changing ammunition on PC

anyone found out already how to change the ammunition type on PC?

it seems easy and intuitive at first, like on consoles, by selecting the weapon and then changing using the keyboard arrows, but nothing happens. i've been buying lots and lots of ammunition types expecting to unlock it or something, all that different ammo appears on the circle menu but i can't find any way to change. i searched already on control settings but there's nothing there for it, i guess it might be some kind of secret key combination. any ideas?

You have to select it after you toggle over it. I use a controller so I am not 100% sure on this but you should be able to do it the same way you change a weapon, use the arrows to go over the ammo you want and then hit the number it falls under to use it.

it doesn't seem to work that way on PC with keyboard and mouse, maybe it's an option only for controllers. i already saw tons of videos for console and it's ultra easy on a controller, but on keyboard and mouse it doesn't matter what key you use, i tried all the keyboard keys and even tried with the mouse pointer while i have the weapon selected on toggle but it never changes.

i was really enjoying the hunt, but looks like i'll have to just do other stuff instead, until they fix it for keyboard or someone finds a way to do it.

Have you check into what is set for your keyboard by default? Go into the settings on the main title menu and then go to key mapping. It should show you what it is set to.

the only thing that appears on the key mapping related to it is "switch weapon firing mode" and it's set to 'B' as default, but it doesn't work either. it doesn't work on the wheel menu and not even directly hitting 'B'. i tried already to change it but doesn't solve, so, i'm using again the default keys just hoping a fix is released.

I am having the same trouble. I have tried every key and nothing works. Really annoying as I have crafted loads of split point ammunition, but I can't select it :|.

I would really appreciate any help with this.

UPDATE: NM, the Z key changes ammo types...DOH!

OK I'm not going crazy.  I can't figure out how to change ammo type either.  I've bought all different types, but can't use it.

However, I'm only on chapter 3, so maybe it unlocks later in the game?  I did get the hint from somebody (I think on the grizzly hunt) about using different types, but still can't actually do it.

yes. Z and X is working. i don't know how i missed those, i clicked so many keys on the other side of keyboard that i end up missing that side :D

anyway, it seems that rockstar forgot to include those keys on settings and the mouse is not working.

Thanks.

In the console version, there are plenty of times that it becomes advantageous to switch out your ammo. With either ammo you bought, or ammo you crafted.

This reminds me,  I'll need to keep a small notepad nearby. To jot down the various keys required to do various things in the game. The game has many complex systems going on. To simulate many things in the game world. All together it works really well. But, I will sometimes forget how to do, or what to press, to accomplish various things. This happened on Console when I played it with controller. And is happening on the PC. I'm playing through the intro, and got that mission with the 1st big shootout where you get the dynamite for the train. And I forgot what keyboard button to press to use cover! And I died.

What baffles me is that they didn't actually have a controls list anywhere. I mean it is a console game ported to the PC, they have to figure there would be some confusion. I can't even find a list of controls online anywhere.

This should have been a no-brainer for the PC but apparently Rockstar thinks otherwise. Rather than scrolling through reams of dialogue within the menu to try and decipher it all (and many things aren’t included anyways) would be nice to simply include on-screen key mapping.

I don't understand it either. I can't even count how many issues I have seen people having with keyboard related controls over the last few weeks. Simply releasing a control page on the damn Rockstar website would help! I am not one to play a game like this on a keyboard but I know plenty of PC only gamers who don't use controllers ever.

I noticed this as well. I was having trouble with it and played earlier today and it worked. I still prefer using my controller but I want the option to use both and haven't been able to since my mouse had issues.

I had the same issues when I started - this thread helped me re "z" and"x", but I finally fouind out how to change the keys

If you go into settings, controls, keyboard and mouse, the top item is keymapping - this will let you change any and all allocated keys and will give you the list of what does WHAT (only took me a couple of weeks to find it!)

I really which one could have the same keys's for multiple actions when it's separated in context.
For example, change to the menu navigating key's from arrow keys to WASD. I mean if you're in the menus, you can't move with the WASD key's anyway. But the game wont let me change it without removing the bind from the movement key selections.

It's frustrating and annoying to change to arrow keys with left hand anytime you navigate the stuff in the satchel and other menus on the fly.

Yeah they have the key mapping in the section but simply telling you what does what while playing the game would be handy. So many PC and Console games do this by default.

Yeah on the PC I just hit the TAB key to bring up the weapons wheel, then under the highlighted weapon within the wheel and within the weapon details itself right below the graphic of the weapon selected I simply mouse click on the ammo I want to chamber. Of course greyed out ammo won’t naturally be available but always works for me on the stuff that is.
