maintain shotgun in cabin

My husband is playing RDR2 on xbox 1  and he can't figure out how to maintain his shotgun in the cabin.  it said to use the X - but it grayed out.  can you help please?

Use gun oil or take it to the gun shop.

he has gun oil for the revolver - but can't get to it for the shot gun.

Are you sure the gun needs to be maintained? They only wear down when used.

You might be asking about the process of getting to the 'Maintain Gun' feature from the weapon wheel after losing the chance in the cabin mission.

You hold the LB to open the weapon wheel, move and hold your right stick towards the weapon of choice (cycle with RT if need be to find your weapon) then press down on the right stick. Your Arthur should then hold the gun to inspect it and options for looking at different angles of the gun, aiming the gun, cleaning the gun and gun stats will show up on the bottom left corner of your screen. 

just remember that it's best to have gun oil in your inventory at all times, because you can't clean your weapon without it.
