A new Red Dead Redemption 2 bug might have been discovered by users of our forums, and considering how little information there is available about it, it may have slipped in with a recent patch. Rockstar has received several bug reports about it since, but it is unclear if a fix is being worked on.
Forum user Leanne Lawson recently started a thread about a Cleaver disappearing from the inventory and weapon wheel, as well as the compendium, even though they could not purchase it from the Fence, since the game still registered it as owned.
The poster acquired the Cleaver during Chapter 6, by picking it up during a mission instead of purchasing it. At the time, the weapon was entered into the compendium. Later, after having finished the story, the weapon was no longer present. They could not access it, nor was the entry present. However, it was marked at 1/1 when they tried buying it again from the Fence.
Other commenters indicated that this has happened on rare occasions to them or players they knew as well, however there wasn’t any info available about the bug online. Likely, it has happened so rarely, that players simply weren’t discussing it on any platform yet.
WAIVRaps, another user who encountered this issue with the Cleaver, has already contacted Rockstar Support about it. They only received a generic message indicating that the bug report was received and will be processed, but no further communication. It isn’t clear if Rockstar is currently working on a solution, or if it has only been added to their list of things that need doing.
A bit of research indicates that this bug is a very rare one and almost always occurs with the Cleaver, and only when it is taken from the house in Chapter 6, as opposed to being bought. Since currently this bug prevents 100% completion, since you’ll lose the weapon and be locked out from the option of buying it, the best thing to do is to not pick it up at all, and simply buy it in the first place.
We’ll update this story if Rockstar makes any relevant statements.
