According to Take-Two Interactive’s latest earnings report, for the quarter ending June 2026, Red Dead Redemption 2 has now sold more than 87 million copies worldwide, up from 85 million just a few months earlier. As a whole, the Red Dead Redemption series is now sitting near 116 million units despite minimal to no fanfare and no new content to drive sales.
In total, the game has added around eight million copies to its tally in roughly seven months, nearly seven years after its award-winning launch. Most games are long forgotten by their seventh birthday. Red Dead Redemption 2 is instead the third best-selling title in the United States over the past several years, and it is doing it on pure reputation and word of mouth.

A game selling this consistently, this talked about and this beloved this long after release, is a proven, living money-maker. Yet Red Dead Redemption 2 still does not have a proper native current-generation version. On a PlayStation 5, you are still playing the older build through backwards compatibility, not a version built for the hardware. It has received no story expansion, ever, despite Grand Theft Auto V getting years of them, and its online mode, Red Dead Online, has been effectively abandoned, left without meaningful updates for years while Grand Theft Auto Online keeps getting new content.
None of this is to be sour about a genuine achievement. Eighty-seven million people bought something special, and they were right to do it. Red Dead Redemption 2 is a landmark release, and these sales are proof it found the audience it deserved, even if Rockstar continues to ignore it for multiple trips to Los Santos and now, Vice City. It is just worth being honest that the numbers make a quiet argument the fans have had every right to make for years.
Red Dead Redemption 2 should’ve gotten a much better follow-through than it got, and every new sales record is one more piece of evidence for that case.
Whether Rockstar ever gives it the current-generation version or the attention that success argues for is a separate question, and right now the honest answer is that the company seems content to let it sell itself while it looks the other way.
