American Red Squirrel

American Red Squirrels are extremely common in Red Dead Redemption 2, as they can be found in forested areas in West Elizabeth, New Hanover and Ambarino as well as all over New Austin and Lemoyne. A very good hunting spot is the big forested area to the north of Annesburg. Since squirrels are omnivorous, you can use either type of bait to flush one out. The bow armed with small game arrows is the only weapon capable of killing squirrels without damaging them too much. Perfect squirrel pelt can be used to craft a hat as well as other items, while stringy meat can be used in cooking. The carcass can be sold to any trader for a small amount of money.

American Robin

The American Robin is a very common bird that can be found in pretty much all regions of the map. It appears quite often in the Braithwaite Manor grounds, located to the south of the town of Rhodes. Robins are omnivorous, so you can use either a Predator or Herbivore bait to make one appear. Like all other small birds, American Robins are not resilient at all, so you must use the bow armed with small game arrows to get a perfect kill. Robin feathers can be used in crafting, while gamey bird meat can be used in cooking or eaten as is.

American Tree Sparrow

The American Tree Sparrow spawns in the same areas the Eurasian Tree Sparrow does, so search for it in the grasslands in West Elizabeth and new Hanover as well as in the Braithwaite Manor grounds. It's omnivorous, so you can use either the Predator or Herbivore bait to make one appear. The bow armed with small game arrows is the only weapon capable of getting a perfect kill. They drop sparrow feathers, which are used in crafting, and gamey bird meat, which is used in cooking.

American White Pelican

The American White Pelican only appears near bodies of water in West Elizabeth, New Hanover and Lemoyne. Very good hunting spots are the western and eastern shores of Flat Iron Lake, the southern part of Braithwaithe Manor and areas to the south of Annesburg, between the mining town and the Van Horn Trading Post. They are carnivores, so only Predator baits can lure them out. Due to their size, weapons other than the Varmint Rifle armed with 0.22 shots won't damage the carcass too much. They yield feathers and exotic bird meat, which are used in crafting and cooking.

Angus Bull

The Angus Bull is yet another animal that's not common to find at all, as it only appears in three select hunting spots: to the north of the first "E" in West Elizabeth , to the north of the "H" in New Hanover and to the east of Lagras and north of Saint Denis. The Angus Bull is a herbivore, so Herbivore Bait can be used to flush it out. As Angus Bulls are rather large, you must use a powerful weapon to get a perfect kill on them. Any scoped rifle is ok, but you can also use the bow armed with improved arrows if you are not afraid of getting a little bit closer to the enemy. Bull pelt, horn and prime beef can be used in crafting and cooking.

Angus Ox

The Angus Ox can only be found in ranches and farms in the West Elizabeth, New Hanover and Lemoyne regions. The best places to look for these oxen are right on the "H", "A" and "R" in New Hanover on the map as well as to the north and south of Rhodes in Lemoyne. Oxens are herbivores, so you must use a Herbivore bait to make one appear. Angus Oxen are very strong and resilient, so you need a reasonably powerful weapon like the bow armed with improved arrows and any scoped rifle to score a perfect kill. Perfect ox hide can be used to craft a pair of chaps, while the horn can be used in regular crafting. Prime beef joint can be used to cook some particularly good meals.

Australian Shepherd

The Australian Shepherd, like the American Fox Hound, is a rather common dog type which can be spotted in towns, cities and more commonly ranches. Like other dogs, it's omnivorous, so you can use either type of bait to make one appear.

Baja California Pronghorn Buck

The Baja California Pronghorn Buck is yet another animal native to New Austin, so you must complete the game and reach the Epilogue to study and skin it. It can be found in the Gaptooth Ridge area, which is located to the northwest of New Austin. The Baja California Pronghorn Buck is a herbivore, so only a Herbivore or Potent Herbivore bait can make one appear. These animals are not particularly strong, so a headshot made with either the bow armed with regular arrows or any repeater is more than enough to score a perfect kill. Perfect pronghorn fur can be used to craft a special hat while mature venison meat can be used in cooking.

Baja California Pronghorn Doe

Like the other Baja California animals, the Baja California Pronghorn Doe is native to New Austin, so it only appears in Gaptooth Ridge, located in the northwestern corner of the region. Baja California Pronghorn Does are herbivores, so use Herbivore bait to flush them out. Like other does and bucks, Baja California Pronghorn Does require a bow armed with regular arrows or any repeater to score a perfect kill. Perfect pronghorn fur can be used to craft a special hat, while mature venison meat is used in cooking.

Bald Eagle

The Bald Eagle is one of the most iconic birds of North America. It appears mostly in the mountains of Ambarino and New Hanover, specifically in the area between the "R" and "I" in Ambarino and in an area between the "V" and "E" in New Hanover on the map. They are carnivorous, so only Predator and Potent Predator bait can make them appear. Bald Eagles are bigger in size than most birds, so the Varmint Rifle armed with 0.22 shots is the only weapon capable of getting a perfect kill. They drop feathers and gamey bird meat, which can be used in crafting and cooking. Eagle Feathers are used, specifically, to craft Improved Throwing Knives.

