Pump-Action Shotgun

The Pump-action Shotgun is a weapon that appears in Red Dead Redemption 2, Red Dead Redemption and their online multiplayer modes.

Pump Action

The Pump-action Shotgun belongs to the Shotgun weapon class and it can be set in the Shotgun weapon slot in Red Dead Redemption. It's a pump-action weapon which uses Shotgun ammo.

Red Dead Redemption 2

The Pump-action Shotgun is set to appear in Red Dead Redemption 2. While it is unknown how the weapon will feature in the single-player campaign, it's already been confirmed that it will be available in Red Dead Online. By purchasing the game's Ultimate Edition, the Pump-action Shotgun will be available for no additional charge by Gunsmiths, like the Volcanic Pistol and the Lancaster Varmint Rifle.

Red Dead Redemption

The Pump-action Shotgun is one of the four shotguns available in Red Dead Redemption, and the one that it's acquired last, as it can be picked up during one of the late-game missions, And The Truth Will Set You Free. The weapon can also be picked up by killing Edgar Ross in the Remember my Family mission. There are no other ways to obtain the weapon in Red Dead Redemption, as it is not available for sale at any time during the course of the game.

The Pump-action Shotgun packs some serious firepower, and its big ammunition capacity, six rounds, the highest for the shotgun weapon class, makes it a very useful weapon. The fact that it is acquired so late, however, makes it one of the less used weapons in the single-player campaign, as the equally powerful Semi-Auto Shotgun can be acquired much earlier.

The Pump-action Shotgun is also available in the Red Dead Redemption online mode. To obtain it, players need to reach rank 11. Once the rank has been achieved, they will find it in the inventory. There's also a golden variant of the weapon, which is acquired by completing the Pump Action Killer challenges. This variant only comes with an aesthetic change, as there's no difference in performance with the regular version.

The Pump-action Shotgun also appears in the Undead Nightmare DLC. It's relatively easy to find it, as it is obtained as a reward for clearing Torquemada of zombies. As the location can only be accessed late during the story, the Pump-action Shotgun may see little use for the remainder of the campaign.

  • The Pump-action Shotgun is based upon a real weapon, the Winchester Model 1897 shotgun. Also known as the Model 97 and M97, the weapon is an evolution of an older Winchester Model, called the Winchester Model 1893, which improved on the original weapon with a strengthened and longer frame, moveable cartridge guide, longer stock and changes to the action. The Winchester Model 1897 was eventually superseded by the Winchester Model 1912.
  • In Red Dead Redemption, the Pump-action Shotgun is one of the best shotguns and weapons, as it is capable of killing enemies with a single shot from up close. The weapon is just as useful in the multiplayer mode. It is also the final weapon that can be obtained in the single-player mode, as it is only available in two very late-game missions.

Matt Stone

Ever since the original Red Dead Redemption was released back in 2010 and swiftly completed by Matt he has been eagerly anticipating another return to the Wild West. In Matt's totally non-biased opinion the story told in the sequel, Red Dead Redemption 2, is one of the best ever (at least as far as games go). And while some story DLC would be great, Matt isn't counting on it! Matt is on Twitter (but not really active).
