Hahaha!! Yeah you are right! I think those challenges are the dumbest thing in the game. The poker games are totally arranged in our favor, which makes those challenge much more difficult than they should.
I did find a way to go through Gambler #8 fast though. I described it here;

... I almost given up the idea to complete the game at 100% when I reached gambler #8...
It is not completely random. When I did the bug technique, or simply buying the cards in shops, at the very end I always got a new card for every 3 packs. The odds the get that last card would be 1 in 144, but it was kind of arranged and I finished the collection easily. I don't think going to the specific location of those missing cards is faster, but you are right that buying the packs is much faster.
Hello guys and girls!
I did a video detailing how to get all 144 cigarette cards fast and free (without buying them in a shop)!
The idea is to reproduce a glitch that makes cigarette packs reappear again and again.
Check it out here;
This is my very first Internet video!
My English ain't perfect, but I hope you'll find the video useful!
The technique is like this;
- Take a train to Riggs Station.
- Hijack the train when you arrive at the station.
- Escape quickly and hide (so you don't get a bounty - otherwise it won't be free). Come back to the train when the investigation is finished and the lawmen are gone.
- Pick the 2 cigarette packs in the cabinets of the first train car with a safe, and make sure to close the cabinets doors behind you.
- Go at the other end of the train and pick the cards in the same cabinets in the train car with a safe (close the cabinet doors).
- Come back to the first train car to discover the cigarette packs reappeared!! Do the same with the second train car.
- Repeat until you complete all sets!
