Need help with Hunting/donating in camp, what's the difference?

So as I have been hunting and stuff I cannot figure this out.

I kill something out in the wild... should I skin it and then come back to camp and donate the meat?
or
Should I pick it up and ride it back, donate the entire thing? Seems when I do this, I do not get the 3 star/perfect pelt.

Does anyone know how this works, which way is best or what the difference between the 2 ways is? I'd really appreciate some info and help about this, as I've tried many ways and cannot figure out what the differences are, which way is best for me to be doing.

It also seems, no matter how much meat/stuff I am donating, Mr.Pearson (the Cook) is always on my case about not pulling my own weight or bringing in enough meat for the camp. Is this just hard scripted and he says it no matter how much I am really bringing in, or do I need to constantly supply tons and tons of meat to the camp? I'm not even sure how this affects the camp if any because there is no meter nor do I hear anyone complaining about starving or anything.

Thanks

Really surprises me that no one is saying anything on this thread... surely people are donating food to their camps, I cannot be the only one?

How are you donating to your Cook in camp? Why are you doing it the way you are... have you tried it the other way? Which way do you prefer and why.

Depends on what your trying to achieve. If I'm not mistaken, can't you carry both? Just skin the animal put it on your horse, then pick up the corpse and then place it on your horse, or you can just take the entire animal back to the camp and then figure out what you need to get done with that animal.

No, if you bring back the corpse and toss it down, or skin it in camp, it automatically boots you out of camp with a message stating that corpses and things are stored outside the camp. Doesn't seem to let you donate the corpse in any way - which is the reason for my initial question.

You can hitch the horse nearby the merchant or in camp and just go sell/ donate, it will go from the horse and you don't need to carry it.

That's awesome to know, I've been wasting time carrying the damn thing every where.

So best way is to:
Go hunt
Kill it
Skin it in wild
Pick up corpse
Put corpse on horse
Ride back to camp
Leave on horse, walk to cook and donate corpse from horse?

This will allow me to keep pelt and things I can use while donating the rest for food?

I understand this...

Should I skin them in wild when I kill them or turn them in whole? What is the difference?

How should I be doing this, as in - what is the best way to be doing this?

In general you only really need to return the perfect pelts, returning the carcass too just nets you additional money (and likely improves food in the camp, not 100% about that though).  Occasionally there are some challenges where you're required to "bring 5 carcasses to camp" or something similar, in which case returning them is beneficial.

Pro tip: some of the smaller animals can actually be stored inside Arthur's satchel meaning you can potentially bring back multiple carcasses per trip to hit those goals.

In general I try to aim for a specific upgrade and focus on just the ingredients (pelts, feathers, horns etc) for that goal. Once camp is fully upgraded I sell everything to the trapper. He requires a tonne of perfect pelts for all the custom costumes and offers higher returns than the camp.

Hope that helps.

There is no one perfect way to do It, it depends on what you are trying to achieve.

Do you want money, if so take it to the butcher. Maybe it is a 3 star and you need the pelt then skin it and sell the carcass. When skinning you also get meat and normally another part of the animal, either keep for crafting /cooking or sell for money/donate.

When taking stuff to pearson/camp there are 3 options. Crafting, provisions and funds, when donating it will tell you what it will be used for when selecting the object you want to donate. So if you have a perfect pelt pearson can use for crafting it will say it is going to be used for crafting. You can bank perfect pelts/crafting items with pearson, so once you have donated all the crafting items pearson needs any future donations will be for funds.

To skin or not to skin is your choice. If i am going to just sell or donate a animal that i put on the horse i don't skin it. if i want to donate the meat but sell the skin i will skin it. Also i have nothing to back this up or done any testing but i think it takes longer for the animal to spoil when it is not skinned, just my opinion.

I still had 5 crows from an encounter, that did it for me (surprisingly). Unfortunately, I had already gone through the effort of killing 5 other animals to meet that...

I've ridden around with skinned animals for days and never had them decay. I think they only decay if you leave them on the ground. I've had a turkey decay before I got to it because I killed like 5 in a row and skinning took too long, but that's it.
