Horrible camera panning/zoning while riding/moving

I'm finding it perplexing that when I am riding on my horse and try to greet/rob someone that as I ride by, focus and quickly hit the button, that the cameras push in close from the side and damn near throw me off my horse to complete the action.

I also find it frustrating during a quest when I am trying to follow someone in the pack and my horse will match speed ok but not go off to the sides non stop, run into trees/obstacles... and I've even died with my horse a couple of times because the camera positioning is terrible.

Any suggestions on how to make this better during these 2 activities?

While you're focusing on someone, the game tries to keep Arthur turned and facing them. This can be a problem if you're riding by too fast and close to them, since it will try to turn him quickly to keep facing the person. It's best to slow to a crawl before interacting, especially if you are getting very close.

When riding with the gang, you have two options:

1. Use cinematic camera, which will almost always have Arthur ride intelligently, and avoid obstacles. It's not 100%, especially if you haven't bonded with your horse well, but it's pretty good in my experience.

2. Ride manually, and make occasional course corrections. This will allow you to look around where you like and get a clearer sense of what's going on, but you have to be a little more vigilant.

I agree, I absolutely hate the way the camera forces you into a perspective when interacting with an NPC. This must be the single dumbest design choice of this entire game. I really wish they would provide an option to turn that crap off.

As Skysaw said, I slow down when getting closer to others that I want to talk to on horseback especially if I am going to engage in more dialogue than a simple one-time greeting.  .....it's a hell of a lot easier to keep your horse on the road.  Also, if you ride too fast and too close to people when passing on roads, you risk making them upset which makes sense.   

As for following others, I still use the "autopilot" but I make manual course corrections along the way as needed.

The most pet peeve I have is when you look behind you to shoot someone and when you shoot the gun, the camera doesn't quickly turn back to face forward, so your basically blind of what's in front of you when your trying to shoot at whoever is behind you. 

Although it is a complaint of mine, I did something that helped the issue by turning up the sensitivity pretty high so I can turn my view quickly to the front of my horse to see where I'm going.