Baltimore Oriole

The Baltimore Oriole appears in several different locations. The easiest to reach are the areas on the second "A" and "R" in Ambarino on the map, on the "N" and "E" in New Hanover and slightly to the north of Rhodes. Orioles are omnviores, so either the Predator or Herbivore bait can make one appear. Being very small birds, Baltimore Orioles can only be perfectly killed with the bow armed with small game arrows. Feathers can be used to craft hats as well as arrows, while the gamey bird meat can be used in cooking. The carcass can also be sold to any trader.

Band-tailed Pigeon

The Band-tailed Pigeon is among the rarest birds in Red Dead Redemption 2, and it can be found mostly in damp forests in the West Elizabeth region. A very good hunting spot is near the rocks north of Bard's Crossing, to the east of Strawberry. These birds are omnivorous, so either type of bait will work. Being very small birds, the bow armed with small game arrows is the only weapon capable of scoring a perfect kill. Pigeon feathers can be used to craft hat accessories as well as a few other items, while gamey bird meat can be used in cooking or eaten as it is. Band-tailed Pigeons also leave their carcass behind when they die, which can be sold to any trader.

Banded Gila Monster

The Banded Gila Monster is among the animals that you will be able to study and skin only after you have completed the main story, as it is native to the deserts found in the New Austin region. A very good hunting spot is located right to the east of Armadillo, located right above the "S" in New Austin on the map. These reptiles are carnivorous, so only a Predator bait can make one appear. As lizards are extremely small,  the Varmint Rifle armed with 0.22 shots is the only weapon capable of scoring a perfect kill on them. The perfect Gila Monster skin can be used to craft a special hat at any trapper, while the carcass and herptile meat can be sold to any trader and used in cooking respectively.

Berkshire Pig

The Berkshire Pig can be found quite often at farms and ranches in New Hanover as well as to the east of Saint Denis and right to the north of the "S" in New Austin on the map. Pigs are omnivorous, so you can use whichever bait you prefer to make one appear. Despite their size, pigs are not all that resilient, so you can get a perfect kill with a repeater or with the bow armed with regular arrows. They yield hide and pork meat which are used in crafting and cooking.

Big China Pig

The Big China Pig, like the Berkshire Pig, can be found in ranches and in towns across New Hanover. Pigs are omnivorous, so you can use either a Predator or Herbivore bait to make one appear. While they are big in size, Big China Pigs are not all that resilient so a good shot made with the bow armed with regular arrows is more than enough to score a perfect kill. Any repeater is also a good choice. They yield pig hide and tender pork meat once killed, which are used in crafting and cooking.

Black Rat

Black Rats are extremely common in the city of Saint Denis as well as in other populated areas. They are omnivores, so either Herbivore or Predator bait will make one appear. Being among the smallest animals in the game, you must use a weak weapon to score a perfect kill on rats, such as the bow armed with small game arrows. Perfect rat fur can be used to craft a hat while stringy meat can be used in cooking. The carcass can be sold to any trader for a small amount of money.

Black Squirrel

Squirrels are native to wooded areas, so the Black Squirrel appears all over New Hanover and West Elizabeth, like the other squirrel species of the game. Use a Predator or Herbivore bait to make one appear. Like for all small animals, the bow armed with small game arrows is the only weapon capable of getting a perfect kill. Perfect squirrel pelts are used to craft a special hat, while stringy meat is used in cooking.

Black-tailed Jackrabbit

The Black-tailed Jackrabbit is among the most common animals in Red Dead Redemption 2, and it can be found pretty much in all regions. It's a herbivore, so use Herbivore bait to make one appear. Being a very small rodent, the Varmint Rifle armed with 0.22 shots is the only weapon capable of a perfect kill. The perfect rabbit pelt can be used to craft a hat as well as other items, while game meat can be used in cooking or eaten as is.

Black-tailed Rattlesnake

The Black-tailed Rattlesnake is among the animals you will be able to study and skin only after completing the main story, as it's native to New Austin. It appears often near Armadillo and in the area between the "A" and "U" in Austin on the map. Snakes are carnivores, so use the Predator bait to make one appear. Like all the other snakes in Red Dead Redemption 2, they can be killed without causing too much damage with the bow using small game arrows. Perfect snake skin can be used to craft a saddle as well as other items, while stringy meat can be used in cooking.

Bloodhound

Bloodhounds, like most of the other dogs of the game, can be found roaming around in towns, ranches and cities. They are more common in Blackwater, but they are found just as easily in any other human settlement. In case you cannot find one, you can try using Predator or Herbivore Bait to make one appear, as they are omnivorous and will be attracted to either type of bait.

Blue and Yellow Macaw

The Blue and Yellow Macaws are among the animals that only appear in Guarma, and are not required to be studied and skinned for the Zoologist and Skin Deep Trophies. They appear all over the island and they are herbivores, so you can use a Herbivore bait to lure them out. As they don't drop any rare material, there's no reason to take them down with a perfect kill. If you really want to, however, you must use the Varmint Rifle. They yield parrot feathers and exotic bird meat, which are used in crafting and cooking.

