But they waited 15 minutes just to mess with us. I've personally only felt "griefed" twice in my time here and that was one of them. I am clearly running away there are others who would love to fight, so why target? And no not you specifically as I don't think you fall in the same category as these people, but I don't understand the reasoning behind something like that. I do appreciate the input though. I don't mind being killed, that's part of the game. It's when you go out of your way to keep someone else from playing the game. But I don't like being targeted for no reason. The other instance was someone literally following me from session to session. Edited March 1, 2019 by Renascent

I know y'all wanna play how you want, but there's a fine line you cross when you go way out of your way to harass someone when they obviously don't want to be bothered. Yeah I could have parley, I forget that's a thing cuz I don't usually run across people that disgustingly persistent. Like do you have nothing better to do? For me, the problem isn't multiplayer games, it's multiplayer games with lazy coding or less than honest developers. For me, this is a given: I expect for some players to take advantage of whatever they can and to be (what I consider) less than honorable. Unfortunately, I see it as human nature. But that's where the developers come in. It's up to them to either code their game correctly and to be honest to the gaming community about what they want their game to be. If Rockstar wants griefers, that's fine. But then don't turn around and tell us they are instituting anti griefing methods. Their promotional materials say Red Dead Online is supposed to be "a fun and fair environment for everyone. Please use the in-game reporting tools to report any abusive behavior..." Yet their efforts to stop what I consider "abusive behavior" and to keep the environment "fun and fair for everyone" are pathetic so far (again, my opinion). Yes, it's some of our fellow gamers who are doing what they can to ruin the experience for others but the fault ultimately lies with Rockstar. They shouldn't promise one thing and then take no steps to guarantee what they promised. (Sorry, but those blips equal absolutely nothing for me.) I say multiplayer games as I'm not a people person and I quit my last mmo cuz I can't stand people most of the time (even irl). But in my experience with the blip system I think it's helping to a degree, not exactly as was intended but it's not entirely useless. I've noticed people are less on edge, even stopping to say hello or hunting in the same area and minding their own. 95% of the time a dark blue dot is around they are friendly. Every other color, purple and dark red were what they were, hostile. In the instance that happened yesterday, that posse was up in Van Horn and I was in Rhodes, so I was fine. But by the time I got my wolf for the mission and was at the post office waiting it out, they had come to where I was. Stood there right in front of me with guns out. One guy even stole the bird off my horse I forgot about and sold it (didn't mind it cuz it was only 1.75). There were at least 5 other dark blue people not in the safe zone, there were at least 2-3 purples to hanging around. But why me? Killing people is fine and all but don't call it pvp when you're standing around for 15 minutes waiting to shoot someone fresh out of a cutscene who isn't able to immediately defend themselves. Then proceed to chase the red glow across the map when I've clearly fast travelled twice to get away from you.

While I play just about all of the quality titles (I play on the three consoles and PC), I believe the games that I play the most are multiplayer as in the Battlefields, The Division, FFXIV, Guild Wars 2, etc. But there are actual rules that keep gameplay in check. For instance, since I purchased Red Dead Online on the Pro, I've blocked over 100 people on PSN. I don't believe I had blocked anyone previously. I solo in all those games because I'm also not the most social of people and I will drop the controller/keyboard in a second if something in real life occurs so I wouldn't want to screw up a team that was relying on me (oddly enough, those blocked people on PSN I would love to encounter adversarially in the Battlefield games). Oh, and for those of you who will understand this, I've never been in the Dark Zone. My worst experience with the blip system occurred when I was half watching the map and seeing nothing as I decided to go from Tumbleweed to Valentine, I believe. I kept checking. seeing nothing, checking, seeing nothing, checking, seeing nothing. I guess I got lulled into a false feeling of security (and that is the only thing the blip system does in my opinion) because all of a sudden there was someone going the other way on the road taking shots at me. Instinctively, I sped up and was able to get away and I took that as a win. Typically, I don't run, I just take the death, report the person, block the person and then send Rockstar feedback with the person's name telling them how I was minding my own business and ask them what they are doing to ensure I can play in a "fun and fair environment" where Rockstar also said I could solo. Dude.. that's just sad. You don't run? You just lie down, take a death and report the person? This brings shame to Authur Morgans name. See that right there isn't griefing in my opinion. That's just a part of the game despite what Rockstar may say about a 'fun fair environment'. To me that's just a normal part of red dead. Now if that person had turned around, followed you and wouldn't let you be even after clearly leaving the area. Then THAT would have been what I call griefing. Or like before the update, if you killed someone and they left the session to another, you could follow them and keep it up. But someone shooting at you for no reason? Nah. NPCs do much the same thing. Hell they get aggressive if you stand too close to them sometimes. I'm not gonna say I'm a saint, I've shot at and killed randoms for no reason other than shenanigans. But if they run away or even ask me to leave them be, I'll leave them alone and I never do it to a lowbie.

