Streamer Uses Two Cell Phones and a Selfie Stick to Put Himself Inside Red Dead Redemption 2

A Twitch streamer has put himself directly into Red Dead Redemption 2 without using any traditional VR equipment.

The streamer, known as Blurbs, managed to insert his actual body into the game world using nothing more than two smartphones taped together, a selfie stick, and some creative software wizardry, as revealed on X.

But that’s not the best part: he cobbled up together the entire project in just three days.

During his recent stream, viewers watched in disbelief as Blurbs appeared inside the saloon, walking around and interacting with NPCs as if he was actually there. He could push characters, stand behind the bar, and move through the game world while viewers saw him from a third-person perspective.

What makes this achievement even more remarkable is how simple the setup actually was. As we previously mentioned, he used a bunch of scraps, as the memes go, to pull off what many thought were impossible.

The secret? A combination of custom modifications to the game, a Unity application Blurbs built himself, and background removal technology similar to what streamers use for green screens. The two phones work together to track his movements while the selfie stick acts as a makeshift camera rig.

While surprising, this isn’t totally outside of Blurbs’ “expertise”. He has a reputation for thinking outside the box, or so to speak. He once created a system where his Twitch chat could control every NPC voice in both Skyrim and Red Dead Redemption 2. But walking inside the game himself takes things to an entirely new level.

According to Blurbs, this technique could theoretically work with any game that allows camera modifications through modding, so this could work in Grand Theft Auto V, and maybe even Grand Theft Auto 6, as well.

Blurbs admits that he wasn’t planning this project at all. In fact, he was actually working on a different Red Dead Redemption 2 video when the idea struck him. Like many of his projects, it started as a “what if” moment that spiraled into something groundbreaking.

As for what’s next after this, Blurbs has no idea yet. But the possibilities are endless, especially if you’re someone as creative as Blurbs.
