where have my cigarette cards gone?

I have completed most of the card sets but i have a problem with one of them (I think it's the fauna set). The compendium shows that I have found all 12, but in the satchel there are only 6 of them. So where did the other 6 go? I couldn't have sent them off because the set wasn't complete.

I wonder if this is related to the disappearance of all my varmint rifle ammo and all my improved tomahawks...
