Red Dead Easter Egg found in official GTA 6 trailer

Wouldn't it be something if the GTA and Red Dead games shared the same universe?

Rockstar Games has made it clear that Grand Theft Auto 6 is the priority at the moment. However, while it has put the Red Dead franchise on the backburner for the better part of the two years, that doesn’t mean that it has completely forgotten about its “other” best-selling franchise. Case in point, a subtle Easter egg found in the official GTA 6 trailer.

The discovery, nestled within the high-octane scenes of the trailer, showcases Rockstar’s penchant for connecting their expansive gaming universes in not-so-obvious ways.

A keen-eyed Redditor, elnathh, was one of the first to identify this intriguing detail. Amid the bustling chaos of GTA 6’s Vice City, a sticker on a convenience store door features a striking resemblance to Everett Morgan, a minor character from Red Dead Online.

If Red Dead Redemption 2 is any indication, GTA 6 is going to look even more awesome at launch.

Morgan, known for his involvement in a train robbery and the subsequent death of one of the conductors, is depicted in a wanted poster in Red Dead Online. The sticker in the GTA 6 trailer captures his distinctive mustache silhouette and unkempt appearance. If nothing else, it bridges the gap between the two massive gaming worlds.

This Easter egg might seem like a negligible detail in the grand scheme of GTA 6’s vast and detailed world, but it represents Rockstar’s commitment to detail. This attention to the most minute of things lend itself well to the studio’s penchant for crating narratives that, sometimes, span across different titles, enhancing the overall gaming experience.

Furthermore, such Easter eggs provide a sense of continuity and lore that dedicated fans of the series appreciate and eagerly seek out.

Despite lagging in sales in comparison to GTA, the Red Dead franchise still ranks as one of the best-selling video game series ever.

Set over a century apart and in completely different locations, the inclusion of one of the characters from 1899 in a 2030s Florida setting raises questions about the connections in between the two franchises that Rockstar may be exploring. Although that’s probably looking too much into a small detail that Rockstar could very well remove in the final product. Then again, it would certainly be interesting to see what the in-game explanation is behind what appears to be a continuity error.

Ultimately, given Rockstar’s history of embedding hidden references in their games, it’s likely that GTA 6 will continue this tradition, potentially featuring more nods to Red Dead and other franchises. These Easter eggs serve not only as fun discoveries for fans but also as a tool for building a more immersive and interconnected universe.

Nevertheless, the Easter eggs add a layer of excitement for those who meticulously still dissect every frame of the trailer for more hidden clues.

GTA 6 is expected to contain even more Easter eggs when it's finally out.

With roughly two years separating the trailer’s official release and the game’s launch, fans are hoping that Rockstar will release something to tide audiences over. In particular, many are expecting Rockstar to finally release Red Dead Redemption 2 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X following the success of Red Dead Redemption’s re-release earlier this year.
