Server Disconnects from Rockstar

I should also add that I did not say I agreed with their reasoning. As stated my ping is horrendously worse and I have no issues with disconnects???

Cole also told me that in GTAO they found an issue causing disconnects related to Power Saving mode on Xbox One. It needs to be set to NO power saving. Apparently having 'instant on' set,  the Xbox never really shuts down causing excess data stored in cache.

Please create tickets if you have issues, (I'm sure y'all have already done so.

This reminds me of an issue I was having with ESO when I first picked it up on PS4.  When you mentioned, "excess data stored in cache", it clicked for me.  I'm going to try resetting my data cache tonight when I get home.  If anyone is interested, the steps are actually provided on R*'s site:

image.png.d6d3340b5e10dffdb3a7498184d9a641.png

I will check back in once I've had a chance to try it out.

I noticed I will have some issues with some games related to "packet loss" or whatever else but other games are fine. This means it isn't my internet but the server. They are having some kind of issue and they don't know where it is. You should give them an idea of your location and your provider tower location. Maybe they can pinpoint an issuer with nearby servers or something.

As stated I have informed them of my issues as well as the results of port forwarding, etc. I agree the issue looks like it is on their end. Although they say disconnects are not a widespread problem.

Update: It seems that R* is just passing my email chain around their office. Just as I was getting support from one supervisor, he vanishes from thread and a new Supervisor is taken over the thread. Now I get to explain everything again and resend screenshots, etc..

Of course they could be bumping the chain up the Supervisor ladder in an effort to fix these disconnect issues.

I am going to suggest they keep one Supervisor on this issue.

Update to follow.

I actually have a video saved on my PS4 that shows about five disconnects in the span of six minutes, mostly trying to matchmake for Gun Rush, but I also have video support for my internet speeds too, so I'm going to put it on Youtube and then email them.  They'll have a hard time refuting that.

Update Y'all:

Just got a call in response to my email about getting passed around the office. Alicia and I spoke and I was told that assigning someone to your issue does not happen. She also dropped it on me that Players Unknown, which I mentioned as giving no disconnects, operated on a different server architecture that RDR2. PUBG uses dedicated servers to host hundreds of players, RDR2 uses peer to peer servers. This explains to me my issue, on the face of it. But it doesn't explain why they don't dedicate servers.

I asked to speak to Cole again as he had the background. Cole lets me down easy and says there is nothing they can do for me. They believe it's my low speed DSL. So thanks for all the time and effort, goodbye.

How ya like 'dem apples?

I registered on behalf of a friend of mine. Whenever we play online, he would get constantly booted out of the game and receive error codes. At which the 0x20010006 would be the most common one.

I believe the longest period of time we could play together - without getting any error’s - would be two hours. As of late, the game has been unplayable for him with errors occuring every 10 - 15 minutes. We’ve tried installing DMZ, forwarding ports and check his router’ firmware; unfortunately nothing of the above helped.

I’m a little frustrated about the fact R* hasn’t announced some sort of public statement about the matter. RDR2 is the only game that tends to give such errors.

I have a friend who has been having the same issues anytime we try to play. Is he able to play without you by chance? I think there might be some kind of server issue where someone joining a server closer to player A causes player B to have connection problems because of the distance. I could be wrong. I am in the US and my friend is in the UK, we haven't been able to play together in over a month now.

I've played with folks from the UK and as far as Hong Kong (I'm on the West coast of the U.S.).  ......rarely any issues.  In fact, I hardly have issues regardless of who I play with but I still do have them once in a great while.

I don't know what the circumstances are that cause this issue more for some than others, but I think the important thing to note here is there are still connection issues R* needs to address.

R* has told me in phone conversation, that their servers are peer to peer, not dedicated servers. They claim ping is not the most important criteria, then they do. I don't think they know or care about us few. As long as millions are not having issues.

No, he is not able to, unfortunately. I sincerely hope Rockstar will fix this issue, it's too easy to blame the user(s).

My brother seems to disconnect quite often, but we are attributing it to his internet as often he drops from our party chat on PS4 as well. Sometimes it comes up as a NAT error too. But what is troubling me the most is it seems posse invites are sporadic these last few days.

My brother kept sending me posse invites while we would be standing next to each other and they weren't coming through on my end, and Invites was even greyed out in my Quick Menu.

Then my friend tried sending us both a posse invite and same thing. My friend has extremely fast internet too. I even tried closing out of RDR2 altogether to see if rebooting would help, but nope. We then spent the rest of the afternoon fist fighting each other lol

I was getting these all the time.  Contacted R* several times and while they were helpful, they kept giving the same advise..Clear cache, reset Router, open ports.  I basically tried everything and it still happened. I tried checking what channels the other nearby routers were using which was inconclusive, so eventually, I bought a long ethernet cable and hard-wired my PS4 to the router.  Since I did that I have not had one 006 termination and not been kicked out at all (now I've said that it'll probably be unplayable later).  So I think the reason may have either been to do with the ports or something that was causing a very brief data loss causing it to drop out.  R* will claim the issue is with your ISP, the ISP will claim its not there issue.  Anyway, a 5m cable was <£5 and it doubled my speed, and improved stability no end, so Happy Days!

There's a secondary resource on R*'s website, which troubleshoots router issues in a bit more detail:

What helped me stabilize was activating UPnP.  It didn't eliminate the disconnects entirely, but the connection is definitely more stabilized than it was.  I have a combination Modem/Router, so short of running an ethernet cable, it's the best I'm going to get.

About Posse invites, I was having this issue as well.  My problem was I having was I had a big list of posses that I have joined prior.  I had to go into my list and abandoned each posse in the list, even though they wasn't active and no one including myself was even in them.

Is anyone else having these constant disconnects with server error ending in predominantly **006 (see attached screenshot)?