To me, it's griefing if you do it once. You feel that someone should have to "even ask me to leave them be"? (Though you said "ask" I initially typed "beg" instead of "ask" because I pretty much see that as the same thing.) Sorry, I don't think that's appropriate. But Rockstar needs to be clearer about what their game is to be. I certainly didn't buy a game where I considered a "fun and fair environment" would be one where I would have to beg--sorry, ask--for someone not to shoot me when I'm minding my own business. There are plenty of games that manage to easily accomplish this and they've done it for years. Again, it goes back to Rockstar being honest about what this game/beta is supposed to be.
Ragee503
So I was on last night a bit trying to grind up some money and xp via collecting herbs pretty much minding my own business and all was good. I come down out of the hills north of emerald station and veered east in order to avoid a known hazard area of emerald station to go to a fishing hole I like. I saw a blue dot on mini map and went opposite direction but couldn't loose him. Then three more appears from direction I am going to so I changed directions again. By the time I was almost to Blackwater these clowns were still on my ass. I looked at player list and they were from level 200 to 85 and I am 29. So as I was thinking to myself that I am actually paying to be harassed like this I decided to log after blocking them of coarse. The point I am trying to make here is that this is not fun at this point and I am really tired of other people ruining my game for me. I mean come on guys what kind of challenge is that. R* has the coding in place to make the game fun for all by adding invite only sessions but they refuse to implement it. I think all you people should be able to play the game the way you like and that includes those that choose to be back shooters and those like myself that want to play with friends that have the same play styles. I like a good shoot em up as well as the next but to run around in constant chaos is not what I bought into. For me it is time to shelf this one for maybe a later date. I will be playing from time to time when I see friends on but as a solo player I think I am done. Hmm maybe go to Division for awhile dunno.....

If they keep coming back for me, I'm going to keep obliging. I've had people pre-emptively ask or tell me or my posse to leave them alone if we were nearby. I'm not saying we gun over to a low rank to mess with them. But they simply politely stated what they were doing and we told them we weren't doing nothing other than hunting/missions ourselves. So now that we know the intentions we go about our way. I've walked by several people and left them be only for them to shoot me in the back too. So you're not really innocent, anyone that walks by could shoot you. That's just the reality of it when there's pvp in a game. I once was just crab walking around St Denis and somewhat following a guy, no guns out, just crab walking to be weird. He pulls a gun on me and shoots at me, would he be a griefer? In fact, they almost encourage griefing through server broadcasts. Though I did play GTA, I never brought expectations of "fun and fair environment" with me when I did. But, even so, if I remember correctly, I played in a private lobby or something, I believe? I don't know if Rockstar cares what happens in Red Dead Online or not. From my viewpoint, I lean toward your assessment of the situation. But their quoted material says otherwise. If they don't care, they should outright say it. Though I can appreciate your taking the time, you can't really speak for Rockstar. What I'm saying is, if Rockstar shares your opinion, they should state it so that the community knows what to expect. What Rockstar did say is this: "We also ask for your help in keeping Red Dead Online a fun and fair environment for everyone. Please use the in-game reporting tools to report any abusive behavior..." and "Explore the world solo or with friends." https://www.rockstargames.com/reddeadredemption2/online https://www.rockstargames.com/newswire/article/60711/Red-Dead-Online-Beta So, I can either take your comments about what you think Rockstar wants or I can take quoted material from Rockstar itself. Back to what I've been saying: Rockstar needs to come clean about the game they want us to play and code the game so that it is delivered. I know for a fact that passive lobbies that allow us to hunt and fish are easily achieved. Why Rockstar won't let us officially use them makes no sense to me, though some have said that Passive Mode or something similar was found in datamined content. Maybe they're holding off for official release after beta? Edited March 2, 2019 by Netnow66 their

Punyama Punpun
So, i slightly skimmed through this forum since i was looking for info on freeaim lobbies and ended up here and i honestly have to state that this thread really hurts to read. I dont know if 99% of the guys here crying griefer are new to Rockstar games but freemode is what the name states, a FREE mode. Normally that means that everything goes to sh*t at one point or another but you have people crying about being shot at in a WESTERN game as if you're supposed to hold hands and sing kumbaya. I got an honest question for people here, would you rather friendly lobbies like RDR1 had or do you actually expect everyone else to conform to the way you think the game is meant to be played? Theres so many people here staying that you're "not supposed to shoot in freemode because Rockstar made TDM matches for that" but Rockstar made it so you can shoot people in freemode for a reason. The best fights are in freemode, where nothing is fair and anything can happen but you have people complaining about it left and right as if they're playing some kind of MMO with safe spaces. I personally hunt down other players, not because im trying to "grief" them but because i enjoy PVP combat in a freemode setting. I would love for Rockstar to add Friendly, Normal and Hardcore lobbies to RDR2 because its evident that the system they're working with right now to keep the player base in one lobby is just pissing everyone off. So i want to ask once again, would all you guys rather a friendly mode? there is a large group of people who want free aim lobbies and then there are threads like this who have people who dont want interaction with other players at all so i personally feel that this is a perfect example of us NEEDING separated lobbies. GTAIV still has people playing it on Xbox 360 in both ballad and IV on both aim modes so i feel that numbers wouldnt be an issue at all for the servers.

They are the spice of life in the wild west, especially in R* free roam sand box games.. A completely controlled free roam experience is not why I play R* games. Last thing I want is a weird forced structured mmo style opt in pvp free roam game. Which some seem to be asking for.. instead of private/free aim lobbies. Vaderspupil
I've had very little problem with players randomly attacking me since the latest update. One did kill me the other night so I initiated a feud with him. He messaged me afterward apologizing telling me he did so because he wanted me to initiate a feud since one of the daily challenges was to win one feud. It was something I was hoping for too. Unfortunately for me he won and I never completed the challenge. Other than that I ride by blue dots all the time without incident. Sometimes even red dots. BTW welcome to the forums. I'm with Kreg, the daily challenges are basically forcing people to hunt other players. The lower levels are most likely just trying to grab whatever the prize is for completing them all. Tumbleweed is my safe haven as well, it's usually quiet and tons of birds to hunt as well. Also, spawning into the town furthest from where you want to play and then fast traveling to your actual spot works great most of the time. I spawn into Blackwater and then fast travel to Rhodes, usually puts me by myself for a long time.
