Red Dead Online Posses Guide

Red Dead Online Posses Guide

Red Dead Online is all about enjoying a huge open world together with other players. The online component of RDR2 allows you to not only compete against one another in the Showdown Series, a playlist of different modes ranging from Battle Royale style to deathmatch modes, but also complete missions and other activities together.

In Red Dead Online, players can band together in Posses. Posses are the game’s way of creating gangs, as the game allows players to even name Posses, give them an emblem, set up a permanent camp and customize it in a variety of ways.

In this guide, we will cover everything there is to know about Posses and how they enhance the Red Dead Online experience.

How to Create Posses

To be able to create Posses in Red Dead Online, you must complete the Honor Among Horse Thieves mission. Once you make it back to the camp, you will have the option of creating a Posse by pressing the left button on the directional pad or the L button on PC, and then selecting “Form Posse”.

Temporary and Persistent Posses

Red Dead Online allows players to create two different types of Posses, Temporary and Persistent Posses.

Temporary Posses are, like the name suggests, temporary, as they will disband as soon as the Posse Leader quits the session. The maximum number of members your Posse can have when creating this type is also limited to just four.

The good thing about Temporary Posses is that they are free, so setting one up is a good way of finding other players to enjoy the game with, without having to make any sort of investment.

Persistent Posses are effectively the clans of Red Dead Online. Setting one up will cost $200, but it’s a well worth investment if you are planning to enjoy the game with your friends for a long time, as the Posse will continue being available even if the leader quits the session. Persistent Posses can also be named and customized, and stats will be tracked. The maximum number of members that this type of Posse can support is seven.

Posse Bonuses

Forming or being part of a Posse carries several benefits for its members, making it worth the effort. Playing missions as a Posse will give everyone increased Gold and XP rewards upon completing the mission. The Posse will also remain together if the Leader opts into events, meaning every member will be teleported to the game location. All members can see the Leader’s waypoints as well. These waypoints can be used to trigger Posse races, allowing you to earn a bit of XP on the side.

Camp

No matter the type of Posse, they all require a camp. Inside the camp, you can access the Wardrobe, craft weapons, and tonics, rest and even set up fast travel if the camp has been upgraded. Camps can be set up in 12 different locations: Scarlett Meadows, Bayou Nwa, Big Valley, Cholla Springs, Cumberland Forest, Gaptooh Ridge, Great Plains, Grizzlies, Heartlands, Hennigan’s Stead, Rio Bravo, Roanoke Ridge, and Tall Trees.

There are two different types of Camps in Red Dead Online. The Small Camp can hold between one and four members, and it incurs a daily fee of $1.00 for maintenance. The Large Camp, on the other hand, can hold between one and seven members and it incurs a daily maintenance fee of $2.00. Temporary Posses can only set up at a Small Camp, while Persistent can set up both types.

Camps can only be customized by the Posse Leader. You can choose between several different themes by talking to Cripps (your dedicated in-game Red Dead Online helper and assistant). The Standard Theme is free, while others can either be unlocked by ranking up or purchased. The Military Surplus Theme is unlocked at Rank 24, while the Traveling Opulence Theme is unlocked at Rank 38. The Hobo Life Theme is only available for purchase for $150. If you have purchased the Ultimate Edition, you can also use the Survivor Theme.

Posse Leaders can also choose to customize their Tent, Flag Color, Equipment, and Cripps’ outfit.

How To Join A Posse

If you are not planning to create a Posse, but still want to enjoy the game together with other players, you have the ability to join a random Posse. Just access the Pause Menu, then go to the Online Menu and then “Posse Up”. The game will allow you to join a random Posse automatically.

If you are a Posse Leader and want to invite friends to join yours, you can do that easily from the Posse Menu. Just press left on the directional Pad or press L on the keyboard to access this menu and then press on the option to invite your friends.

Ever since the original Red Dead Redemption was released back in 2010 and swiftly completed by Matt he has been eagerly anticipating another return to the Wild West. In Matt's totally non-biased opinion the story told in the sequel, Red Dead Redemption 2, is one of the best ever (at least as far as games go). And while some story DLC would be great, Matt isn't counting on it!