Blue Jay

Blue Jays are quite common on the map and are among the first birds that can be hunted as soon as Chapter 2 begins, as they spawn frequently in the areas directly to the south of Valentine, as well as in the areas surrounding Rhodes and Annesburg. These birds are omnivores, so both the Predator and Herbivore bait is good to flush them out. Being a very small bird, the only way to get a perfect kill on a Blue Jay is with a bow armed with small game arrows. Feathers and gamey bird meat are used in crafting and cooking.

Bluetick Coonhound

Bluetick Coonhounds are slightly less common than other types of dog in the game, as they can only be seen in towns, cities and ranches in Lemoyne and New Hanover. Like other dogs, either type of bait is good to make one appear, as they are omnivorous.

Border Collie

Border Collies, like Bluetick Coonhounds, can only be found in ranches, towns and cities in Lemoyne and New Hanover. They appear more often in the Bayou Nwa area. In case you cannot find one, you can use Predator or Herbivore bait to make one appear.

Brown Pelican

Brown Pelicans appear in the same areas the American White Pelicans spawn, like the western and eastern shores of Flat Iron Lake and south of Braithwaithe Manor. They are carnivores, so only the Predator and Potent Predator bait can lure them out. Being not at all resilient, you must use the Varmint Rifle armed with 0.22 rounds to get a perfect kill on them. They drop feathers and exotic bird meat, which are used in crafting and cooking, respectively.

Brown Rat

The Brown Rat is yet another very common animal found in populated areas all accross the map. It appears more often in Armadillo, New Austin. It's also quite common to find in the cave behind the waterfall in the Elysian Pool, straight to the north of the "E" in Hanover on the map. Rats are omnivorous, so any type of bait is good to flush them out. Being extremely small, only the bow armed with small game arrows can score a perfect kill. perfect rat fur is used to craft a hat, while stringy meat can be used in cooking or eaten as is. The carcass can be sold to traders.

California Quail

The California Quail is a rather uncommon bird that can be found all over New Austin as well as in the areas to the northeast of Blackwater and right on the "N" in New Hanover on the map. This bird is omnivorous, so use whichever type of bait you prefer to make one appear. Being very small, the bow armed with small game arrows is the only weapon capable of getting a perfect kill. Quail feathers can be used to craft hat accessories as well as other items, while game meat can be used in cooking or eaten as is. The carcass can be sold to any trader.

California Valley Coyote

The California Valley Coyote is among the most common animals in Red Dead Redemption 2, as it appears all over the Lemoyne regions as well as in the eastern part of New Hanover. Coyotes are carnivores, so Predator or Potent Predator Bait must be used to flush them out. Coyotes are not particularly big or resilient, so the bow armed with regular arrows or any repeater is good enough to get a perfect kill. Once killed, a coyote will yield a pelt and stringy meat, which are used for crafting and cooking.

Californian Condor

The Californian Condor is among the rarest regular animals in Red Dead Redemption 2. It's also one of the final animals you will be able to study and skin, as it only appears in the areas surrounding Tumbleweed in New Austin. The Californian Condor is a carnivore, so you must use Predator Bait to flush it out. Being a rather large bird, the bow armed with the small game arrows is not enough to get a perfect kill. It's not a big animal either, so the only way to kill it perfectly is by using the Varmint Rifle armed with 0.22 ammo. Its feathers can be used to craft special arrows as well as select hats at trappers, while the gamey bird meat can be used in cooking.

Californian Horned Owl

The Californian Horned Owl can be found all over New Austin, but it also appears in other areas, such as to the west of Blackwater, the northern part of the island found to the east of Flat Iron Lake and to the north of the "N" in Ambarino on the map. Californian Horned Owls are carnivores, so use Predator bait to make them appear. As owls are small birds, only the Varmint Rifle armed with 0.22 shots is capable of getting a perfect kill. Owl feathers are used in crafting the homing tomahawk, while gamey bird meat can be used in cooking.

Canada Goose

The Canada Goose appears in the New Hanover and Lemoyne regions, as well as well as in the eastern parts of West Elizabeth. Among the best hunting spots is the area right on the "N" in Hanover on the map and the northwestern shore of Flat Iron Lake. The Canada Goose is a herbivore, so only a Herbivore bait can make one appear. Being small animals, only the Varmint Rifle armed with 0.22 shots can score a perfect kill on them. Once killed, they yield feathers, which can be used to craft a variety of items, including arrows, and plump bird meat, which is used in cooking.

Carolina Parakeet

The Carolina Parakeet can only be found in the Bayou Nwa as well as to the west of Saint Denis. Being a herbivore, only Herbivore bait can be used to make one appear. Carolina Parakeets are very small birds, so only the bow armed with small game arrows can score a perfect kill. They yield a carcass and exotic bird meat, which can be sold to traders and used in cooking respectively.
