Rockstar Games has left the Red Dead community to fend for itself for a while now, dropping the occasional update to satisfy those who still haven’t left. But the best games have a way of attracting people even if the developers have since gone on to focus on different things.
According to Take-Two Interactive’s latest earnings call, Red Dead Redemption 2, one of the best games of the past two decades, saw a decent surge in sales in the past quarter.
The 2018 open-world western action game now sits on over 65 million copies after selling over 3 million copies over the past three months, making it one of the best-selling games of this year already.
In the same earnings call, Take-Two confirmed the Red Dead franchise has totaled more than 91 million copies in sales across three titles, leaving the company pleased with its performance.
Unless Nintendo repackages and resells Mario Kart 8 for its next console, the best-selling sequel is all but guaranteed to reach the No. 6 spot in a year and even challenge PUBG for the No. 5 spot all-time at 75 million copies sold.
All of this is to say that Red Dead Redemption 2 continues to draw in fans well after the developer put its online component, Red Dead Online, to pasture.
Expect the next earnings call to show a sizable bump in Red Dead Redemption 2’s sales figures following the expected release of Red Dead Redemption on PC. This unannounced port was leaked a few months back on the Epic Games Store.
Although Rockstar has continued to remain silent, an announcement is all but guaranteed before the year ends.
This is another good reason to tune in to the Future Games Show on August 21, which will be co-hosted by a familiar face.
Rockstar is not currently working on Red Dead Redemption 3, but many are lobbying for a live-action adaptation.
