While Rockstar Games makes fans wait for Grand Theft Auto 6 to release next year, it’s digging deep into its back catalog of titles, re-releasing fan-favorites on its subscription service, GTA+, and other modern platforms. It seems time for the most anticipated port has finally come, and Red Dead Redemption is heading to PC.
Around this time last year, Rockstar re-released Red Dead Redemption on the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4, even giving RDR on PS5 a hefty performance boost absent from other platforms. Now it appears that the 2010 action-adventure title is making its way to the master race.
As spotted by Wario64 on X, an updated PlayStation Store page confirms that the re-released 2023 console edition now comes with “PC-specific enhancements”, which is weird because Rockstar has never officially acknowledged this in any capacity. It looks like an intern pushed the wrong marketing copy to the wrong storefront. Oops!
According to the errant listing, the PC version of Red Dead Redemption comes with a suite of improvements such as increased resolution, multiple display support, improved frame rates, spatial surround sound, and… no multiplayer? This last one being an improvement might be debatable.
Despite the lack of an official confirmation, the PC release of Red Dead Redemption has long been a foregone conclusion. It was initially leaked inside the Rockstar Launcher in March, then the Epic Games Store in June, before the developers all but teased it last month after rearranging how it showcases its titles.
We would have thought Rockstar would announce Red Dead Redemption’s PC port on its 15th anniversary next year, but it appears it won’t be waiting for much longer to drop this info. It’s highly possible that we’ll see the official trailer dropped later this month at the Future Games Showcase – part of Gamescom – which will be co-hosted by a fan-favorite RDR2 voice actress.
With more and more older Rockstar titles making their way to other platforms, it’s highly possible that someone over at Rockstar is working on a re-release of Red Dead Revolver, even if only as a side project. If we’re lucky, Rockstar will compile it alongside Red Dead Redemption and Red Dead Redemption 2.
In other Red Dead news, the award-winning 2018 sequel remains one of the best-selling video games on the market, amassing a respectable number of sales every quarter despite the relative lack of marketing and updates from Rockstar.
