Here is the DF video I referenced by the way. Shows the bad HDR and checkerboarding implementation on PS4 Pro.
-
The only way I know is by using the Share features on the PS4Pro unfortunately. I am sure there are some other ways to record the screen but they require additional hardware I think. The Digital Foundry videos do a good job of showing the bad checkerboarding for example so I'm sure they have that kind of hardware.
-
That's the dilemma. Taking a screenshot via share, eliminates some of the blur affect (resolution is still crap though) while taking a photo of the tv screen also does not give an accurate representation of the issue. This is something that the engineers need to see for themselves. The comparison between the different platforms is just way too different especially given that the PS4Pro does have the capability for excellent checkerboarding as we've seen with the other titles.

I've tweeted out to several tech news sites and rockstar support but havent heard anything at all. The frustrating this is the article claiming that rockstar is working on the fix is based on a single vague screenshot. This is still being spread as fact by other news outlets and comes up in Google first when searching for these issues: https://www.gamepur.com/news/30145-red-dead-redemption-2-blurry-graphics-issue-ps4-pro.html https://rockstarintel.com/rockstar-games-working-to-fix-red-dead-redemption-2-hdr-issues/ https://gamingbolt.com/red-dead-redemption-2-hdr-blurring-issues-being-worked-on-says-rockstar All of these outlets just cite that one screenshot in this thread. THERE HAS BEEN NO OFFICIAL ACKNOWLEDGEMENT FROM ROCKSTAR
-
I noticed that as well. Turning HDR definitely gets rid of the haze effect but the blurriness still remains unfortunately. I can't imagine how such a huge title like red dead 2 got HDR and checkerboarding so wrong.
-
Yep, I work tier 1 support (for a software company) which are the same type of folks that man the R* tickets and Twitter accounts and stuff this prolific always makes it to leadership (if not executives).
-
Someone, it might have been this thread or one of the reddit or other forums/article comments that i read bought a 4K HDR TV and the PS4Pro/Red Dead 2 bundle. He wasn’t too happy.
-
I’ve done my part. Ticket opened and tweeted at them. Now if we could get the red dead reddit to stop posting crappy memes and contact R*, we could get even more traction. I’m honestly not going to post the new DF video for fear of causing a downvote meltdown.
-
@Ross101 wow, where can we see the views on the thread?
-
Holy crap. So that's why 1080p looks completely different than the 4K in PS4Pro. God I hope they are compelled to patch this.
-
Thank you for the kind words. Yeah it's almost made me consider buying an XBOX ONEX just to get the whole experience. The HDR is definitely off on both platforms so hopefully this will get addressed as well. Meanwhile on twitter, looks like @rockstarsupport has their hands full with some of the other issues like dissapearing campmates and games getting stuck on the Loading screen.

Another article on the topic: https://gearnuke.com/red-dead-redemption-2-worst-4k-hdr-ps4-pro/

Yeah, I heard DF mention the anti-aliasing. Sometimes, I'd rather have jaggies than blurry shapes so the AA use in this game is way over the top. This just contributes to the overall blurriness of the game I bet.
-
Yep, and also push back if they mention "just downgrade the resolution to 1080p". This game is so amazing except for the 4K implementation on PS4Pro. I really hope they fix it.
-
Going through twitter, looks like several gaming news outlets (RockstarIntel) are spreading disinformation. We haven’t gotten any such acknowledgement from R* that they are aware of the issue and working in it. https://rockstarintel.com/rockstar-games-working-to-fix-red-dead-redemption-2-hdr-issues/

I I know the next photos are not of the same scene but hopefully illustrate the blur effect on this game. The one with Arthur showing, you can notice the excessive blurring on the weeds and plants that are literally a couple of feet away. This whole screenshot looks like a freaking Monet painting. the photo with Javier in it, I pressed the share button which pauses the game and removes the blur effect. You can tell the blur effect here is greatly reduced if not gone. this is on a 4K tv with everything configured correctly and plugged into the correct hdmi port. NOTE: I had to take this with my phone since the blur effects are removed/reduced when sharing a screenshot and wanted to demonstrate the blur.
-
So I’ve been playing the game tonight and in cutscenes and interiors, everything looks like you’re looking at it underwater due to the fuzziness blurriness. However, press the share button and you’ll see that it instantly turns much sharper and crisper. Gives me hope they may patch it
-
Just figured out that the PS4 Pro screenshots sharpen the blurriness up. The cutscenes have a ridiculous amount of blurriness but when you press Share on the controller, everything sharpens back up. Gives me hope they can fix it!
-
I was just playing and a cutscene played, the depth of field was super exaggerated making everything blurry. The game itself is blurry but the cutscene was even blurrier then the game play. Maybe it will be a simple fix of adjusting the DOF.
-
Yeah, that’s the HDR issues that are present in both the XBOX1X and PS4Pro versions of the game but unfortunate still no mention of the bad implementation of 4K on the PS4 Pro version of RDR2.
-
Apologies, I just realized it might just be the image host compressing the screenshot.
-
Blurralicious.
-
@porkovich thanks! So that makes at least 3 of us that have reported it to them. I also sent over a tweet to an IGN journalist to see if this thread can get some traction as were really the only place talking about it besides all the complaints on Twitter.
-
@porkovich your link just goes to my chat with rockstar support unfortunately. Did you take any screenshots?
