  1. Stop shooting people in towns.

If you want to avoid high bounties and keep your money, avoid weapons in town completely. Especially against lawmen.

Surrender at every opportunity. Spend a couple nights in jail and you only pay 80% of the bounty!

Best advice I can give is don't treat this as a shooter. Trying to shoot your way out of situations will always result in high bounties and/or death, which also costs you.

Play it straight and you should accumulate cash pretty quick.

I'm the opposite, i have more fun playing single player than online.  I get too frustrated my old reflexes can't match the kids playing online 24/7 lol  makes it less fun for me.  Of course i'll have to check it all out when it goes online, gta5 was fun for a while.

I'm the first to admit how bad I am at video games. GTA was fun for a while then the turds invaded.

I'm like you, I want to enjoy online but with the atmosphere of online gaming the way it is, it won't be fun.

I wished there was a full proof way to differentiate the turds from the casual just have fun players...

"Learn to Play"?  Was "Git Gud" too trite?  No two players have identical synaptic potential or eye-hand coordination.  I'm middle-aged, and would get absolutely annihilated in an FPS when going up against a 15-year old kid doped out on ADHD medication.  Strategy and planning can only do so much.

And "noob"?  What is this, 2002?

Edit, I'd be willing to bet that more than half of the people who use "noob" can't even tell you the etymology without using the ol' Googlemachine to get an answer.

    Because they're "noobs"

They certainly couldn't tell you what etymology means. Let alone synaptic potential.

  4. Wonky things like this seem to happen with the legendary's.

I had a normal 3-star pronghorn carcass, harvested in the area of the legendary, on my horse. Did a manual save and re-load before getting back to Pearson with it. When I got back to donate it for my skull decoration, it was in my inventory as legendary!!! Was not x-ed out on the map.

I took him off my horse and put him back on, went back to Pearson and the legendary was still in my inventory, but so was the 3-star that it should have been! So now I have a legendary pronghorn in my inventory. Full carcass. But still available on the map.

I've heard talk that some folk have had similar things happen and were able to have two of the same legendary in their inventory.

My guess is you can track and harvest again.

I have been riding and have reached points where I hear voices and there be no one around.  I have also seen red dots of predators appear on my map and there be nothing there to shoot.

Snakes do that to me all the time.

Ride by and they pop up red, turn around quick and can't find anything. They're quick little bastards.

I think it's also fair to acknowledge that some players are simply overstating their experience though as a few of the explanations I've heard have clearly show they are takking a hamfisted approach to the game.

In my opinion this is exactly what's happening. And that is the perfect word to sum up the approach.

There's no question you can acquire a bounty for some pretty unfair reasons but there are plenty of ways to avoid it. If you do happen to generate a bounty, especially in a town, just surrender. Unless it's a shooting crime you will spend a few days incarcerated and then you're back on the streets. And I think you only have to pay 80% of your bounty!

I think the contingent that is adamant that the game is "broken" or "unplayable" are the GTA players that want reckless abandon and zero repercussions.

I really hope Rockstar doesn't cave and give in to these people either. I'll concede the bounty system needs a few tweaks but don't make it more GTA. Especially online.

  7. Varmint rifle is also perfect for small game.

Auto aim to full, legendary buck trinket, varmint rifle on horseback.

Just cruise around pressing and re-pressing that aim button and when it locks on (if you've studied the animal you'll see the stars), wherever the red dot goes....ya bang.

    Perfect pelts await.

The same holds true of using hair growth tonics.  I've been in Chapter 2 for over two weeks now, and no matter how much hair tonic I take, my beard is stuck at a solid 7.  I tried 6 tonics a day for a week in-game, with no further results (Dutch turned into a real A-hole when I did that, complaining about not "tithing the box" and all that jazz--really wanted to slit his belly over his insolence).

  9. I really wasn't trying to offend I promise. Now that I re-read your post, mine jumps to conclusions that weren't present, and makes me look like a turd. My apologies.

I know there are some salty people around here and I'm definitely not one of them.

Sometimes I get wrapped up in the whole mess of what's broken mechanics and what's made up.

You clearly were just reaching out for advice.

    My bad.

  10. Knife doesn't work?

Or you don't know how to use the knife?

Super odd that it would be the only thing that "doesn't work".

Occam's Razor folks. The simplest explanation is usually the right one. User error versus broken game play? User error wins every time.

No offense to the OP but some of this game's "problems" are fabricated.

  11. Once finding out the carrying capacity of the "Legend of the East" satchel I put everything else on hold. That's a game changer.

I only get about one and a half to two hours a night to play so I figured getting that three star panther pelt was going to be a grind. Much to my surprise, as I rode south of the burned out church, one of those bastards popped right up on me. I pulled out the bolt-action, activated dead-eye, and put one in his head just to avoid getting mauled. It was three star! Bittersweet because I was anticipating a drawn out hunt but I'll take it.

Harvesting the cougar more than made up for it though as I spent two IRL evenings trying for that turd. I kept seeing old withered one star cats. We got there though.

This is one of the most satisfying activities in the game for me so far.

You can also threaten the witness into forgetting what they saw. I had someone witness me holding up a store. They ran off as the bright red EYE icon on my radar. I ran after them. I caught up to them. I could kill them. Instead, I was able to interact with them and choose to threaten them. It took a bit longer to make them stop being a witness than killing them. So this seems situational in its usage.

    This is my method.

    I never kill witnesses.

Talk them out of it or hogtie them. When you cut them loose they'll relent.

  13. Wouldn't it be hilarious if Rockstar made attaining gold on certain missions physically impossible just to mess with you?

It's a very Rockstar thing to do.

You're hundred hours of game play is doing things for the sole purpose of getting them done.

This isn't the right game for you.

A couple of times i've played and I've had a fairly decent hand, like 2 pair or something. So I raise a moderate amount, then the opposition will call, but when cards are turned they have absolutely nothing, not even a low pair! Like he wasn't even trying to bluff or anything, he just called me and had nothing!

I'm noticing this a lot. The algorithm is garbage for NPC's.

  15. Once it's gone from the Lake Isabella area you won't find it again until you completely leave the area and sleep a few times or do a mission or two. I'd try going far enough south where the snow is gone.

When you come back she'll be there waiting. The trick to getting close is making sure she's calm. Once you're able to "lock on" to her with L2/LT don't let go. You'll get the "calm" option along with a spook bar at the bottom of the screen. Your controller will also vibrate more intensely when she's about to take off.

Three tips; Press the calm button every single time you're able to. When she starts to freak (controller vibrating), stop moving until you're able to calm her. Make sure your hands are empty, don't even think about trying to use your lasso.

Just keep inching closer and closer (no need to crouch) and before you know it, you'll be able to hop on and break that bitch.

Don't be upset if she jumps in the lake, just have to try again.
