where do I find dig sites for the shovel

Eagle eye. Maps. 

Dig sites will show up like all other collectibles with the yellow markers while in eagle eye/ collector binoculars.

Dig sites that won't show up with eagle eye are the ones you need a metal detector to find.

What the other chap said, but if you need a start then buying some maps from Madam Nazar can give you a good idea of the sort of place they hide dig sites.  I'd also recommend getting the metal detector.  Those two in concert made me rich!!  (And ranked me up crazy fast)
