good couple. So, I know, it can happen.  But I have also seen these relationships go the other way, badly.  So yeah, online life isn't all that different from real life.

I almost always play female avatars.  If I am going to stare at a game and my toon for hours on end I would prefer to stare at, well... because b00bs! :)

I never pretend to be a female 'player' and always find it amusing when I jump into a posse or something the first time and you can almost "feel" the disappointment when they match my microphone voice to my character.  I have had players offer me free gifts, leveling help, and many "private chats", over the years, until I let on (usually very quickly) that I am a guy.  They always seem so dejected, and sometimes offended, and I always find it amusing.

I was a CIty of Heroes (and Villians) addict, and a WoW addict.  I have friends that played Wow that are now married and met online through the guild we were in.  I actually introduced them as i worked with the guy and then met her online, I got invited by a guild member to join a raid he was in with another guild, this girl was in that guild and was fun in the team chat they had.  So we started messaging in game and talking, and I found out she was only a few hours away.  I was going to meet her for lunch one day but work intervened and i asked my friend to go in my place.  He'd talked to her in the teamspeak i think it was called, we had for our guild at the time, so he said sure! They really hit it off and now are married, no kids, still play WoW lol Now they say he set up the work problem that i had to stay for just so he could meet her.

I also have personal experience with the "badly" ones...  Stories for another day :P

Im going to say no because 99.9999% I have no idea if the person is a male or female anyway.
You can never tell anyway,

Now, it occurred to me maybe you meant simply attractive female avatars in game and are those distracting, and I would say, so far not really but I can see that.
especially a lady outlaw for many guy's can be very sexy so I guess I can understand how that might be distracting for a second, but all you have to do is remember the lady you are looking at, is most likely a 32 year old dude.

I made my username nearly 20 years ago lumper because it was neither male or female, it was just lumper, I dont want to be judged one way or the other with interactions with strangers online.

There are some females on YouTube that became famous for playing video games they never played. I can't remember the one chicks name but her boyfriend would play for her and she would pretend to be playing for attention. I find those "female gamers" to be the saddest of all.

Oops. Sorry.

Not your fault. Moto Girl bumped it but even then, it's not a problem.  Just joking around as it kind of surprised me when I got the notification regarding my old reply.  :)

The only female gamers I have issues with are the ones who clearly do it for attention. They may or may not enjoy the game but the attent they get from guys is what keeps them playing. I had an ex like this. She drove me nuts cause she always had to talk on the mic in online games.

Women gaming isn't an issue... It is the dudes who are so desperate for female attention/interactions that makes it bad. If the ones who do it only for attention knew they wouldn't get attention, then we would be left with nothing but people who just enjoy playing games.

I always feel its young kids.

I play horde with my wife and its the same others flock to her.

We only play horde together but the amount of lads she gets adding her is funny. Even some straight from the lobbies.

She had this one bloke on her list it was hilarious.

He only had women on his list.  If she was dbno she would run from where ever he was to get her up even before his wife. There was this one day him and his wife were fighting on the game because he kept going to help her. We were going laughing. Then over night he would dissappear off her list but then a few days later he'd ask her to add him again. This happened about 5 times. To this day we're sure it was his wife messing about deleting people. In the end we'd had enough and just ignored him.

I think it's just sad.

If there's a female in the lobby so be it. As long as there playing the game the best they can. I don't care if there male female or green and scaly.

Oh and ps, I knew I recognised your name from somewhere lol.

I only have issues with the desperation act some guys put on for the girls who gobble it up. If you are a female who happens to enjoy gaming, good for you but don't turn it into the bachelorette with a bunch of underaged virgins.

Haha, yeah, I agree. I think some female gamers on RDR2 are friggin' blood thirsty! I can't claim the same for myself, however. I usually hunt, or fish, or craft things --I'm a bit reserved to approach anyone, anyway.

I have to say that I -do- get hogtied a lot, at random :| I don't know if this is because I'm female, but it's rather annoying.

Also, as for the equality stuff? I wouldn't except too much of that when it comes to gaming. There's a lot of kids, teens --all those hormones and such, lol.

Is this more of an issue for console gaming or PC gaming ?? Because I didn't even know about it. I mean, I know there are women on Twitch who use their looks in the gaming genre to make a living. I am not going to hate on that either, if I was a hot lady I would probably do the same. No one want to watch my chubby, near middle aged, balding self play games and pay me for it. lol