I have been going back and forth with Rockstar support, and have forwarded suggested ports to a static ip on my xbox one, with some improvement in service. Still getting disconnected sometimes every 5 minutes or if I'm lucky I have seen 1 hour of gameplay. I have never seen this poor server connection issue while playing other online games, such as players unknown, etc. I am surprised that Rockstar does not have a better handle on this issue, considering all their experience with GTA online.

Please share your insights.

You're not the only one this happens to.  I'm pretty sure it's not our end either.  I have a hard-wired connection to my modem/router and have an open NAT with no errors.  Yet I still get disconnected at least once per play session.  I've contacted Comcast gaming section on multiple occasions, for other games, and I have my Xbox One X reserved so there's no competing with the other devices in my house.  Not sure what the issue is but it needs to be addressed.

It's ridiculous.  I disconnected more than half a dozen times in an hour of attempting to play free roam last night.  I've tried everything from port forwarding to hard lining directly into the modem and cutting out the router.

Nothing works.

This is the only game this happens to me on, when Gun Media's Friday the 13th: The Game has a more reliable connection to it's dedicated servers than R*, when I can play the Division for four or five hours on a weekend with ZERO disconnects, the issue lies with R*.  Not with my ISP, not with my home network, not with anything I have any control over.

For the folks who enjoy the online game with little or no connectivity disruptions, I'm happy for you.  The few times I've been able to play the game for more than twenty or thirty minutes online without a D/C have been amazing.  But when I load up my horse from a hunting trip, only to disconnect before getting to town, it's an issue for me (and countless others).  Now, I'm out the ammo (which you have to pay for and grind), the carcasses, and the time spent--with nothing to show for it except some meat in my satchel when I respawn.

I'm not asking to be made whole, I just want an explanation from R*.  The silence and stonewalling, coupled with the always prevalent "it's a beta" excuses have worn thin.  They know it's an issue, just admit it and tell us what you're doing to investigate/address the issue.

If they can't fix this issue in a few weeks, I'm out.  Done.  I'll finish the story mode and trade the game in for max value (still trading for over $30 at most retailers) before Anthem and The Divison 2 drop in the next few weeks.  Not everyone has 5-8 hours a day to play the game.  I'm lucky if I can squeeze in 45 minutes to an hour and a half every couple of days, so my patience is somewhat thin when I can't get an online session to last as long as it takes to cook a frozen pizza in the oven.

I'm frustrated beyond belief right now.  Last night was so arduously torturous with all the disconnects that I find it inexcusable for them to sit there and act like it's not anything to do with their end.

Edit:  The most telling thing?  I've never, not once, been able to fire up my ps4 and log into Free Roam without disconnecting before getting into a server.  I always have at least one disconnect before a successful attempt.

It is insanely frustrating to have Rockstar say absolutely nothing on the topic.  From the looks of this forum we aren't the only ones this is happening to.  I knew it wasn't my end but wanted to be doubly sure when I call their support line and be told it's probably my network and to check it first, I'd be ready.  I play a lot of other games on rotation and I don't have any issue whatsoever, with the exception of the Anthem VIP demo, now that was a mess.

I've already moved on until Rockstar decides to comment and/or release new content for online.  I had finished the campaign a month or so ago.  I had pre-ordered Anthem and The Division 2 so that'll keep me busy while Rockstar remains mute on the topic.  Shame.

I feel bad for you folks this is happening to.  I get random disconnects too but in my case they are very rare and seem dependent on the session.  ....I can usually tell something is not right (e.g. lag, missions not appearing on the map, etc.).  Even in those cases I might be disconnected once or twice but again, it's rare that I ever do.

I still reported it to R* however as this was something they said they addressed in one of the first updates.  .....it's not fixed IMO / IME.

@Kean_1.  I agree it needs reported, but to be fair this a day one issue and for some getting worse as times flies.  At some point Rockstar is doing nothing but ignoring these messages cause they apparently have no answers.

Thought I was being fair in my post.  I wasn't dismissing the problem, quite the opposite.

As for reporting, my point was that anyone who has had the problem even in rare cases like me should submit a trouble ticket with R* Support.  The more people that do, the more it will become apparent to R* that this is more widespread problem than perhaps they will admit.  We can all talk about it in forums but we should also be encouraging everyone affected to submit their own support tickets to help drive change.

I agree and you are 100% correct that it needs reported.  Just from my experience, some day 1 issues that the Devs can't resolve and push it off as acceptable casualty.  Seeing how I know some players as well and myself have already reported these issues and I haven't had it as bad as others.  Starting to feel it is on their ignore list.  I understand why some players just get tired of hoping for the fix, when it just isn't in Rockstars budget to fix it.

I keep getting constant disconnects when using my ADSL internet. When I'm fishing, doing stranger missions, when talking to vendors etc. But when I switch to my mobile internet I rarely get disconnects, and I do mean rarely. I'm playing most of the time with a friend, and she also use a mobile internet connection. And she, like me, doesn't get disconnects as often using her mobile internet.

Keep getting disconnected near the end of stranger quests. Frustrating as hell. Im just about to turn it in for the reward and I get disconnected. Decided to just turn the game off. Will R* be fixing this any time soon?

Every night I play and seem to get disconnected at least every 30 min. I have no issue with other online games. My router is set correctly, I am using solid DNS settings, and have tried all the PS4 configurations R* suggested.

I am so frustrated I can't play online.

Hi @DNMNetTech and welcome to the forums.

If it's all the same to everyone here, I'm going to merge this with the "Constant Disconnect" thread you mentioned @Foxtrot.  I'll edit the first sentence of the post so it melds in.

EDIT: Ooops. Guess I inadvertently locked this thread when merging Tech's response.  .....sorry all.  It's been corrected.
